Rasiak to start alongside Lambert - If he's still here

I'd go along with this and Perry for Lancashire.

I don't know what it is but I've got a feeling about Rasziak that AP is going to get the best out of him and that he's going to stay, in the short term at least.

Rasiak and Lambert up front and maybe put a new guy we get in this week (if he is a defender) in for Olly. No offence to Olly but he really needs to go out on loan and learn to be a defender. We need experience at the back, we did our whole "lets let the youngsters play" thing last year, worked great.

I was wondering why Gillet hasnt started for the last two games, does AP not rate him. I thought he was one of our best players last season.

I agree I thought he was excellent towards the end of the season. He seemed like the only player who actually cared and if he wasn't injured we might even be on +1 point in league 1 now.

Has he just come back from injury? I thought he had and maybe he's not fully fit. Or like you say Pardew might not rate him or prefers the more experienced Wotton!

To be fair he was pretty bad against Millwall when he came on. Some of his passing was awful.

Perry for Olly and Rasiak for Pato, as already mentioned. Not because Pato deserves to be dropped but Rasiak is the obvious choice if he is still here and fit.

I'd be a little cautious about bringing in Gillett for Wotton at this stage as the midfield would look a little weak with him and Schneedle in the middle - although saying that I rate Gillett much higher than Wotton... work that one out?

I think Gillet is not starting because if his height, AP has said he feels we're lacking in that department. That said I thought Wotton was poor last night and seemed to keep passing the ball behind our players, breaking our momentum.

I'd have Perry instead of Olli, as one dodgy central defender is enough for me and I'd continue to start with Patterson as he puts himself about and works defenders. Rasiak can come on later against a hopefully weary defence.

Jake Thompson looked good when he came on last night. Maybe he could come in, mover Lloydy inside and loose Wotton that way.

We shouldn't go down the route of 'let's try anything just to get rid of Wotton', because he's not that bad. He does a job, occasionally ****s up but most of the time is steady.

Thompson is nowhere near ready to start in League 1. He looked too weak and inexperienced against League 2 opposition last night, so we shouldn't be thinking of starting him in the first team. He needs a season long loan move imo.

We will not win many away games without any pace in the side, and we have none. Harding is the quickest player in our current starting line up.

We are playing too narrow, we have no width for an out ball, MS is constantly looking to play out wide but has no one there.

Agree the he is playing PW to support MS, but we need a replacement for PW who does not give the ball away so much.

As a team we are giving the ball away far too much, we would be murdered even playing in the Championship with this side.

That said with a couple of signings in the right areas we have the basis of a decent team.

We have to ditch Wotton. Everything he touches turns to sh*t.

Actually I thought he was very good last night, resisting the temptation to hit rubbish 45 yard passes into the crowd and instead concentrating on winning it and playing 5-10 yarders to people who can actually pass a ball.

Shame for Gillett who improved a lot last season, but Wotton is fine for League One and he'll get another chance.

Oh, but don't think I've forgotten Wotton's left footed slicer into the stand, he's still pants at football, but only when he has the ball.

Perry for Lancashire, I'd leave Rasiak on the bench, Paterson offers us the kind of workrate we need away, Rasiak can come on and score with his first touch every match, that'll suit him.

Did he ? I'm assuming you were in the Kingsland, cos all I saw from the Itchen/Chapel corner was him get one cross into the danger area when unmarked - I'm one of his biggest fans but I can't seriously argue that he's done anything to warrant inclusion in the first team at the moment. He does have pace though, and now at least he's got a cross into the box at St Mary's.

Same goes for Gobern for now.

I kinda agree but it goes against your username ;)

no offense but I've yet to see Thomson look decent against anyone. Perhaps the lower league opposition with tired legs flattered hinm somewhat?

with a bit of luck we will have made that CB signing 9Raynes perhaps) and he will come straight in. Agree regarding Paterson. He can run his socks off again and when he and defenders start to get tired Rasiak can come on.

I would give Holmes a chance on the left (for at least one half of the game). I really don't think that Harding and Lallana linked up that well last night, and that was more down to Lallana than it was Harding (he was *seriously* frustrated for the first twenty minutes of the game, at least). Lallana has the same problem as Surman did on the left - keeps wandering inside.

Wotton's physicality would be less crucial if the back five were really, really solid. They got there eventually last night, but there were some dodgy moments in the first third of the game when they seemed to expect to be reading each other's minds rather than talking (and listening) to each other. So if Lallana wants to be in the middle, play him in the middle; put Perry back at CB - or if we have another, bigger and scarier, option by Saturday, play him.

Rasiak and Lambert up front (that being said, I'm really looking forward to seeing a McLaggon/Lambert partnership).

Perry for Lancashire

Gillett for Wotton

Ras for Pato

Let me be the third person to back these changes !

I know that we were ok last night but remember it was only a poor Northampton side !

IMHO Lancs and Wotto do not have the quality and Pato is not yet at Razza's standard !

(Nb. this could all change if we get 1 or 2 signings this week as I expect!).

With regards to Simon Gillett, AP has obviously seen him in training & perhaps thinks he's lacking in something other than just height

Football is all about opinions & I've read as equally as many SWF posters say they don't rate Gillett, as people thinking he's class

FWIW I think that he is an ok player (not great!) but would be far more effective than Wotton alongside Schneiderlin because he doesn't sit deep all the time, he moves around !

PW and MS together both sit deep and consequently you lose forward momentum !

As MS can spray accurate long passes and Wotton cannot, therefore I would keep MS as the deep player with Gillet as a more advanced playmaker !

Is Holmes injured? When is he due back - he could be a massive player for us this season if he is fit!

He's fit enough to have been on the bench on Tuesday (and possibly last Saturday too, I can't remember). Not sure he's proven himself to the manager yet.

Was at Millwall but not No'ton. I'd have to say.

Gillett for Wotton

Rasiak for Pato

Perry for Lancashire

May be a lack of pace up front, but those two would scare the living crap out of most L1 defences.

Lack of pace everywhere. That's the reason i'd like to see Gobern plays, he's quick and not afraid to run at players. Maybe not a great idea for an away game against a decent side though.

lets have Lallana up front just off Lambert, then Perry for Lancashire.

i'd have Mcglaggon on the bench if he's fit and just give him a run out for say 20 mins but as has been said we need width, so Holmes playing would need Spiderman to put the ball about to exploit the width, leaves Wotton to play in the middle uless we can find a really mobile CB then maybe put Gillet in for Wotton.

to win first we need to scare the opposition, and stop them playing, then Spiderman can start to pass the ball about, into feet for Lallana or out wide to Holmes, but to do that we need a CASE/BALL/CMFG/ or even a Carlton Palmer in midfield to break it up

Well in hindsight, I wouldn't have started with the bottled Brit Real Ale at the beer festival today. Perhaps should have gone for the foreign not so strong lagers first, then moved onto the Weiss Bier before the Adnams.

Oh, sorry you meant the football, well. I wouldn't have let Gillett get a knock but for the past 30 something years Saints have had aplayer who we moan about......

Until he isn't there

So maybe Wotton does a job on the pitch, would have played Gillett but I heard he wasn't 100%

Whether or not Gobern plays, we aren't going to be attacking players with a whole lot of pace. I reckon would should set out our game plan so we don't need to until we can get some quick forwards and wide men in. Lots of neat passing, intelligent movement and strikers who can finish off even the faintest of half chances.
