Saints 2 Oldham 1 Post Match Reaction

Chamberlain was amazing. Sounded like a great goal, and then beat loads of players and hit the post.

Great we got the three points- such a shame Chamberlian didn't get that one at the end though.

In Nigel Adkins we trust

(well I do)

doubt if we'll do that, logical although it would seem. Think we have team sheets with his name already printed on them.

I can't believe that reason. Anyway if Lambert is jaded or injured wouldn't he prefer to be out of the picture for a bit ion attempt to refresh his batteries and get back to top notch ?

Do we rest Lambert as well, this could be what he needs.

Could well be a good thing for him, he's been out of sorts all season, & may do Punch well also. Barnard has seemingly been on good form & Chamberlain is certainly putting pressure on the manager to start, may well still be better coming on as an impact sub though? But will soon deserve a chance to impress.

Think his goals ratio (at least last season) keeps Rickie's name on the team sheet.

However, I wonder if any pressure is being brought to bear to keep Guly's name on there as well?

Course, he's doing okay at the present and will hopefully get better, but might be interesting if he loses form all of a sudden...

Well I rate Guly but I'd rather see him paired with Barnard to be honest. Better movement creating time and space which to me is the essence of football.

NB like the king crimson avatar, saw them live at the Marquee in soho in their early days.

Kelvins save was really first class. The world slowed down!! 5 mins extra time.... where did that come from?

Sore throat now from shouting at their number 17. Can't believe he put up a challenge for the drop ball incident.

Chamberlain was fantastic as was Lallana. But Chaplow looked way out I'd his depth in this league. Many times he was stood ball watching.

Good crowd and atmosphere.. not sure what the fighting in the Itchen was all about.

Good result, shame we need 8 teams to lose to get any where in the table!

A more possitive way of looking at it is we only need to win 1 more game in the next 33, compared relative to the teams above us. Very doable, especially given that those teams include teams like Oldham, Brizzle and Exeter.

Also the table is very badly skewd. Saints are 14th, but we're as close to the team just below us as we are to the team in 5th (2 points). We are at the arse end of a VERY tight group.

Good win. It was pretty ugly at times but that's exactly what we need to get out of this league.

Credit to Oldham defensively, they never stopped chasing and closing down. Going forward they were shocking, just hoof after hoof. I'd say Dickov is building a team to mirror his own playing style, which is actually pretty effective in this league.

As for saints, shocking first half but we improved in the second as Oldham tired. Chambo took his goal well and was the width of the post away from scoring the goal of the season with a magical run and shot.

Fonte easily motm, closely followed by butterfield and Morgan. 3 home wins in a row now, can't argue with that

That was a great win, we weren't at our best today and i thought Oldham made a real game of it and were setup really well.

The first half was pretty forgettable bar the first 15mins and the last min, we struggled to get any pressure built because Oldham were pressuring us at every opportunity and we kept giving away silly passes when we should have just kept the ball sensibly.

2nd half was a bit better, but i didn't feel we would win it until a change was made as we lacked any real spark. OxO gave us that, their full back didn't have a chance of catching him and the way he glided past a couple of their defenders for his goal was brilliant. He's a proper talent.

Good performances from Fonte today and Seaborne (who has been faultless under Adkins) Butterfield was excellent too i felt, Richardson has a real fight on to get into this team...and also Davis, a great save at the end.

That's the sort of 3 points we've been crying out for, didn't play well, came from behind and won. That's that hoodoo off our back and i can see the drive and motivation coming back into certain players.

Now all we need is some away consistency...then we'll be flying.

if you need to read management books you probably can't manage.

On R5 Live last night in their long discussion on the Rooney/Man U/Alex Ferguson saga, one of the pundits said that Fergie reads every book going on management, not just football, but general man-management, such as "The Art of War", by Sun Tzu - a book read and quoted by many Chief Executives and Dragons Den types. So if it works for Fergie (whatever you think of the grizzly old to55er), then it would work for Nigel.

well I prefer Machiavelli myself, but no doubt Sir Alex has read "The Prince" as well.

Very good result that. Was by no means a great game though, thought we were very poor first half, the goal from Fonte saved them from a barracking by the fans. Was disappointed to see our defenders dropping off their attackers allowing them to run at us,and couldn't understand why were persisting with playing the long ball game when they had a brick ****house of a centre-back mopping up everything.

Second half was an improvement, was an inspired substitution Adkins bringing on the Ox when he did, would much rather see him start in place of Punch from now on. Was gutted for the kid that he hit the post after that awesome run,it deserved to go in. Chaplow didn't cut it for me today either, massively want us to sign a midfield general in January. Credit to Davis for that match winning save at the end.

Oh and what a complete **** Mr '2 yellow cards no sending off' Andy D'Urso was today, had me worried when I read his name on the back of the programme pre-match.

Except that he was woeful and completely at fault last week against Huddersfield!! I'm surprised that he wasn't dropped for today's match. I suspect Adkins approach is to give players another chance. In that way he seeks to build players' confidence. Maybe this is also why Lambert has not been dropped.

Not convinced by a long way. don't get me wrong really happy with the win but we are far from the finished article and deservedly sit in 14th. I know we are only 4pts away from 2nd etc etc. But we really need to find some damaging football if we are to make a statement in this league. For me we are scraping these wins (which is usually a good sign) and not dictating the play as much as we should be. Especially at home which I think most fans find frustrating. Last year we free scoring, this year we seemed to dried up. Alas we miss Papa and Antonio?

Anyways, well done Saints, 3pts is 3pts and that is exactly what we need.

Lets hope for further improvement and dictation on the field of play which in turn could well lead to more chances converted.
