Thedelldays Posted 14 August, 2010 Share Posted 14 August, 2010 already we are at that stage..and we are 6 points behind already too.. a nice win against orient is very much needed (as well as for obvious reasons).. dropping points here and we will be playing catch up (again)

Thing is the legaue is a marthon not a sprint as long as we are within the top four at christmas we will be in with a good shout of winning. Panda Posted 14 August, 2010 Share Posted 14 August, 2010 We may be SIX whole points behind already but at this stage last year we were 15 behind. Look on the bright side, we are only FOUR points away from the play-off's with a game in hand and we have FORTY-FIVE games left to make up the difference. Remember too that we still have to play most of those ahead of us twice so there is ample opportunity to close that gap. I would not worry too much yet if I were you. There is still all to play for, our destiny is in our own hands and it is a game of two halves so no need to be sick as a parrot just yet.

Oh FFS, this is a ferkin league FFS: every team plays 46 games and at the end of it they add up all the points and the top two go up, the next four play pitty pat to see who goes up. NickG Posted 14 August, 2010 Share Posted 14 August, 2010 after 3 games last season, Norwich winners with 95 points had 1 point. I know they changed their manager but shows there is loads to go. we got about 2 points per game last season - we would have 44 games left, so could still be looking at 88 points - more than leeds went up with. will increase pressure but we would not be adrift. brmbrm Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 if its must win - what happens if we don't? Must is a 100% woird, which is what TDD just doesn't understand. alpine_saint Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 I'm sure I was told last season's poor start was the main reason we did not reach the play-offs. And being 10 points behind everyone else at the start of the 46 games. Personally, I think TDD has a bit of a point. If we dont pull our socks up in the next couple of games, we will be as far behind as last season with less games to play to pull it back in. MarkSFC Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 Thank god someone has highlighted the need for a win because I know for a fact that the attitude in the camp is one of "we don't really care whether we win or not" because we get paid whatever. The thrill of winning a game in front of your own fans is no different to losing so why bother to go out to win thru may as well take the easy option. They have a target of winning the league but losing at home to a lower level team won't affect this so whatever!! TDD for team motivator please......the professional sportsmen need him now.... Saint_lambden Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 It's not a "must win" . Those games come near the end of the season if we are playing for promotion etc.. We should win , a nice rest and the team back to full strength will hopefully see us win by 2 or 3 goals if not more. Bit early for a prediction I know but I'm going for 3-0 : Lambert x 2 and Connolly off the bench.

NickG Posted 15 August, 2010 Share Posted 15 August, 2010 (edited) and if they gave us those 10 points back..we would have finished something like 5th....5th this season is not good enough..sorry Exactly my point. Put those points deducted back on to last season's total and we would, indeed, have finished 5th and would have been going into the play offs (as the form team and maybe favourites!). We would have only been 3 points, and with better goal difference, behind Leeds. BUT that was waiting until the 8th game for the first win - totally proves that even if we have to wait until the 3rd game for a win rather than Orient, automatic promotion is clearly achievable. As we would only have been one win short last season - maybe, if we haven't won by then, our 7th game is the must win one! Will be surprised and disappointed if we don't win though, but to say it is a must win is just silly. Edited 15 August, 2010 by NickG
