Quote from Weston Saint on other anti AL thread

"All Adam wants to do is play football. He is still not fully fit from his medial ligament tear on last day at Notts Forest. I had this from his family last night when I made contact.

Give the lad a break. It was his first season in first team football."

Stop the witch hunt please and give AL and the new team a chance....please! Don't always believe what you hear on Talksport!!

I think AL had a problem with Wotte and didn't fit in his set-up. I think a new manager will do him alot of good -and hopefully, we'll see more of his undoubted potential- though I still dont know what his best position is.

I didn't think Adz was too bad today.

He started very brightly and proved he can still beat people and turn on a sixpence.

He faded though, probably due to a hangover from niggling injury mentioned above.

I for one, would be gutted to see him go.

I honestly don't care, I genuinely think he's the most overrated player we've had at Saints certainly since relegation from the premiership

Think about it

He's a devoted attacking-midfielder who

creates nothing

can't shoot

can't even beat a man it seems

and really isn't actually that fast

He's a passenger in every game and the best he can usually come up with is laying it off to a full-back or another midfielder

I totally disagree. He has got what it takes.

Maybe my judgement is clouded with memories of WBA away?

See..that's better.

Basically, 1st Half upfront with Rasiak - GOOD

2nd Half, roaming - PONCY AND INEFFECTIVE.

Not his fault, as he wasn't the worst. But I think he won't last in L1 - simply, he will get kicked all over the park.

He (as a player) is probably too good for this league...even tho Bmth made him look fairly ordinary 2nd half.

Realistically he has a lot of work to do. His shooting is a weakness.

He was told by a senior coach last season that he had to be a lot more selective in his positional play.

The criticism was based on a lack of awareness whilst chasing around but not getting into areas that threatened.

If he gets the help needed and more importantly is prepared to listen he could become a decent player.

Sorry you and I must be watching different a game! Yes of course he's imconsistent - who wouldn't be playing within the shambles of last season! What he has in abundance is ability and potential as premiership clubs are aware. You've got it wrong - so to use your phrase think about it!

Hopefully Boyle is also going to make it. What is the point of knocking AL? The season hasn't started and the poor bloke's being criticized. What is wrong with our fans that they still want to moan......

Iim a bit ****ed, A/L needs to be a Saint. That guy will be emense. Stop the witch hunt

lol - I trust the hometown boys celebrated the takeover as well as we did down here yesterday.

Lallana is still very young in footballing terms. He will get better, if someone can name a global superstar who has been consistent every game in his first full year I'll be really impressed. Even Shearer got moaned at in his first season when he didn't get hat-tricks every week after his debut - what IS IT about Saints fans?!

Adam needs to stay, he isn't ready for a big club yet and will have more games this coming season where he makes a difference. Do his work and remain the "big time Charlie" in his home town instead of just another squad player trying to have a fun night out in Sunderland or Nottingham

Of course we could always replace him with another Steady Eddie L1 Paul Wotton.

I saw MLT play in a pre-season friendly at Victoria Park against Salisbury - he was garbage, missed three one on ones. Nobody expected him to be a world beater in his first two seasons, in fact we were horrified when he got near the first team that first full season.

How good was Kevin Phillips when he was young and with us? How many years did it take before we moaned about losing Matt Oakley?

How many threads have we had over the years moaning about players we should have kept?

He is young, it takes time. He would be a fool to leave now and we would be fools to let him leave, he has a spark, it wasn't enough for the CCC last year, but it will grow into an L1 flame

I do hope you meant "savage" !!! ;-). Incidently, I agree. I find it sad that some people feel that it is their express purpose in life to come on here and shred players who in reality they couldn't kiss the boots of in footballing ability. It is particularly sad when the players in question are still young and have been trying to play in a background of shambles, stress and uncertainty

Under the right manager, Lallana would shine in League One. He struggled towards the end of last season, especially under Wotte, where you got the impression he just didn't enjoy playing out wide right. Now Wotte has left, I believe Adam will stay at Saints and that can only be a good thing for us. He's got a lot of talent and will be one of our star players next season IMO.

I will now do another "mark my words" along the same lines as I said Mcgoldrick will go on to be one of the championships better strikers.......

If any of you think Lallana will not turn out to be good, then you are wrong. If he stays with us he will be awesome in this league. If not, he will turn out to be a regular in a decent championship side.

Based on his performances last season for us..if he was anywhere else in the CCC I don't think he would have been a regular...

