AndyNorthernSaints Posted 7 November, 2009 Share Posted 7 November, 2009 He is too thick for football IMO (and that's saying something). Most footballers are thick TBF. The fact he is playing regular football in a higher division proves he is not as rubbish as alot of people on here think.

for_heaven's_Saint Posted 8 November, 2009 Share Posted 8 November, 2009 From what I have seen of both players, I would much rather have Antonio than Dyer. He [Antonio] has just as much pace as dyer, but he is bigger and much stronger, plus he seems to have that final ball in, which Dyer did not always seem to have when I saw him. He's not the tallest bloke in the world so to score from a header meant it wasn't as simple as you make out plus he still has to put it away, many a tall striker miss simple headers. SET Posted 8 November, 2009 Author Share Posted 8 November, 2009 So you based your thoughts on 20 minutes of play, well done. yup and in those 20mins all he did was run and then give the ball to the opposition. so nothing much has changed since he left. Is that why he is playing for a championship club then rather than a league one club? Seems some managers think differently to you. He had some bad games for us but he also had some good games, obviously you missed the good ones.
benjii Posted 8 November, 2009 Share Posted 8 November, 2009 I think the point is that he was part of our touted, by Lowe etc, "golden generation" (my words not his) and ultimately he's just a bog standard Championship player. Same as Mills, same as Cranie, same as Best, same as Blackstock... etc.

ottery st mary Posted 8 November, 2009 Share Posted 8 November, 2009 I just saw Steve Basham score a brace for Luton yesterday...he's still got it! Steve is certainly a goalscorer. But at both Oxford and Exeter he was injured a great deal of the time and for every goal he scored he was not available or fully fit for the next 5-10 games. On his day as, proved in that cup tie he is a Gary Lineker/Jimmy Greaves. I always liked his play and attitude but worth the gamble...Maybe at Conference level the last 4-5 years.

Whitey Grandad Posted 8 November, 2009 Share Posted 8 November, 2009 wasn't he meant to be quicker? So they said, whoever 'they' were. I'm perfectly happy with our present situation and there are very few old boys from recent years that I would like to see back - apart from Walcott, that is, if he could stay fit. Rebel Posted 8 November, 2009 Share Posted 8 November, 2009 Cranie still in the England U21's isn't he. Given the time to develop slowly and fully - as well as the opportunity to play regularly in time I think Blackstock, Best, Mills and Cranie could all have been first team regulars for us in either of the top two divisions. Wes Tender Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 Dyer was a player who promised much but delivered little. He may have been rumoured to have even more pace than Walcott, but pace is nothing without the ability to do something great with the ball. Dyer is not fit to lace Walcott's boots. As already pointed out, fast as he was, he was lightweight too and Antonio is a far better prospect. Add in the factor of his criminal tendencies and who would want him at our club anyway? When we were skint, playing the kids in the first team, he and B-WP looked like players that we would feel sorry about losing, but a few short months later, you couldn't really make out a case of wanting to sign either of them if they were available and had never been here before. What we have now in a lower division is superior and Dyer wouldn't find his way into the team against either Antonio or Waigo.
chocco boxo Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 He always scores against the Skates so after BWP who robs them he is ok by me! I do wish Cranie stayed as his performance against Derby away in PO semi was awesome and I really thought he could be a future Captain for us. Blackstock will become a wealthy man by being a very average footballer as he will move from club to club over the years. I always wonder how rich Marcus Bent must be? Moves it seems every 6 months to good clubs for large fees!!
Chez Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 Dyer had that little spell when he scored aganst Watford and he looked like he might be the real deal, but overall he tended to run almost too quickly for his own good and end up runnign stright into full back instead of going round them. His off field antics were embaressing so I overall I wasn't too bothered about him leaving. Difficult to compare Antonio due to the lower standard of oponent, but everything I have seen so far suggests we have done very well thank you very much. Its a long time since a player has got me excited and this lad has done exactly that over the last month and long may it continue.
Whitey Grandad Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 The important question is... If you had to pay good money for him, would you buy him for the club?
saintsmike25 Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 Nathan Dyer is still a good player whose starting to mature at Swansea, whilst he might perhaps not be as good as Antonio I think his pace scares any defenders. He's scored goals for them and scoring a header in the derby for a player who stands at something like 5 foot 4 is a bit of an achievement! DT Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 Didn't Swansea pay about the same for Dyer that we paid for Lambert? Yes, and the players are all losing their wallets to Dyer on a pay-as-you-play basis.
madsent Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 Didn't Swansea pay about the same for Dyer that we paid for Lambert? No. Swansea paid £400k in 2 instalments for Dyer. Lambert cost us £1m up front plus potential extras if I remember correctly.
doggface Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 Dyer always flattered to deceive which is a shame as he had real potential. If he can rediscover his early promise then good luck to him. That said he seemed to have an attitude problem and I would much rather have the players we now have who show real commitment and battle rather than the lazy big head chav's like dyer & mcgoldrick. Whe you put it like that it's amazing how far we have come since the end of last season. We have Lambert and Connolly for less than we sold Dyer and McGoldrick, and their desire and hunger is quite refreshing.

Yate Saint Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 He was good for Burnley when on loan but never repeated that at Saints. It is shame but despite signing that contract he never wanted to be here. He is still young though and may become the player we thought he was going to be. Bearsy Posted 9 November, 2009 Share Posted 9 November, 2009 He does have excelllent close control to go with that pace. I think the lack of intelligence comment is about right, but with good coaching and instruction he could still make the prem.
