How many derby games

Was looking at statistics and in all competitions we have played them 35 times, not counting Knights testimonial. Saturday will be my 15th derby game, lets hope for a repeat of the 95/96 result. Just wondered if any of the more mature fans on here remember games of the 60's and what the rivalry was like then. I can remember my uncles going to watch Pompey play in the early 60's when Saints werent playing or were away just to watch football and the rivalry wasnt that intense it seemed quite normal then to go to FP.

I saw the games at Fratton Park on 1963 when we won 3-0. There was fighting as there was no segregation but in reality handbags. Saw the game next year when we won 5-2 and you could walk from one end to the other. No trouble I recall. In those days it was rivalry but not the bitterness that exists today.

Agreed stood with Mum, Nan and Grandad as a 10 year old, in 1964 in the Fratton End.

Only grief was direct at Paine regarding Roy Lunniss

Oh please count AK testimonial as that would make 10 Home and away

Best was the 1-0 Steve Moran

Funniest was 5-1 AK testimonial

Worse 1-4 enough said

No violence seen 3-0 FA Cup match at The Dell they had the stuffing knocked out of them on the pitch.

Worse violence, after the first game at their ****hole 0-1 when they destroyed the place or was it made improvements!!

Not a bad record so far.

27/04/1975 won 4-0 Second Division The Dell

06/04/1976 won 1-0 Second Division Fr*tt*n Park

20/01/1984 won 1-0 FA Cup Fr*tt*n Park

22/08/1987 drew 2–2 First Division Fr*tt*n Park

07/01/1996 won 3-0 FA Cup The Dell

02/12/2003 won 2-0 League Cup St Mary's

21/12/2003 won 3-0 Premier League St Mary's

29/01/2005 won 2-1 FA Cup St Mary's

The '76 match was my first away game. :D Managed to miss All 3 of the defeats (and 1 victory) in that time, so naturally in denial that they ever happened. Will be there a week on Saturday though, so here's to a continuation of the record! :)

If you have the full list of 35 games handy (inc results) - any chance of posting them here?

Would be nice to browse through - ta

My Dad was telling me a few weeks back that he would think nothing of going down to Fratton Park during the sixties to watch a game if Saints were away.

Anything to watch a game

Yep, my Granddad used to that, Saints one week, Pompey the next.

My fave derby so far has to AK's testimonial. Great atmosphere in the ground plus it was very interesting trying to get home!!!!

Thanks for posting the link - I didn't realise but I've been to all of them since 74. The 76 game was good 'cos it pretty much relegated them and we'd just reached the cup final. The 84 game is still my all time favourite and even 25 years on I still get a thrill seeing Steve Moran's goal.

I have to confess that when I was younger and couldn't afford to watch Saints away I also went to Nottarf Krap. I even sold programmes there 'cos it meant that I didn't have to pay to get in. Haven't been there for years now except when we played there.

This is either my first or second - i'm sure I was there at the game in 04/05 in the league but can't quite remember the score.

Either way, it's the first derby I will be able to remember.

If you can't remember going to a derby, you never fkin went.

Will be my 3rd. My 1st was the 2 nil win in the Carling Cup in 04/05 season & the 2nd was about 10 days later for the 3 nil win in the league. 100% record & no goals conceded, fingers crossed it is still that way come about half past 2 on Saturday 13th.

It had better be. I want to go out!

This'll be my first and I'm looking forward to it. I've booked my hotel for Friday and Saturday night because I'm fed up of driving down, watching the game, and driving home sober. I want to do it like you lot, pints before the game, during the game, and after the game! (And I'm dragging my missus with me :-))
