Professor Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 Connolly negotiating new contract, and on, and on Schneiderlin to St Etienne - The Sun says (May); Saints fighting interest - The Echo says (1 June); and the OS? - not a lot. We've bought a new LB says the OS - or will do from 1 July. Great, but don't we have one of those already? What does the current LB think? Silence. We haven't got a RB, we've lost players from midfield. We have our targets says the OS; while telling everyone off for speculating. Having targets is great, but some of them are signing for other clubs. It will be July next week and some news about the team instead of the fixture list or the turf, would be very welcome. The Kraken Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 I for one welcome the fact that all of our transfer dealings are done behind closed doors and only announced when they are actually concluded. Yes, we need players. But I'm more than confident, despite the lack of any press releases to confirm it, that the club are doing all they need to do to get AP the players he wants. S-Clarke Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 We will sign players properly and professionally, like we have done all along. You'll hear the rumours a day before a certain player is set to sign, and it's not usually a player that has generally been speculated about. The club have done a great job of keeping transfers underwraps in the last 12 months.
Professor Posted 19 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 19 June, 2010 This is a good idea, a thread about summer transfers, rumours, etc, can this be made a sticky?........................................oh Dear Spud, in case it was too subtle, this is not about summer transfers, it is a suggestion that whilst other clubs are making announcements (Brighton, for example) and have settled deals, we appear to be moving slowly. No doubt signings will be made but will they be the best that could have been signed if the club had moved faster? By the way, Saint_Clark, do you think Nicky Bailey would NOT have been a target? Just because it appears we are moving slowly doesn't mean we are. The fact that we are hearing so little reassures me somewhat. I, like most fans, don't know the club's targets nor do we know the speed of any business. I'm pretty confident based on previous signings that we'll have good players in place for pre-season. Pilchards Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 Think of the players we attracted to the club with minus 10 points around our necks and the quality of signings we will sign as the title favorites to our name. Yep I'm not worried at all, just enjoy the England games .........Oh on 2nd thoughts, enjoy the world cup for now.

Why on Earth would the club comment on Schneiderlin if he is still playing for Saints? IF he signed for another club, I'm sure Saints would have the common decency to inform us. Why would you expect the OS to comment on a load of bullsh*t speculation printed in the press? As for signings, you have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. We could have signed pre-contract agreements with 2 RBs, a 20 goal a season England U21 striker and a huskie of a central midfielder for all you know. The club is just doing it by the book and not releasing pointless statements to the press regarding signings which haven't happened yet.
Dellman Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 We don't want many new players, we needed to get rid of a good few and we're doing it. Too many players not getting a game is bad for training and morale. Isn't 18 real first team contenders enough? And I reckon we've got 17..... VectisSaint Posted 19 June, 2010 Share Posted 19 June, 2010 I suspect the club are waiting for the World Cup to finish before announcing the new signings. AP may still be weighing up whether or not to sign Rooney, after last night's display he may be having second thoughts, and may have now dropped the idea of signing Lampard. Its more than a week until July, and then another 5 weeks to the start of the season. We basically have the first choice team from last season, minus Papa and Antonio, which is more than capable of starting the season with a bang. I would think in the next 2 weeks there will be some action on the transfer front, but if not I won't be too worried. I do hope though that DC will sign up, he is class at least for this level. John B Posted 20 June, 2010 Share Posted 20 June, 2010 If this Thread was started in three weeks time I think it would be interesting but I am sure transfer activity is happening and we will find out answers to questions raised in the next few weeks The only comment I would like to make is that Pardew said last season that by arriving late he missed out on a lot of free bargains. Well he does not seem to have picked up any bargains at the moment but this of course may change in the next couple of weeks
70's Mike Posted 20 June, 2010 Share Posted 20 June, 2010 Frankly we can move at snails pace if we pick up a Lambert and Fontetype player. AP knows we is under scrutiny and will make signings in time for when pre season training starts what may be more difficult is finding loanees like Antonio and Papa who gave us good options last season

SaintBobby Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 I'm very happy with where the club is at. I don't expect the OS to report Harding's reaction to us signing a new left back, nor to provide a minute-by-minute commentary on the ongoing negotiations with David Connolly. It is wrong to assume a correlation between the club's activity and how much "news" you hear. Everyone is saying we must sign a right-back, we need a right-back, oh my god we don't have a right-back. They are bang on the money. But I'd rather sign a top quality right back on, say, July 10th than just have an assertion that we're looking to do so on June 20th. Doctoroncall Posted 21 June, 2010 Share Posted 21 June, 2010 You are not allowed to voice such concerns on here until July 1st, it seems. But is not really a concern without knowing what's going on - why do we need to know the details before it happens? The club has a list of potential targets. Why get stressed out about player signings when we don't know: who the targets are whether they want to join the terms are agreeable or, any contingency plans If anything the signing of Dickson shows Saints are active in the transfer market. It seems unless we have a daily bulletin of what is going on some are not satisfied.

Professor Posted 23 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 23 June, 2010 Just popped in to see how the paint's doing. Nothing on the OS - sorry for the guys trying to post non-news every day. At least its good to know that the transfer market is actually open for business with the Echo reporting Surman's move to Norwich and I suppose its a help that he is one less player we can speculate about. But they do say that no news is good news, so this visit hasn't been entirely wasted. Still, I think I'll give it a miss for a week or so and see how things are next month. He should however be banned for a month mentioning the name JW in full and with the context of him returning to SMS. What a horrible, horrible thought. Doesn't he realise that many of us are still in therapy after those horrendous evenings spent sitting suicidally at our computers listening to Radio Hampshire explaining what happened to his passes/tackles etc.
