Colinjb Posted 24 July, 2010 Share Posted 24 July, 2010 Considering the league average of non users is 45% that's not bad! And in this current age of keeping things hushed then yes, the OS really is the only source of info. It is now doing it's job well, much better then having a rallying cry every other week. beatlesaint Posted 24 July, 2010 Share Posted 24 July, 2010 Are they taking the f*cking p!ss or something or are they just deluded? If you think about it those supporters who dont use this forum, or any other forum for that matter, are blissfully unaware of rumour, conspiracy theories and scare mongering so the only news they get is either from the media or from the club itself on the OS. In fact its like the old days before the internet and before fans forums when the summer was literally the CLOSE season and the only news you would hear would be new signings, the fixture list and ticket prices. Of course the forums etc almost demand instant news from the club and they aren't so hot at that.....but is any club ?
Spudders Posted 24 July, 2010 Share Posted 24 July, 2010 Don't disagree that they have been first with news recently, but if they think their communication generally with fans has been good they do seem to be a bit deluded.

Not talking about transfers and speculation, but the overall communication at the club now is worse than it's ever been in the 25 years or so I have been actively supporting Saints... so it's quite ironic they slip in a " we have worked hard over the last year to improve communication " , infact it's almost a darn right insult!!! Even alpine has more useful input than you! Is communication the worse it has ever been? Yes it is, I don't think anyone can doubt that, so I found the comment about communication being their main focus in the last year rather amusing. People were telling me that EVERYONE reads the OS so EVERYONE should have known about season tickets. Considering 30% of people ONLINE don't visit the OS, let alone the even higher percentage that don't use the internet for leisure/football... I think we can safely say that whoever thought that simply releasing details on the OS suffice were wrong.

MarkSFC Posted 24 July, 2010 Share Posted 24 July, 2010 The words "first port of call" are significant ones. The article is slightly ambiguous and doesn't actually say whether 70% of responadants to the survey use the OS at all OR whether 70% use the OS "as their first port if call" on matters relating to Saints. Clearly in relation to other clubs the website is hugely successful. Sure, the level of "detail" in a few of the pieces on the site could be better and more "why" sometimes but actually the amount of stuff coming out is good. Recently the has been at least one new "story" everyday.

I think we can safely say that whoever thought that simply releasing details on the OS suffice were wrong. I don't think cominication is worse than it has been. I think they could have done some things better but they have allot to learn and I expect things to improve in time. That survey doesn't say 30% don't use the OS. It says 30% don't use it as there 1st port of call. That could mean they 1st see saints news on sky sports or something and from that they visit the OS to find out more. I use this site more than the OS but if I want to know facts then I wait till it's on the OS as at that point I know something really has happened. Believing some of the tripe on here before the OS has communicated anything would be stupid. So the OS is the primary place to find saints related factual news. 30% of those surveyed don't wait pressing F5 all day obviously.

Torrent Of Abuse Posted 25 July, 2010 Share Posted 25 July, 2010 You know, I was just thinking back to when the SFC board was split into factions and this forum was used to voice rumours from each side because the official site was choked up with non-stories which we had already heard rumored weeks before whilst we knew full well that political undercurrents were ripping our club apart at the seams and I thought... yes, communication really is at its low point isn't it. I mean, I have to wait until the club is ready to tell me it's signed a player. Tragic.

I mean, I have to wait until the club is ready to tell me it's signed a player. Tragic. Err, it's not all about that. There has been no communication with regards to the removal of the installment plan. There has been no communication with regards to the removal of the TBT game. There has been no communication with regards to memberships, even though that said they were to be announced start of July. Cortese intentionally left everyone worrying/speculating about Pardews future when he could have easily nipped it in the bud. SFC are the only club I know of not to bother sending out Season Ticket Renewals. The club do not now respond to any questions with regards to the club, when they can be arsed to reply it's a fluffy fobbed off reply. Dress it up any way you like, the club now do not feel obliged to communicate with fans, it will bother some people, it won't bother others. It bothers me. Dave Benson Phillips Posted 25 July, 2010 Author Share Posted 25 July, 2010 can't remember this much communication about the footballing side of business pre-season before - training camp etc A diary... yes, nice touch. Makes sense though... repeat traffic on the website. On the subject of pre-season and communication, not telling supporters where the training base was going to be, even though it had been booked months in advance. Especially as many Saints fans have been asking them where it was as they wanted to book a holiday around it.

Crispypie Posted 25 July, 2010 Share Posted 25 July, 2010 Err, it's not all about that. There has been no communication with regards to the removal of the installment plan.. WHAT.... NO INSTALLMENT PLAN, WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN??? There has been no communication with regards to the removal of the TBT game.. WHat is the TBT game? There has been no communication with regards to memberships, even though that said they were to be announced start of July. . I think we can take that to mean there is currently no memebrship available, at the moment anyway Cortese intentionally left everyone worrying/speculating about Pardews future when he could have easily nipped it in the bud.. I have a feeling he doesnt feel the need to respond to every jab by the press, I dont blame him there. SFC are the only club I know of not to bother sending out Season Ticket Renewals.. How many clubs do you get reminders from, are you sure you are a saints supporter? The club do not now respond to any questions with regards to the club, when they can be arsed to reply it's a fluffy fobbed off reply.. I asked my boss if I could have a raise last week, he didnt reply either, I thought the manic laughing was uncalled for though! Dress it up any way you like, the club now do not feel obliged to communicate with fans, it will bother some people, it won't bother others. . True, but if those that it does bother accept that they are bothered and stop ranting on about it then perhaps we could get back to talking footbal. It bothers me. Really, I wouldnt have guessed! John Smith Posted 25 July, 2010 Share Posted 25 July, 2010 What am I making up Nick? The fact that we now have PROOF , 100% FACT that not everyone reads the OS? Oh well, dig in guys, looks like it's gonna be another marathon. Not long until the 7th comes around. Just to add to the debate though, 70% is great as DBP shouts his mouth off enough that the other 30% (which I think he knows personally), get to hear about it only moments later. Everyone's a winner! Does that end this discussion? Thought not..........
