exit2 Posted 14 September, 2008 Author Share Posted 14 September, 2008 sorry but not good enough. Not strong enough, no leadership, no stability. Again we are giving debuts to lads in to a weakened team which doesnt work. We have now lost another player for a couple of months if his knee is as bad as it seems. We lost another to suspension. The squad is getting slimmer and slimmer. This means more chages to a sqaud that needs to settle and settle quick

Dicko Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 I know it's wrong to criticise these youngsters too heavily, but James was absolutely terrible and IMO Simon Gillett is too lightweight at this level

rudi-skacel Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 played well after going down to ten men so early, kept trying right to the end,but i don't feel to confident bout our chances in this league, but having said that if we win next week it paints a different picture again,so just got to take it as it comes. Topcat Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 We went into the season short of defensive players. So no surprise from me to find we are scraping the bottom of the League. Our only League win was against a demoralised Derby. We ship a lot of goals at set pieces, so why is our preparation so poor? Did we do no training for the past two weeks to get the defence right or were all our players away on internationals? No. Davis fails to command and organise his area today, well no surprise there he has failed to do that on may previous occasions.
Yate Saint Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Potential to be amazing. But there is something missing. Probably just plain experience. . But they will learn so much in the games coming up just a question can they act on it. I hope so. We didnt deserve to lose 4-1 really. The defence is shoddy as hell though. Katalinic Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 4-1 was very harsh, defence is a big issue across the whole back 4 and Gillet was poor again - lots of positives though and not as suicidal as some.

EdgarAllanPoe Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 The opening goal and sending off lost the game. However good the football is for the rest of the game it is already lost at that point. It's all powder-puff. Playing pretty football in front of teams without a cutting edge, and then trying to defend with kids out of position. Without outside investment this season ends only one way. ALWAYS_SFC Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Should have lost by many more.. Great goal by Lallana and Davis outstanding. If anyones says we can take positives from this game then they are mad. We lost 4-1 and it should have been 7 The choice of back four making a midfield player the most experienced player complelely riduculous...sorry Mr Portvliet you have no idea what it takes to compete in this league. alpine_saint Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 I caught my first game today via a free feed. I can understand now what some of you have been raving about. We can play some sexy, fast, precise, devastating football going forward (provided a decent forward is on the end of it). But : It is not persistent enough (it has to last more than 20mins, chaps), or consistent enough. We have to have a defence with which to stand fast in those parts of the game where play turns against us. It seems to me we still (once again, yet again, as we always do, every f**king season) have a defence that is simply not up to the job. To all those claiming on Thursday that we should not worry that Killer and Thomas are injured, that we have plenty of cover, and that we do have recognised full-backs, I have one word : Bolllocks. Seaford Saint Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 I didn't watch the game and I admit I got my hopes up at 1 - 1. When Jan joined and the huge exodus of players happened I said at the time that Lowe was taking an almighty gamble. A gamble that looks as if it is failing. However, 3 points next week and it won't be so cut and dried. I don't give a **** about today's result given a sending off but a few more of these sorts of results, just like the Blackpool last game out and the team's heads will collectively drop. When it does Mr Lowe we know who is responsible. Before some one asks the there is always an alternative to Jan.....someone who knows the English game who could have got some old pros and playing the English way. I wasn't there today but the Blackpool game? If ever there was a team who flattered to deceive it was us. Till next week, hide the sharp objects. InvictaSaint Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 5 league games, 4 defeats, Svensson probably crocked, Lancashire suspended for 3 games now....they are going to have to learn quickly in this league, but I am afraid I just can't see it happening quickly enough to save us. Nexstar Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Superb game from davis. Mcgoldrick was ****. Thought dyer did well. A reasonably good performance but losing, story of our season. Possible excuses as to why we lost: Away from home, very rich club, 10 men, holmes injured, partick agyemang. + inexperience, why perry didn't play is beyond me. Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Everything was poor. The team sheet should have included Perry in the defence and not included Lancashire, his inexperience cost us and although it was a harsh red, he shouldnt have dived in. Rudi should have been on in place of Gillet who for the second game running has looked poor and McG should have given way for John. Poor Lino work meant that when QPR were on the back foot and us playing well, they were gifted a goal which gave them the game. Im not at all confident about this season. Yet at 4-1 down having seen the player you thought would not cut it in the team score his second goal of the game against you, you still have a cheshire cat grin you smug tw*t Lowe. LGTL Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Shame that blind idiot of a linesman can't see an offside decision which is right infront of him, it wasn't even close. mprobert Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 You can't have an inexperienced manager as well as an inexperienced team. Yes you can, we've got both. I fear that we will be saying well played shame about the result a lot this season. Hope the kids dont get their confidence too shaken. On the positives - good game from Cork, the team kept playing positive football though down to 10 boys for 60 mins, Peckhart looks good, Kelvin got lots of practice, etc.... Time to support the boys and the manager, not get on their backs

Under Weststand Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Well I don't know how but somehow we have got to sort out some kind of defence, because they were a shambles today. And the least said about McGoldrick the better. There is a lot of good raw talent out there, but how long before their heads drop if we keep getting battered at the back like that. sun of spain Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 As the Sky chap said,he couldn't understand how Perry was left on the bench ? Our defence looked creaky at every QPR attack ,surely an experienced head (Perry) might have steadied things ? Dyer was dire, and McGoldrick didn't seem to have a clue !! Sadly the manager doesn't seem to have a plan B,when things are going wrong. A bad day at the office, and a hard season ahead ?
BotleySaint Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 Hopefully Jan will learn from this and put in our more experienced players next time. Perry and John must surely start on Wednesday. McGoldrick started the season well but has gone back to being crap. Dyer has never impressed me in his time at the club and can't cross a ball to save his life. Lallana and Davis are the only reasons we didn't lose 7 or 8-0 today. ulstersaint Posted 14 September, 2008 Share Posted 14 September, 2008 What a stupid team selection - 2 young debut centre backs! The first goal from a throw within 40 seconds showed what a terrible decision that was. On the far side of the goal there was one single Saints player! Perry (or Wotton)should have started at CB to provide some experience and leadership to organise the defence against set pieces. Davis was quite outstanding but the fact that he was MOM indicates what a dire defence we have. McGoldrick? Did he ever manage more than a gentle jog? If Jan is playing one up front it has to be a hard worker and a physical presence like Stern John - or Peckhart. The manager still has a lot to learn about this league.
