The Pro-Tony Adams.

... thread

If Tony Adams is on the shortlist, there must be valid reasons for this. I know there is a lot of keyboard-warrior emotion over this, but I'd be interested in what people think these reasons are. What would make you select him for manager?

SERIOUS BIT - READ THIS.... don't pollute this thread with anti-Adams sentiment, there are plenty of others for that. THIS THREAD IS FOR THE POSITIVES ONLY. It'll not add anything and just mark you out as a **** that can't read.

So what would make him attractive to Saints?

With all due respect Alain Perrin what sort of debate can you have on a subject if you're not suppose to point out the blindingly obvious?

Tony Adams has only failed as a manager, be it in the lower leagues or the premiership. Fact.

Now i don't believe Saints are seriously considering him because i don't believe the new management are that stupid.

I'm sorry if that doesn't fit in with your post requirements.

What do his qualities as a player have to do with his managerial quality? He has lower league experience and was rubbish, Wigley is English and young.

Yeah particularly those that have a pop at others when itheir crusade has nothing to do with them.

Then of course you've got those who happily throw about general abuse at their fellow supporters.

Then of course you've got those who start threads telling you what you can and can't post, and then get all upset because their restrictions somewhat stifle the debate.

go and have a look in the mirror fella.

There is no fact what so ever to suggest he is being considered for the managers post, it is pure speculation and drivel , and for those reasons I'm out

Funny, I've only seen one person on this thread make themselves look like a **** and it appears to be you.

A "discussion" thread where only those who agree with you can post? And there don't seem to be ANY of those anyway so it would have been a bloody short thread without the rest not in favour posting.

You should thank everyone who's posted for this not being the most shortlived thread in SF history?

Positives for Tony Adam's appointment?

His Mum will be pleased.

His Bank manager will be pleased.

It will make thousands of people in South East Hampshire happy, especially those with special needs, thus providing a valuable social service.

He won't have to travel far to work.

He might usurp Ian Dowie's position as the ugliest individual ever to be associated with our club.

As one of the best defenders during his time as a player, he might be able impart some of that knowledge to our defence as a coach. But then MLT was one of the best penalty takers in British football history, yet we remain crap penalty takers, one of the reasons why we are where we are.

He may be able also to impart to the young players (with the benefit of his own personal experience), the perils of drinking and the effect that it has on promising careers.

There we are Alain; is that enough positives for you?

So what would make him attractive to Saints?

He's a name. Pure and simple. He was a top player but has not as yet transferred his success as a player to his managerial career

I believe that he is destined to be a really good head coach under a manager as opposed to a manager in his own right. He seems to have had a fairly solid coaching career thus far.

Sadly the downside of his managerial career outweighs the upside, so whilst I see you want only positives on this thread, it's not easy to find that many.

I too don't care if he was at Pompey, except to say that whenever we have borrowed their staff, we tend to hit a downturn in fortunes and we've been as low as we can get I think.

It's a bit rich really, starting a thread where only one side of the debate can be discussed and then sulking when no one, not one single person, can find a positive in your entire point.

Your assumption that those of us who somehow can't find a positive in the possible appointment of Adams are somehow slightly thick, is lost in four of the most ludicrous "points" I've seen in terms of positive attributes.

1) Good leader for Arsenal and England.

So good players always make good managers then eh? Glad to have that nugget in print.

2) Lower League experience

Did exactly jack sh it at Wycombe Play 53 W12 L20 D21 and unless I'm mistaken got them relegated. Hardly the "experience" I'd be looking for. Funny how people can slag Pearson off when he saved us from relegation but consider Adams to be a possible choice when he took Wycombe down... Odd...

3) English (important to some)

Not important to anyone who has a brain. Best man for the job please, regardless of where he was born.

4) Young(ish)

Again, not improtant to anyone who has a brain. I'd prefer a manager who's worldly wise and experienced in the world of football. Age, like place of birth, is completely irrelevent...
