I think the article is very, very good and actually this line is so utterly true (and also the reason many of us have fallen out of love with football)
-
Not going to be anything like ours but i have to say the new Monaco kit is very smart
-
Yup these small clubs are such an inspiration for us, i can't believe the press don't think the same!
-
I genuinely dislike Arsenal more than pretty much any club in london, their fans are unbelievably arrogant and plastic, nothing i'd like more than to see them lose this.
-
Do you really believe that? I mean you do realise that getting tickets for United away games is a nightmare right? They have a ballot system that makes ours look easy and 99% of their support is hardcore mancs (hence the songs about Gerrard).
-
Um... You're taking this pi.ss right? I mean everything you've just talked about is exactly why they're the best away support in the league, and then you go on to say we should sing Blue Moon!? Jesus we have some proper muppets in our support don't we.
-
Not sure why you're doing the stripes it isn't stripes the deal has been signed already, but hopefully the season after we'll have them back.
-
Only did six this season which was pretty poor by my standards. Kind of bored of premier league away days though as they cost so much and the atmosphere is normally sh.it from the home fans.
-
Rank Xerox is my choice but i'm afraid it's not going to be stripes or anything similar next season.

What is the weirdest own goal scored at a Saints game?
ericb replied to kwsaint's topic in The Saints
That was the first that jumped to my mind, followed by Tommy Widdrington scoring one off his arse in the mid 90s infront of the Milton road end. Can't remember who that was against but Tommy Widdrington and the black nipper who used to be a waiter in bournemouth were playing so that must narrow it down. -
What the hell is the matter with the Daily Mail ???
ericb replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
I love how everyone is missing the comment in the les reed video where the female journalist says that other clubs are briefing them on the bids for our players. If that's the case it's hardly the papers fault for printing it (as much as I hate the mail) they simply wouldn't be doing their jobs if they didn't. -
I'd imagine it's probably aimed less at the renewals to be honest and more at the fickle JCL/premier league fans who might buy a season ticket this season if we're doing well. I'd imagine the club probably factor in about 18-20k renewal rate no matter what as that's what we did in league one at our worst so represents the core of the support. To the club/merchandising people the more interesting and valuable ones will be the new customers, since they're higher value and represent an improvement in numbers, and i'd guess there's probably a target to improve to each season (unless there's a relegation when i guess the target would be around retaining). What i do wonder is how much the club prefer some of the older season ticket holders to drop out and be replaced by new ones as it makes far more financial sense to do that.

It won't be stripes, the next kit is the last of Cortese's legacy

On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy are you with saints at the moment?
ericb replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
On paper i'd give it an 8/10. We've held onto our best players, added one or two of real quality, played some fantastic football and matched our best ever Premier league finish and bettered the points total (though that's slightly hollow as football didn't begin in '92). But... In reality i'd say it's been a 6/7. The cup run pi.ssed me off, the atmosphere has been seriously damp and if i'm honest i've been bored for a good few months. Maybe our standards have changed, but i can't help but think if we'd gone for the for the cup seriously we'd be in the final now. And that or a semi would've made this season fantastic. -
Oi leave it out mush there's a few of us form Carntspellers on this site
-
Well not in our case but i believe the lot down the road are as good an example of any of what happens if you bury your head in the sand and say everything is going to be ok, don't question anything and believe that we can achieve more than is realistic. Questioning is still supporting, especially when you get your arses to games most weeks (home and away).

There's a hell of a lot in your post i agree with - and remember with a fond heart - but sadly i think the game is basically dead for our generation and what comes next is something closer to American sports, or (even worse) a sports/entertainment model that focuses as much on the drama and hype as it does on simple things like going with your mates, pride in your city, a good pi.ss up and a laugh. I'm in my mid 30s and agree with you completely about people leaving the game btw. When i started going in the mid 80s there was a large group of us that all queued to get into the milton together and now that number has been dwindled down to a handful. Obviously price rises play a part but many still do away games (for the **** up as much as anything) but i'd say the biggest thing is that we're just getting seriously disillusioned with the game now.

I've never understood why people need to think that if you like vic you can't like cork. Both are good players with different attributes and both have had periods this season that've made themselves undroppable (against each other). It's called competition and in my eyes it's a damn good thing that we have players who are good enough to cause this problem, and better still that we can pick and choose the right fit for a game.
-
There's an easy solution, try going to games that aren't against manchester united so you qualify for tickets. Happy to help.
-
Never heard this sung at as in any of the last 20 years of having a season ticket. Sounds like the usual lying to suit their agenda that the Sun do.
-
I'm sick to death of the Premier League and for the first time in almost 20 years i'm seriously considering whether or not to get a season ticket. That's not just the increase - which is relatively small across the whole season - but the whole "package". The hype. the shi.t atmospheres, the moved kick off times, the plastics and all the rest. I know it's not a popular way of thinking but i really miss the days of the lower leagues, they were just more fun than the premier league (and more affordable too).

Surely it's time to give this an airing again?

Arsenal want £10m Chambers - London Evening Standard
ericb replied to Lallana's Left Peg's topic in The Saints
So £10m for chambers, £25m for Lallana, £30m for shaw and how much for morgan? We're going to be super rich this summer!
