WhitmonSaint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Just reading all the reports on various websites and watching it on SSN. Having seen Liebherr take over on Wednesday, secure player of year Kelvin Davis' contract immediately and sacking Wotte before the end of play today, do you really think he's the sort of person who would only now start thinking of replacements and drawing up a list of candidates? Don't forget pre-season friendlies have already started, we cannot afford to waste a week looking for a new manager. Liebherr was interested before Pinnacle gained exclusivity, that was a month ago - he would have had ideas of who he wanted back then and I would bet my life that he's already been in contact with his 'preferred choice' since then. It's funny how money changes things. When Pinnacle were leading the race to take over the club certain names were put forward by fans but I had my doubts as i'm sure most of you did. We're all guilty of thinking "they'd never come to us in League One" etc etc. But now we have a billionaire owner, every option i think of is now feasible. Anything is possible. Money changes everything, modern day football is a perfect example of this. I have a sneaky feeling we could hear tomorrow who our new manager will be. Us fans should get used to things getting done quickly and efficiently, because lets face it - you don't become a billionaire by ****ing about and making bad decisions. Since Liebherr took over i now believe anything is possible - the Saints are on their way back! I have this overwhelming feeling that the one and only Gordon Strachan is going to make a dramatic return to the Club - potentially as early as tomorrow - and i don't know about you, but that thought makes me feel extremely happy! benjii Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I quite hope WGS doesn't come back actually. I doubt he would be as good as last time. Mind you, he may well prove me wrong. I agree about Liebherr - looks like he means business!

Coastal Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 These guys are not going to mess arround. Looks to me like they are use to winning and that is something that has been mssng from our club for years. I really feel this is the start of something very big. Toadhall Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I work for a Swiss Company that employs plenty of Germans and believe me they do not shirk any decisions. Liebherr had made his mind up within hours of seeing the club thats hours not days or weeks. Do you really think he will act any other way when trying to put together a winning team/club? We may not be used to this but he certainly is.
sambosa75 Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Strachan or Keegan for me. If we have Strachan, there wouldnt be a fitter side in the league than us. He would have our team run the other into the ground. As for Keegan, he would have us outplay and outscore the opposition. Both are winning formulas. As for Coppell, did a good job at Reading but I think he will be holding out for a Premier League club once the sackings begin and as for Curbishley... no thanks. shurlock Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I thought in the negotiations the press or one of the parties said that the Swiss had or no knowledge of league 1 football let alone english football. possibly knowing that liebherr can seek the advice of tiss and watson who had been drawing up plans for their own bids has emboldened him. I think you're right. We will be able to attract somebody who last week was well out of our league (literally). Reminds me of when Blackburn Rovers employed Kenny Dalglish and Fulham Kevin Keegan. At the time people thought Walker and El Fayed were crazy to even think they could attract those managers but they did and the rest is history. Money talks and not just in terms of salary but spending power plays a big part of attracting top managers.

Bailey Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I'd absolutely love it if Strachan did come back to Saints, but I just can't see it. Would be a dream come true, but I won't get my hopes up. Part of me thinks we'll get a foreign manager who none of us have really heard of. Might have a good track record abroad, but maybe not the 'household name' that some are expecting. Whatever the powers that be decide, they need to make sure that they are 100% confident with their decision. The next managerial appointment is crucial for us. Choose the right man and we could potentially make a push for promotion. Make the wrong choice and we could find ourselves fighting to stay in the division. Third Division South Days Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I wonder who actually made the decision to sack MW? We have been told that ML takes a back seat and lets his management get on with it.

Vershinin Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Its fantastic that we are now run by an extremely wealthy man, but to be run by someone who is also professional, clinical, intelligent and also knows how to appeal to the fans, will be a very close second. In the long run that could prove to be just as vital and makes a change to the assorted selection of clowns and circus acts we-ve had over the last few years (except Leon). Smirking_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Strachan is an ideal choice, both for saints and for ML. Not only will he get us fighting fit and playing a decent way of football again (hopefully no more diamond). Not only this but with the new wave of euphoria about a new billionaire, then saving our player of the year from the brink. Most of us fans are in dreamland !! Can you imagine if he got one of the fans favourites back ?? We (and i mean the majority fan base) will be singing his name from the rooftops and i seriously believe big ticket sales.