For me with Lallana there is no END PRODUCT.

Whether its our inherent need to think we have the next MLT on the books or not I don't know, but I don't get why we get the love-in over a player, who only a few days ago was rumoured to be refusing the play for the club.

KJ was villified from the day he refused to play - now all of a sudden Lallana's golden boy - am I watching a different player to some of you?

I'd love someone to find some stats on his performances last season - goals, assists, completed passes etc..

Yesterday in the first half upfront with Rasiak he looked lively, in the 2nd half it was normal service resumed - lots of lovely flick ons that invariably ended up with Bournemouth players...no strength on or off the ball...no shooting whatsoever...

The fact that Paterson's goal was just about the only time that one of our players tried to score speaks volumes..also that only 3 players bothered to walk across and applaud our support yesterday again says it all.

And please don't give me the old guff about Friendlies not meaning anything...Wotton looked 110% ******ed with our performance yesterday - yes he's a basic player but he CARES.

Don't you get it! People are saying he has potential and that perhaps your opinion is the minority. Everyone has differences of opinion all I am saying is that the season hasn't started, AL is recovering from injury, and we are entering an exciting new era so please lay off AL at least until you have something to base your opinions on.......

We currently have too many academy players who have got used to losing. Unfortunately AL is one of them.

Where is Hoddle's Mystic Meg these days?

Last season was a major setback for the Academy lads, as many of them were thrown in the deep end and sank without trace. Bad management allround. RL should never have entrusted leadership to men who had only trained lower league sides, and thrown in " boys " to CCC games.

Historically, all our good youngsters came into; improving or successful sides and took time to fit in. Even Alan Shearer wasn't a first team regular until the second season after his epic Dell hat-trick v. Arsenal, and Channon before him had taken two years to become regular.

There arer half a dozen very promising Academy lads but they need support from experienced professionals who can lead / teach them by example.

(Nick Holmes / Osgood )-(Steve Williams / Alan Ball)-(Steve Moran / Keegan)

That way it works.

Hope our new manager can get the balance right first time.

I know he has been trying to work on his tracking back.He was caught napping away at Norwich where the player he was to mark was left to score and the following game v Swansea he let his player free to go on ummarked and score.

Reading this thread makes you think that the problem with the team is AL. He is one of a few of the youngsters who should be in the first team squad, but the core of the team needs to be players who spreads confidence which will help AL and others to grow and turn their potential into ability week in and week out.

The current squad has become used to losing and needs to have a backbone installed by a new manager who knows what he is doing in that respect, since it has been going on for years. (What do you think when you hear that a striker who hasn't scored for the last 14 is visiting? Or when bottom of the leagues, ten points behind the rest and no wins for five months will play here on Saturday?)

AL will be OK, and so will Simon Gillett who is the only one I haven't seen lose heart on any occasions. That boy will be great and we might even keep him because he isn't spectacular. I hope he grows a bit more.

Exactly, he is NOT good enough, he doesn't actually do anything.

CASH IN on him and get players who play positions effectively. Joseph Mills should be are best young player this year, and is a natural left back who plays as a left back.

Playing Lallana is like playing 10 men.

Care to explain how we are to cash in on a player who, in your opinion, is not good enough for a L1 side? Perhaps someone from the Blue Sq prem will pay us a sh1tload of dosh for him?

I like that even better than Dubaip's post. If he's crap i we won't get any money for him. If he's in demand perhaps some of the critics might like to weigh their credentials against football professionals who think he's worth spending money on.

Either way, can we all please wait for some performances from a fully fit player, please, before commenting more, whether positively or negatively...

Agreed. We just need to find a PL outfit with no scouting reports, and prepared to splash the cash on the back of the 50% on here who think he has talent.

The guy has talent, and potential. Whether he relaises that potential remains to be seen. We're now in a position to find out for ourselves rather than having to sell - a nice change I would say.

Why don't we all just see what effect the new manager is going to have on Adam's performances? He will be told that his future is in his feet and brain and to do what he is capable of doing and nothing less.

Also, let's not make knee-jerk judgments for a few weeks. They've nearly all done extraordinarily badly and it's a case of having to do much better -or else!

He's probably got the quickest feet in the league. By far the squad. And probably most of the CCC last year.

His end product is up for debate but as a footballer he has potential to be a good little playmaker.

In a keegan like team he'd probably be a world beater. In a strachan team he'd be like Svensson.

Its about finding the perfect role for a player like him.
