Transfer Window Countdown

Saint Charlie

Recommended Posts

So the window closes on Tuesday at 5pm. what can we realistically expect?

OUT

Saga if anyone wants him and is willing to pay his wages

Schneiderlin if someone in Prem or CCC (or abroad) comes in with a very good offer.

Some young players (likes of White I reckon) out on loan to gain experience.

Probably no other departures unless someone makes a move for someone like Gillett who is obviously not favoured by Pardew.

Adam Lallana looks set to stay, unless of course a very good offer comes in for him, and he wants to leave.

It seems Liverpool's move to replace Xavi Alonso with Paul Wotton has broken down over the players wage demends so he looks to be staying at SMS.

IN

A pacy right winger, Gradel has been mentioned, although to date transfers in havent been rumoured until they happen so who knows. (As an aside, AFC Bournemouth's pacy right winger Liam Feeney looks a very good prospect and would be very cheap).

A striker regardless of whther Saga goes or not. If he does and we get one in, we could always get a loan player in if either new boy, Pato or Lambert gets injured. Tom Craddock has been mentioned, but price Luton are asking for is rumoured to be high. As already mentioned, there could be a suprise, or we might get nobody in and rely on loans.

The Radhi Jaidi rumour won't go away and he would be a great signing for any L1 team. He was at the Birmingham game, adding credence to this and of course as he is a free agent could be signed at any time, regardless of the transfer window.

Should be an interesting few days....

I think we will definitely sign another central defender or right back, whether on loan or otherwise.

It seems Pards has decided to forget about Lloyd James at right back. Thomas and Murty are fine but if Murty's injury is a long one we are left short at centre back again if anything happens to Trotters or Perry.

I would imagine a pacy player or two are on the shopping list, whether a winger or a central forward (hopefully both).

I'm confident we'll strengthen.

2 million!

Make them throw in a loanee and do the deal now and bring in jackson with the cash

Wow, well, Spiderman can go for £2m aslong as we get atleast a decent winger and a dcent striker, using that money. James and Hammond seem to be doing well in central midfield.

For that price, would want a hefty sell on clause as well as a player on loan for the season.

Would want it as a lump sum as well, not in monthly installments of games played.

2m is a decent price, but if being a bench player in the prem improves his U21 chances, then football has gone wrong. He is not good enough to play regularly for spurs yet - he'll be in a similar situation to Tarrabt.

nm. a decent player who came to the club at the wrong time, he hasn't got the talent around him to showcase what he's about.

I think Saga is changing his mind about stay here, i think hes looking like he wants to pla for us, or maybe hes just trying very hard to put himself in the shop window?

I would say he is just trying to be professional.

In a World Cup year he will not be wanting to play in League One. He just won't keep getting picked by Poland.

Assuming he stays he will only want to leave in Jan so IMO if we can find a suitable replacement it would be better for all parties if he leaves.

How about helping out Bournmouth's money problems by signing Brett Pitman & sending them a couple of kids on loan

Pitman seems to be a prolific scorer from the bench

Feeney (sp?) doesnt seem too bad either, on the loan side of things they are under a transfer embargo does that include loans?

Used to play cricket for Jersey with Brett a few years back when we were about 16. Not sure what he's like these days but back then he was an arrogant big-head who knew he was too good for his age group and everyone in the side loved him and wanted to be his mate. Used to really annoy me because he used to moan about the coach being clueless behind his back and everyone would laugh - arrogant ****. So yeah, hope we don't sign that guy!

2m not nearly enough for Morgan,I am sure he will go on to Arsenal in a couple of years for many millions, the idea was that Southampton would make the profit not Tottenham or Fulham,I think he has 3 years left on his contract and sadly our demise will lose us not only a very promising player but a financial killing as well. If he has to go, to play for his Country ,like Oliver Twist I want more!,

We would be making nearly £1m from a player that hasn't really done a whole lot.

Alan Pardew hopes to complete the Signing of former Birmingham Defender Jaidi before the Transfer Deadline.

Although a Free Agent and therefore able to sign for a Club at anytime, Pardew hopes to have his Summer Signings completed by the close of the Transfer Window so that he can pick from a complete squad.

Jaidi, who was at St Marys for the defeat to Birmingham in the Carling Cup, has been training with Southampton and hopes to have his move completed so that he can be called upon by Pardew in time for next weeks visit of Colchester.

Alan Pardew has also insisted that he would like to send a few of his youngsters out on loan to gain some experience.

Ollie Lancashire is thought to be close to agreeing a Loan deal to Bournemouth, with Gobbern thought to be heading to Aldershot for one month which could extend to January.

