Gemmel Posted 25 October, 2009 Share Posted 25 October, 2009 I can't help feeling the answer is "Not long" The last few games he has been a different class to anybody else on the pitch in terms of vision, ability and execution. Turning down Wolves is one thing, when one of the big clubs come calling, we will see how strong his resolve is. Not trying to put a downer on yesterday or how well things are going at the moment and love seeing the lad in a Saints shirt, but having grown up and watch us (In many cases need to) religuiously sell our best and most talented players, i'm hardened to the fact it will happen. It will be interesting to see if our new set up changes the way we do things when it comes to selling players.

Andy_Porter Posted 25 October, 2009 Share Posted 25 October, 2009 Won't be anywhere near as effective when the team isn't built around him. If he joined a top half CCC team and was told to just play as an orthodox winger he wouldn't be anywhere near as good as he has been for us lately. Would do well to stay with us and help us get promoted twice.

As you rightly say he may go, all players (except Matt) come and go for various reasons but, and it is a big but, things have changed here now, we will still sale but it will only be for our clubs benefit. Any and all profits will be put back into the squad to make us stronger. forever a red and white Posted 25 October, 2009 Share Posted 25 October, 2009 a couple of good games does not make u a prem player, its about playing well consistency, Lallana has struggled for this in the past, now he has found it and needs to keep it for the rest of the season and he will continue to develop as he is, learning the game week in, week out, for him to move now would be rather naieve

I think if he continues to play well up until January someone like Fulham, Everton or a Wigan might stick in a cheeky bid for him. They'd be wasting their time because we're not really a selling club anymore . Ultimately however the facts of football life tell us Adam Lallana will probably move on to a bigger club as his progress in the game will be faster than SFC's rise up the divisions , but it won't be before next summer and the buying club will have to pay - quite a lot I'd say . Wes Tender Posted 25 October, 2009 Share Posted 25 October, 2009 I think that it would be interesting to be able to ask his contemporary, his ex-team mate Surman whether a move would be a good thing. I have a sneaking suspicion that Surman might actually be beginning to rue his decision to leave, now that he is just warming the bench at Wolves, whereas his mate Lallana is feeling wanted and enhancing his reputation by adding some skill to an increasingly successful team. Brussels Saint Posted 25 October, 2009 Share Posted 25 October, 2009 I think he will certainly leave in the summer if we are not promoted, simple as that. There is no way he (or Morgan for that matter) would want to play another season in L1. If we go up however, maybe offer a new contract and demonstrate investment in the team, who knows he might be pursuaded that the project here can meet his ambition. The more I guess a few wins give us hope, the more I start to think getting promoted this year might be quite important in keeping and attracting the players we need. rick1976.4.38 Posted 25 October, 2009 Share Posted 25 October, 2009 he doesnt need to leave, but the big thing is we dont need to sell him,so unless someone comes in with silly money he is ours for this season and hopefuly more,
Tac-tics Posted 25 October, 2009 Share Posted 25 October, 2009 Anybody that thinks Ad's will be gone is utterly stupid. S-Clarke Posted 25 October, 2009 Share Posted 25 October, 2009 I think he'll be here for a long time, even if we don't go up this year (which is still a long shot btw) It's not up to players to decide they want to go, or other clubs to dictate anymore. He's our player and unless an unbelievable offer comes in - he will remain our player. Markus has not bought this club to see it's best players sold off after every remotely successful year. Adam has got a ticket to the premiership here - and he can play a key part in getting us there.

People cannot seem to grasp the idea that we are no longer a selling club, we have no debt whatsoever and ML and NC are looking to build this club up into a Premiership side again. Lallana will only go IF the deal is right for Southampton - which would mean a very large amount of money - and/or if, when his contract is up, he decides he wants to leave. St_Tel49 Posted 25 October, 2009 Share Posted 25 October, 2009 There is no evidence that Lallana wants to leave and even less that we want to sell him. For my money he is here for the season and possibly even next if we get promoted (unlikely I know). If he does leave next season it will be to a premiership club and not a CCC club. What would be the point of the latter move? - he would not be playing at that much higher a standard and probably for not much more wages.
Smirking_Saint Posted 25 October, 2009 Share Posted 25 October, 2009 I do worry a little as he is really standing out. The dons players couldn't handle him on saturday, he had a shot cleared off the line more or less and also had the keeper scrabbling with a superb left footed lobbed effort. There were times when you believed there was little to no way for him to escape with the ball and low and behold he did. He really impressed me, those that understand football could always see the boy had potential, i don't know what happened last season, he clearly was low on confidence and was not being played the right ways. Technique as a player is the hardest skill to master and more often then not you are born with it, and if not it is definately something you must learn at a young age or not at all. Ad's had it, you could see, his close control is fantastic. I hope he continues to star for us this year, he weakens the left flank we can all see that but for what he gives that is forgiveable (as long as harding remains solid that is). I believe he will be here after january, but if we fail a promotion push who knows ?? Could he play at a higher level ?? Yes, IMO.
