1 up top can easily be more attacking than 2 up top, it's about not isolating the front man. In a 4-4-2 you generally have 2 attacking, in 4-2-3-1 you can easily have 4 attacking. Problem was getting nowhere close to whoever was playing up top, and swinging in crosses to strikers who are pretty awful in the air.

Think we only really need two players now - ideally I wanted a top CB alongside VVD but doesn't look like that's going to happen. 1 DM alongside Romeu, 1 AM/Winger who can create. Apart from that I'm pretty happy with the squad.

He can't get a game in the championship - and he's always been the case of he takes a while to get fit and picks up his touch with minutes, he would never get that here.

Do agree with this. That was our last summer of first XI quality signings, rather than investing in the future. However it is the model and maybe they feel that it costs too much to be signing top internationals to improve our first XI now, as our first XI id arguably better and easier to improve on the positions. We also had the impact of Europa league for the last few years, so we needed a thicker squad so I can see why we built the squad up a bit. Would be nice to bring in a few top players though who will walk straight into the side. Fees are just utter madness at the moment though, an average prem player is going for £25m this summer and a decent one for £35/40m+. If we can find value abroad then so be it, but when a prem side is interested the transfer fee seems to rocket straight away. Even if we don't sell anyone, we could still do with a DM, and a AM/Winger. If we get to a place where we have something along the lines of the below, we look in pretty decent shape...don't think we need huge surgery tbh unless we're going to let a few go. Where does it say Bertrand is likely to go? I'd say its not likely, and I'd say VVD is pretty unlikely unless we get huge money for him. When we say they're not going anywhere in this window, it normally means they go nowhere. I completely understand the clubs decision if someone offers us ca £70m
