I hope we hang onto him Punch has ability when he arrived last season he made a big impact on the team scored a few and some assists we havent seen the best of him this season but there is no reason to get rid of a player that has ability at this level.

It is to much to ask Chambo to play & play well every game a mix of punch & chambo 1 starting 1 coming on as sub is a good thing to have available it worked well with Antonio & Papa last season.

Well it least it'll shut up the retard next to me at SMS who seems to go along for no reason other than to be smug when puncheon makes a mistake [in his eyes].

As i've said before though i think he actually does a really good job for us, you only need to look at the fact that he's always in the right place to be noticeable, that he scares the opposition with his runs (taking away markers) and that he does actually challenge for the ball.

Good luck to him if he does step up, i really think he could do a decent job at a higher level.

The ones that boo him are generally the ones that dont have a clue about football. The ones that think the only good players are the ones that charge around at 10000 MPH jumping into tackles showing their commitment. He hasn't been on the best of form this season and TBH felt AC deserves his place ahead of him at the moment, however but he is very skillful and creative and weighed in with a few goals and plenty of assists lasr season. The problem with him is is that as a creative player when through ball or run comes to nothnig it makes him look bad, if he found the target with every throughball and beat his man every time he wouldn't be playing in league one. He is clearly a confidence player and needs to be managed properly, as Ince did and MK Dons and Pardew seemed to be doing.

very accurate description. Reminds me of the stick Fabrice Fernandez used to get, the difference being that Puncheon tackles. He has a fantastic first touch, but that extremely important facit of the game is totally ignored by many fans at SMS.

I thought that at the time. Hope we dont offload him, personally.

I shared those thoughts, also it struck me as almost too ideal when I saw his biography in a recent program.

He stated that the best moment of his career was 'Joining Southampton,' surely too good to be true? I was hoping that it was just my cynicism at play.

I find it pretty strange how the original poster on the Millwall site only has two posts to his name, both on that thread, registered in November 10, and appears a few days after the forum's linked on this site. Hmmm.

Wind up.

It's blatantly obvious he'd leave and then do well in the league above. Always seems to happen since we dropped out the top flight. We slagged off players in the CCC and they went off to do well in the Premiership. Slag them off in L1 and they go off to the Championship. OK, many like Gillett aren't as good and we have some top players, but it's still frustrating that these players temporarily overtake the club. Fuller, Delap, Higginbotham, Oakley, Svensson, Nilsson, Kasowski, Blackstock, Cranie, Mills, there are probably others we've had so many players since relegation. Peter Madsen?!

I think that the real conclusions to be drawn from this is that a) None of these players was half as bad as some of our support made them out to be and b) supporters are actually very poor judges of a footballer!

One of the few we have who can make things happen. I hope this is not true, but would not be surprised if it is.

That's the trouble though isn't it, we have too many here 'who can make think happen' who 'aren't making things happen'.

How long do you stick by them on the off chance that they may do it again?

Spot on.

Puncheon will join a long list of players not rated by Saints fans on here who go on to play regularly at a higher level proving they are not crap.

Jones

Fuller

Blackstock

Ormerod

Crainey

Cranie

Higgingbotham

Telfer

McGoldrick

Davies

Delap

Baird

Mills

Williamson

Rasiak

Best

Sad day if he left.......but then again if we part exchanged for ..

Striker Steve Morison or centre half Paul Robinson..deal done...

Bob Hope or No Hope..

Probably get Terry Hurlock back..........mind you he could still out tackle Spiderman..

He won't be part exchanged for anyone, he'll just be shipped out because he apparently can't get on with part of the new management team. This will be a shame, another player carrying the can for Lambert's total uselessness.

One of my favourite players who has lost his way or not suiting the system anymore...

Only hope is that there are good replacements on their way...

I believe some of the high earners are moving out...not much hope of getting quality in...but we can wish...

Charlie Austin was suggested to Saints many times when he was at Poole and also when he first departed Reading.

Steve Morison was suggested to Saints when he was at Stevenage.....

NC might be right about our scouting weaknesses in recent years.....

PS Mackie was also suggested when he was at Exeter before going to Plymouth for £150,000 and then onto QPR.

There is no doubt that Puncheon has ability, but he has not played well this year IMHO. The question is, will he get a game with AOC playing so well & scoring goals. Maybe the club can try & sell, recoup the cost & buy a player for a different position?

FWIW, I think we could replace him. The 2 wingers Carlisle started with on Saturday were on loan from Leeds & Arsenal & looked very capable.

The list that AndyNorthernSaint produces is a little unfair as some of those players were rated by fans, but not by the management. If we had stayed in the Prem or even the Champ some of them may never have left. Blackstock & Best were young & behind a number of other players in the pecking order.

Another one that was too old and past it for us according to several on here a few weeks ago, Robert Pires, is about to sign for Villa.

As if we could afford a player like Pires, probably still asking 15/20K a week.We may or may not have bags of cash but spending wise NC makes Lowe look like Santa Claus

that was laughable when people were saying he was too old for us, some people really are clueless. Just like Darius Vassell wasn't good enough for us!
