Prince Jazzbo Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 To be honest, I'm not taking too much notice of the results from the first 4 games. It appears that at no time during these games have we played our strongest group of players. I would expect on saturday, that the players that played well in the first 4 games will be in the starting line up. I will go. Also the prospect of an embarrassing defeat has never put me off before! Teddy Nutkins Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 I am inclined to agree, although it is important to hire the right manager, i can't help but feel uneasy about our current ability on the field to start dragging back those 10 points. I should have learnt to be patient, really, but unfortunately i'm not.

Scoobysaint Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 I can't wait for the game. I'll get to see what view my new season ticket will give me! Six weeks ago I'd have happily taken a drubbing from Ajax if it meant that we'd still have a club. Now we've got an owner who has the potential money to invest and ANY new manager that many fans were clamouring for. So what if we get beaten on Saturday... we are at the beginning of a very, very long and often uphill road.
the saint in winchester Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 yeah, it's a friendly, a bit of fun before the serious stuff starts. Even if we hired a quality manager and brought in half a dozen players before the weekend, we are going to get stuffed. I remember the pre-season against Parma a few years back. I'm expecting this to be similar - Ajax will play at half pace and still be miles better than us. Up to them how many goals they want to score. It's exhibition football. To be honest, our best team since Chris Nicholl was manager were outplayed by Steaua Bucharest in the UEFA Cup and Ajax are much better than them. I'd expect a 0-3 half-time score and a final score of 1-4 or 1-5 with our goal coming with Ajax's reserves on the pitch.

RonManager Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 At the end of the Burnley match I took some photos and left the ground uncertain as to what may transpire. As the horror of potential liquidation then started to unfold, I looked at those pics and wondered if I would ever be able to return to SMS or, worse, have a team to support anymore. I and many others have followed each of those 99 administration days, either on the radio, TV or internet, booing, cheering, arguing, worrying - together, yet apart from each other. Saturday will be the first chance for us all to physically set foot back in the home ground and celebrate our survival, thank our saviour and show our joy that we still have the Mighty Saints to follow down the years. It is so fitting that we are playing AJAX - a scoured, clean, germ-free new start!!! Southampton FC, Isn't it? You know, Marvellous.
Kingsland Red Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 The team on the pitch has not adequately represented the club for the last few years anyway, so I can cope with one more game of passionless inept drivel . Its about celebrating having a club to support, I was expecting a great atmosphere full of celebration because we've finally turned a corner, but mourons still seem intent of continuing this negative spin. who cares if we get hammered 23-0! We are a League 1 team playing a top Dutch team, so nobody is expecting anything other than a defeat. Shamrock Rovers are playing Real Madrid and I bet their fans aren't going to stay at home because they are going to get beaten. It is a time to celebrate a new beginning, just like we did with the new Stadium (when we lost 4-3 to Espanyol. I think we could have easily been 5-0 down in that game before they brought their defense off to give us a chance :-) )

A large walk up is expected and that takes into account not all season tickets showing up. Don't forget though that a few thousand would have been given away free to season ticket holders and, therefore, quite a few may not actually make it to the game (I got four tickets but now will only be using two). However, I'm really hoping for a big crowd - would be absolutely fantastic for a pre-season friendly !
