THOMAS - injured again !

Wayne Thomas is out of the QPR game with a back injury - AP only has 2 remaining 1st team centre halfs in Lancashire and Perry but looking to strengthen

Very worrying as back problems are difficult to solve :-(

Back problems or problems at the back?

Well it's not at all surprising is it?

I am really concerned that just a week away from the start of the 2009/10 campaign we have, realistically, just Perry and Lancashire at CB, neither should be in the first team on a permanent basis.Obviously we can't rely on Thomas playing even half of this season's 50 or so matches so the problem needs sorting out, today if possible.

I expect us o get tonked by QPR with that central pairing, our preseason has been disasterous ,apart from the Hearts win and Aberdeen showed us jut how bad Scottish football is mid week.We are at the start of a brand new era but teamwise it's same old same old.

Not good news that Thomas is injured so close to the start of the new season, especially when we've only got Perry and Lancashire as our other defensive options. I know Pardew is looking to sign a defender or two, and hopefully we'll have someone in before Millwall.

Have just posted on another thread that Zak Whitbread is worth looking at. He's been on the transfer list at his own request and could be tempted to leave our League One rivals to join Saints. Was set to move to Peterborough a week or so ago but the move fell through due to his wage demands, but I can't see this being a problem for us. We'd be able to match the terms he's on at Millwall at the very least, and we're pretty desperate for defensive reinforcements so he'd be a worthwhile signing.

Give him a job with the Council - they will pay him six months full and six months half sick pay for people with bad backs.

Someone who is meant to be an athlete shouldnt have a bad back, perhaps the real cause is that he has spent most of the time he has spent with us

slouched on a sofa playing with his xbow or nintendo!!

Or more importantly, very difficult to prove...

Another Pahars methinks, a good player who's spent too much time in the injury room and is almost afraid of first team football...

This thread should be linked to the ones panicking about not signing players. Wayne Thomas should be in every manager training course. Burley signed him in a panic because we needed a CB in a hurry - he paid way over the odds (I remember Burnley fans couldn't believe their luck at the time that someone had taken him away and paid a million quid plus) & offered him an unsustainable contract to get him to sign. He has never been better than middling okay (& never will be), he must be the highest paid CB in League One and he spends more time sick than fit.

So let Mr Pardew remember this lesson & get the right man at the right price in his own time

we have already missed out on Dailly and Alan Bennett - who already knowing the club would have been an assett. Jan Paul Saejs would be a sensible choice.

i had a strange dream last night where he had suddenly started playing for Everton but changed his shirt name to "Size"

I was gutted

Reckon the club should negotiate the end of his contract with him. He is Darren Powell Mk. II

Err no it's not. All that tells me is that Burley made a poor managerial decision. Or to put it another way, why does a manager HAVE to wait until the end of transfer deadline day to sign a player? Fact is if the resources are there and the manager is good at his job, it actually does not matter.

Time for administration. Time to put us all out of our misery.

If we go into any league match with Lancashire in the team, we will lose. A positive way to look at this is that if not playing today means that Thomas is fit for Millwall then I'm ok with that. Can't blame him for not being fit last season, his cruciate went FFS...

The point I was trying to make is that to get the right player on the right deal takes time. Everyone is screaming for instant signings, but if you rush it you pay too much and get someone like Glassman II

If I agree with you, can I have my happy clapper badge and be friends with you forever?;)

Yes you can, just dont start anymore 'we need players now' threads or you will be relegated again.

Thomas may be injured now (and all last season) but no need to panic.

We have our club back

In AP we Trust

Thank You ML I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ U

Is Harding therefore guaranteed to be s*it as we signed him after a few days?

And in the mean time, Saints fall further points behind everyone else and their goal difference starts to take on epic proportions with Lancashire doing his impersonation of the keystone cops trying to defend.

The squad needs reinforcing now, not in a months time or in January when the transfer window opens.

As for this cr*p about needing time to assess players, we got relegated last season 'unless that has escaped peoples minds', which proves those that we have weren't good enough, so it doesn't take a genius to work out that new ones are needed. Pardew is not an amateur, which means that two weeks is enough time for him to work out where it is deficent. After all he managed to work out that the squad needed a left back 24 hours after his first training session.
