ladysaint Posted 3 February, 2010 Share Posted 3 February, 2010 Was looking at statistics and in all competitions we have played them 35 times, not counting Knights testimonial. Saturday will be my 15th derby game, lets hope for a repeat of the 95/96 result. Just wondered if any of the more mature fans on here remember games of the 60's and what the rivalry was like then. I can remember my uncles going to watch Pompey play in the early 60's when Saints werent playing or were away just to watch football and the rivalry wasnt that intense it seemed quite normal then to go to FP. I saw the games at Fratton Park on 1963 when we won 3-0. There was fighting as there was no segregation but in reality handbags. Saw the game next year when we won 5-2 and you could walk from one end to the other. No trouble I recall. In those days it was rivalry but not the bitterness that exists today. Oh please count AK testimonial as that would make 10 Home and away Best was the 1-0 Steve Moran Funniest was 5-1 AK testimonial Worse 1-4 enough said No violence seen 3-0 FA Cup match at The Dell they had the stuffing knocked out of them on the pitch. Worse violence, after the first game at their ****hole 0-1 when they destroyed the place or was it made improvements!!

knellster Posted 3 February, 2010 Share Posted 3 February, 2010 Thanks for posting the link - I didn't realise but I've been to all of them since 74. The 76 game was good 'cos it pretty much relegated them and we'd just reached the cup final. The 84 game is still my all time favourite and even 25 years on I still get a thrill seeing Steve Moran's goal. I have to confess that when I was younger and couldn't afford to watch Saints away I also went to Nottarf Krap. I even sold programmes there 'cos it meant that I didn't have to pay to get in. Haven't been there for years now except when we played there.
