Thedelldays Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 in the ever increasing likelyhood that he will play in goal for pompey against us..? he was a facking hero for us...hopefully he will repay us for the only time he had a mare..which was a fratton... I just wont be able to boo him...

St.Patrik Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 He is a Saints legend and people should not booo at him - he got a chance of a last paycheck from the blue few and took it. We should show him respect.

saintmonkey1979 Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 If he plays I think we may have a chance of Winning TBH I think we have a chance anyway. Especially now the fire sale has started with 4 players looking likely to leave today, probably more too i'd imagine before the close of the transfer window. As for Niemi, he was a legend for us and should be treated as one, no matter who his current club is. We have a rivallry with Pompey, not Niemi. INFLUENCED.COM Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 Would like a show of appreciation for him when he came out(warmed up) but little else, got alot of repsect for him as a player and as a person, an all round good egg who must have been scrambled to go down the road. Colinjb Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 I would feel sad to see him involved with that car crash. He is the best keeper I have ever seen, he will always be a legend in my eye as a result. I would never boo a player who has given me the joy he has. saintmonkey1979 Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 would be James wouldn't it? They cant afford to play James as he is close to activating a contract extension clause and his move to Stoke is very much still on. It will be Niemi or Ashdown. keithd Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 Not many players who played for us and had their best years with us could get a good reception coming back playing for "them" but he'd be one for sure. Fabulous keeper, one of the best we've had, top 3 easily. Took me 10 games to work out what foot he kicked with he could clear so well with both! And his treble save against Arsenal...!!! And goal against Fulham...!! I could go on... As has been said, clap on, clap off, chuckle when he lets in 3!

norwaysaint Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 Haven't several great Saints players gone to Pompey towards the end of their career? so22saint Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 He shouldn't be booed. But if we create a great / hostile atmosphere he'll hopefully bottle it like he did at Nottarf Krap and let in anything that's on target. He'll have the U-15 academy in front of him hopefully. Seaford Saint Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 Niemi was a great servant to the club. I would be ashamed if he got booed.....sadly nothing surprises me with the idiots in Northam - not all Northam fans are idiots, I know, but a sizable proportion are. I remember Ricardo Fuller being booed etc. If he does play I hope he puts in a bad shift.

The club was irrelevant to him, he is a proffesional sportsman after all, not a fan. To tar him like that is also to tar Bobby Stokes and Mick Channon. This discussion may well prove to be irrelevant anyway.

once_bitterne Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 Skate mate has heard he is set to retire next week if they keep James and Ashdown in the window. Has he actually played a game of football since he came OUT of retirement? No wonder they are fooked, what a totally bizarre signing. They have been paying the wages of a 4th choice keeper they really didn't need and was probably physically unable to play in any case!

I'd really struggle to deal with seeing him in goal for pompey though. I'd struggle even more hearing a load of our fans booing him! Yep. My son and I flew with Flybe from Soton to Salzburg during the summer of 2004, and were shocked to be sharing the plane with the SFC squad going for some summer tpre-season training. Niemi (and Beattie) were really nice to my son, who idolised both at the time. I'll say again - anyone who boos Niemi if he plays is a brain-dead tw*t. a1ex2001 Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 Niemi is a saints legend and always will be apart from during the 90 minutes of this tie assuming he plays. I'd expect him to recieve a warm welcome and and even warmer departure if we win. During the game I expect him to get some stick nothing like as much as James would have got but he will take some especially if there is a penalty situation. Best goal keeper I've ever seen in a saints shirt so good I can even over look his signing for pompey!
