I don't believe the players play without desire. I thought they played with determination and great effort on Saturday. The problem is a complete loss of self confidence and that is something the last two managers have failed to inspire. I still believe a good manager who wins the players respect could make something good out of this squad.

I am one of the 341 who have said 'good decision' about Reed leaving but it is easy to get rid of people (remember Saddam Hussein and Gaddafi and rejoicing when they went) it's what happens next that makes the decision good or bad. Iraq and Libya are now in a helluva mess. What is going to happen next to us? Any clues?

I doubt there will be a Director of Football, I dont think any of the Board would have a clue who to appoint. There isnt a football person on it! Not even an English person, unless I've missed someone. I just want to think my team is run by football lovers willing to invest. Don't see any prospect of either.

Hoj is definitely captain material, I posted this a year ago when he wasn't even in the team but I believe Yoshi should get the job now with Hoj next in line, both good professionals, both no nonsense on the pitch, both goodspokesmen off the pitch even tho' English not their first language

Don't see any liklihood that Hughes will be sacked. There would be a huge contract payment to make and the owners are already in debt. We're lumbered with him, as we are with Forster. We used to be told top managers were lining up to come to us, no sign or rumour of anyone now

Yoshida is a sound professional and an international captain and has captained us in saner times. Why he is not selected is beyond me, first name on the sheet and captain for me

Genuine question: why do some posters think relegation will help sort things out? Income will be lower--both tv money and gate money. Players will remain on high cotracted premier league style pay and be even less likely to move. Value of the club will fall making owners less likely to sell. My opinion is relegation would be a complete disaster and probably be followed by another. Where is the gain?

Our recruitment policy gave us Elynoussie, Vestergaard, Armstrong. Good, I thought, and we made the signings early. Perfect, I thought. We are in for a good season. But where are these signings? The fact that they are on the bench suggests a terrible disharmony between manager and executive. That's the root there is no togetherness on the pitch because there is none 'higher up'

We need the sort of ambition and drive that NC brought, its been steady decline since he left but this site couldn't stand the 'dwarf' and wanted him out. Now we've got what we deserve.
-
His words gave offence to disabled and the FA sponsors threatened to withdraw support, also Prime Minister Tony Blair had to stick his nose in. Glen must be the first manager sacked for his theological or religious views. what happened to freedom of religion in his case? Accoprding to his own (bad) theology he is now being punished for somethinng he has done. Get well soon!
-
If Hughes is sacked he will get a massive pay day, and the owners may not be willing to pay out, so we are stuck. We've got him on a big contract just like we've got Forster for years on a big contract. Its called self harm.

The worrying thing is the management doesn't seem to rate them worth more than a bench spot, Ings excepted. We need players making a mark on the pitch not the bench
-
The ambition died with Macus and the loss of his executive. It is amazing that their foundations have survived as well as they have in that we are still in the top tier and they took over when we were penniless, pointless and in the third tier
-
You mean back to the McMenemy style? Don't think it would work these days. They would be exhausted and played out.Avoid old lags, we've enough of those on the management circuit and it doesn't work.

Top three players who made saints better since our PL return.
Dellman replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
Poch and NC are the two who made the difference because they drew great players since they left, slow decline -
In yesterday's match almost every throw in we had, even from attacking positions, was thrown backward. This puzzles me. It was the same with free kicks, almost all were played square or backward. There seems to be a fear of moving forward. Is that an example of modern coaching, or of no coaching?

The trouble on the pitch is because of the trouble off the pitch. With absentee owners who show no sign of caring and a chairman who also shows no sign of involvement and a manager who has known only failure at Ipswich, Man City and Stoke and a Director who has spunked a fortune on players not good enough for even the bench, what can we expect from those on the pitch? they must be demoralised, I know I am.
-
The malaise began when NC left, quickly followed by Poch. for a while their momentum kept running but there has been no leadership to replace NC off the pitch and Poch on the pitch. Now the whole enterprise has run down. I'm sorry NC was mocked and ridiculed by fans, he was the engine that drove things and that is what we lack now.
-
A lot of people didn't like NC but at least we knew who was in charge, what his plans were and that he had an ambitious vision. What have we got now?
-
Why should he leave Bournemouth? He has got the Club the way he wants it, why leave it? And certainly not to join our shambles with no investment likely.
-
Recruitment was our great strength in the days of NC and Mitchell but since they left, one expensive disappointment has followed another...but |I still have hopes for Danny and Mo and Gunn the goaly but the big CB can't get off the ground or turn round while Yoshi sits and watches.
-
Why do we leave the best CB we've got on the bench?
-
I don't want Dave M pensioned off, he is a genuine fellow who loves the Club and knows the game and the players well. He isn't out of date, he simploy remembers the days when there was loyalty to clubs and it wasn't all about money. Nice to have a voice from those days
-
Vestergaard and Hoedt are too slow on the turn, wasn't Yoshi the fastest Saints player last year?
-
Spot on. Does anyone know why he is overlooked? He is experienced, saw us through the crisis last season, had a great world cup, and hasn't been seen since