There has been talk that Pardew hopes to sign 3 players in the next two days, with Jaidi one of the 3.

Reports in the News today and also said to be inside paper tomorrow(Local)

(from 606 - but thought it would add some interesting discussion to this thread)

We MUST get AT least another Centre back and a pacy Striker.

We also need currently a winger and a right back, though a loan for the right back slot would be ok.

I cannot WAIT until Tuesday. My only day off next week, and I will be watching SSN from the early hours until after the window closes.

Arrogance can be an asset in sport if harnessed in the right way by a clever manager.

My hopeful window acquisitions:

In

Two from Rahdi Jaidi, Jonathan Fortune, Matt Lockwood and Sam Sodje (all free)

One from Carl Hoefkens or Moritz Volz (all free)

David Noble, Arron Davies AND Matt Holland (only Davies contracted)

Two from Simeon Jackson, David Connolly and Andy Bishop (Connolly on a free)

Out

Marek Saganowski -I think Saga's done his beans with us, so him, defo.

Paul Wotton - To free up wages,

Anthony Pulis - for obvious reasons!

Oliver Lancashire - so he can rebuild his career in a less pressurised situaiton

Tommy Forecast - so he can continue his 'good form' at Grimsby ;)

Lee Molyneaux - for just being depressingly bad.

Not only does the release or sale of these players free up our wage budget, but they also take with them their ingrained losing mentality which will benefit ourselves and eventually them when they transfer to a new club and all the typical optimism that normally goes with it.

So, out of all that lot, only Davies, Jackson and Bishop would command fees. How much would all of they cost though??? Any estimates?

I look at the free agent players I've mentioned above and just wonder why we can't offer them a good enough deal? :-(

No arguements over who you would like to see come in, but when I look at the outs I can't help but thinking..... who the Hell would take them off of our hands??????????? (Saga excepted, except for his wages!)

Oh, and in addition to the above, anyone else notice how all this deadwood was accumulated last season under Lowelife and his Dutch revolution? I am still certain that it was all part of the plan that 'if administration doesn't kill us having all these carp players on our books will'.

Polish article regarding Saganowski possibly being loaned out to the CCC even after the deadline - please excuse the clumsy translation .

http://www.eurosport.pl/pilka-nozna/transfers/2009/sagan-w-championship_sto2046856/story.shtml

Saganowski is in Southampton ... for the time being?

Marek Saganowski is still not sure of his future. Should remain in Southampton, But perhaps the beginning of September but the club will change. - There is a chance for the championship team - says Arthur eurosport.pl Murawski, the transfer agency of the Pole.

The British Isles is possible to change the team after the closure of the transfer window. Player can find a new club on loan.

- For now, Mark is a Southampton player and provides a ride to the next league match. The closure of the transfer window was only Monday and hard to expect that the last day he managed to find a new club - said Arthur Murawski, which deals with the transfer of the Pole. - There is a possibility that in September Saganowski be loaned to one of the club championship - adds Football Manager Kolakowski Management Agency.

as a Saints fan I've always found the closing of the transfer window to be a massive let down

when was the last time we we actually made a big signing - Keegan probably

so normally the transfer window closes and as Saints fans we are left sitting there thinking is that it

if we do sign someone last minute its always been a desperation signing

Kevin Phillps has to be the worst of these for £3.25 million as no one else wanted him and we couldn't sign anyone else - and he didn't want to be here. We drastically overpaid for him as well!

Euell and Stern John are up there as well - and pretty much for the same reasons

Hirst, Ripley, Beresford, McCann, Le Saux, Palmer to name but a few others!

all 3 are players we didn't really need or want!

lets hope this window closing brings someting different - I have a horrible feeling it wont though!

actually what was the last really good signing we made? Killer for £2 million in hindsight probably - but I don't think any of us were in raptures at the time

How many?

What would you consider to be a "big" signing for a L1 club on -7 points by the way? I can't see the European footballer of the year coming our way in the near future.

Hirst, Beresford and Palmer were all signed I believe by Dave Jones in 1997 and were a major factor is us finishing 12th after being favourites for relegation at the start of the season. I know from memory both Hirst and Palmer have been criticised on here though it is hard to understand why. Hirst scored some very good and important goals and despite his clumsy appearance Palmer actually did a good job in midfield with his non stop running style, certainly not the most graceful of players but not a reason to run him down. Beresford was also a decent left back. It's easy listing players who apparently were "let downs" but pointless when there is no justification for it.

And if wanted to be really argumentative I'd say Frank Worthington (1983) and Colin Clarke ( 1986) were at least 2 very good deadline signings post Keegan and I'm sure there are more.

Well clearly several of them, as I posted above, were needed and did well for us !
