January Targets/Rumours!

SOTONS EAST SIDE

Elliott Ward, with Trotman going back to PNE (i think pard's has already accepted he's going)

A high profile striker, Simeon Jackson, Freddy Sears? (his loan at Palace ends in january afaik)

I'd like us to bring in another defensive midfielder - already said it on another thread, but i'd like that Jimmy Abdou guy at Millwall

Ambrose from Palace

Prem clubs including Hull sniffing around, and he wouldn't drop to League One.

Whitbread is a great shout though. I mentioned him in the summer and would still love to see him here.

Jackson from Gillingham would offer us something different up top, but we need a player similar to Lambert as back-up.

We can guess and we can hope but one of the good things about the new regime is that it all gets settled before we know a thing and that's how it should be. No one got a sniff about Lambert, or Hammond or Connolly and they're doing fine so let it stay that way.

Thats not true at all. I posted that connolly was training with us weeks before he signed. Also i remember it broke on here at the weekend about lambert and he signed on the Monday / Tuesday.

Connolly thing was true, much like the Jaidi one. But that's different, they were on trial/training with us for ages, harder to keep those situations under wraps.

But the Lambert one was on here in the morning and then announced in the afternoon of the same day from what I can remember. I can't remember who it was on here that was working at SMS at the time.

Whitbread came close to moving to Huddersfield in the loan window - the deal broke down over personal terms but is expected to be resumed in January.

..until we step in, if he refused a new contract at millwall i don't really see huddersfield as a step up, whereas we would be, far more potential

I'm not sure Whitbread has even been playing for Millwall? Someone can correct me if he has.

Fully fit, he is one of the best defenders outside the Prem and I believe he handed in a transfer request in the summer after turning down a new contract.

If he's a no-go, Elliot Ward would be very handy.

Whoever we go for, centre half is a priority.

He's been injured according to their os, should be back fit around now

Hopefully we can shift some of the deadwood this window. I'd like to see Gillett, Holmes, Molyneux, Forecast, Pulis and Saganowski all sold and a few of the youngsters loaned out.

Hopefully we can extend the loan deals for Mellis and Antonio. Other than that we need a new centre back and a striker in to cover Lambert.

That would be moi, it was at Staplewood.

If we're near Millwall come January with a very good chance of getting into the play offs - Yes I can see him coming to Southampton - Aslong as we make the bid.

If we're are 11 points off the play offs - I can't see him picking us over Huddersfield.

From what I remember in the summer he wanted Championship football, so it will come down to who is most likely to be there next season.

The Saints are one of a number of clubs who have been watching Striker Calvin Zola at Crewe Alex (according to my friend who supports 'the Alex'), but Derby are also interested and are currently favourite to sign in January.

Has scored 10 league 2 goals in 15 matches so far this season but wasn't that prolific prior to that. Scored 4 goals in 8 games for Congo. 25 yo, 6ft 2in tall. Could be a good prospect.

Let's start from the back. Certainly, if Trotman goes (which is likely, due to Perry & Thomas getting recent run-out's) we'll need to get someone to fill the gap there,

I'm unsure what i'd do with Mellis. I think he's best suited to our 4-5-1 formation, but only if Morgan or Hammond are injured. Certainly a new defensive midfielder would be on my shopping list.

What kind of striker is Pitman?

Simeon Jackson would get my vote. He's like the Defoe of league 1 from what i've seen.

I went to Bournemouth last Saturday and saw him score their only goal. I would say he was a poor man's Lambert. He knows where the goal is and makes the right sort of runs. He's obviously knocking in the goals in L2 even though he's playing in a lightweight team but I'm not sure that he could make the step up to L1. Might be worth a look if he weren't too expensive, but I'll leave those decisons to AP and his team of helpers.

Simeon Jackson would be just the other striker we need as Connolly can't play constantly, and it would mean we have three quality strikers.

A pacey Centre Back is required to help out Jaidi and I'm sure this will be our first signing. Perhaps another CB as cover but then again we do have young Aaron Martin although we haven't seen him at L1 level.

Very excited about this window. Can't wait.

I have helped in a few sessions in which Pitmans brother has been in, he knows Im a 'scummer' and allways brought the fact his brother is a saints fan and he'll be playing for us one day if I want free tickets.

Big time Charlie wannabe?

My Bournemouth supporting mates think exactly this, having said that he seems to be consistently finding the back of the net. IMO there are better options out there though, as has been mentioned, an out-of-favour Championship striker (not that I know any off the top of my head!)

Simon Cox at WBA hasn't settled as well as they'd have liked.

Cheeky loan-to-buy bid, perhaps?
