on Bompey, P'Boro, MK Dons and Charlton.

Turns this one into a must-win. The pressure is on Saints! - Lets see what you've got.

Well as we're not 20pts ahead of the rest of league one I think they are all pretty much must wins now. (cue someone popping up with some stats to prove we can still lose 6 games, draw 4 and still end up as champions)

can we ban the term 'must-win'?

i've just checked the table and we can actually still win the league if we lose tonight.

What worries me is if we do win tonight the players might take their foot off the gas saturday thinking job done and we go on a catastrophic run due to complacency which will f*ck up our season. Although if we dont win though it could be a disaster and faliure to beat in a team in the relegation zone could have a massive impact on the team confidence and lead to us going on a catastrophic run due to a lack of confidence which will f*ck up our season.

so basicaly were buggered win lose or draw then? we could go for a pitch invasion and get it called off, what do you think?

and risk getting fined and banned form the league? We all know we are skint these days what a stupid suggestion.

so what do you suggest?

you're not getting it are you? On saturday we will see how good Adkins man management skills are depending on how he lifts the team or brings them down a peg or two. Today doesn't matter, at 9.45 the result is history, it's if we win at Colchester, only then will i be convinced promotion is do-able.

This is very true. A draw is best for everyone.

Fingers crossed !

Yeah, it's all to do with the Colchester result - don't think this has been mentioned, but they are another one of our bogey teams.

If this is an Alpine impression it's pretty good.

but a draw could be the worst result of all, an away point leaving some thinking we are brilliant and unbeatable making some players complacent and others thinking we aren't good enough to beat Wallsall how are we going to beat anyone better? A draw could lead to massive disunity in the squad as well as a catastrophic mix of complacency and low confidence. And another thing, my last mid week away game was Exeter, where there were an awful lot of fans wearing red and white when we were playing in BLACK FFS! I cant help but this this had a massive effect on the performance, if the fans cant be bothered to wear the right colour shirts, why should the players be bothered to play properly? Wearing the wrong colours shirts in the crowd could be catastrophic.

Bought some new razors for tonight, just in case we pick up anything less than a win. ;)

would you seriously be happy with beating a team in the relegation zone by anything less than 3 goals? Do you have no ambition?

For god's sake let's not beat them by 6 though.

And if they score 1, regardless of how many we score, we might as well dissolve the club.

If we beat them by 6 it would be catastrophic, look what happened last time we won by 6. In many ways a 6-0 win would be a worse result than losing.

just a win?? meh, I wont be satisfied with anything less than 6 nil to saints. If we fail to score at least six we will be looking at a relegation battle.

I'm starting to worry about the knock on effect this might have on the players if they read this thread and see all of this doubt among the supporters. It's a well known fact that footballers are more susceptible to internet criticism than any other profession in the country. This doesn't bode well.

but what if they dont read this thread? which means they arent interested in the fans opinions?? Isnt that the responsibility of the manager or chairman???? ffs, if we win lose or draw tonight I reckon Cortese and Adkins should seriously consider their positions.

Good point. And what if they did and then consciously decided that they didn't care anyway?

Oh heck! Now they don't care! This is a never ending cycle of doom!

agree, whenever you see the term on here its just over dramatic nonsense - far from must win.

33 points is what it's about. Any combination of results that obtains that figure is OK, In fact we probably only need about 13/15 points from the 9 remaining away games so none of them is "must win" until that number becomes possible only by winning games.

Pointless calling any of the remaining fixtures our "game in hand". They all matter as much as each other and it doesn't really matter what order the next 16 games are played in.

Well, to some extent true. From a purely statistical approach, it matters not where we amass our points total, just that we amass it.

But if you look at it from a psychological point of view, it matters greatly. A clear 2nd, on 61 points, is a *very* different prospect to 5th on 52 with 3 games in hand. For every actual point we can make up, it will make the teams ahead of us more conscious and more nervous. Visibility is key. For example, the current strapline from BBC's League One roundup: "All the goals from Saturday's matches in League One as Bournemouth gain ground on leaders Brighton". We *all* gained ground on Brighton. But Bournemouth are second, so they are the threat. We need to make ourselves the threat, we need to be the team putting the pressure on the others. That's why the games in hand are important.

And that is why we need to win tonight - its all about sending a message to the teams around us. Points on the board are better than points that might be on the board after our games in hand.

Win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win should see us nicely through to second place - simple philosophy for a simple game.

OFF WITH HIS HEAD! This man speaks with an evil tongue and must be cast amongst the sick people and be stoned to within an inch of his life! (;

I think we'll lose tonight.

I hope we don't, but there is something telling me.....

thats right, give me the jitters. I was feeling quietly confident til I read that.

and realised that you're probably right....

I tell you what, we had better win as I will seriously analyse the whole game over and over and over...if a player as so much dares to leave his marker or dares to slip over or dare to not win a 50/50... I will demand adkins' resignation and the expulsion of SFC from the planet

no pressure

"must" = "essential"

Saints: played 30

Says it all really.

As is often said 'points on the board' are better than 'games in hand'.

I think tonight proved that. We are bit crap and don't deserve automatic promotion.

As it ever was....

Absolutely. Bompey always in a good position with points on the board and us still to go to Dean Court. Playoffs at best for us. And rightly so.

I firmly believe if we go to play offs we're looking at another season in league one. Might be time for NC to start work on the "another season in league one plan" that he didn't want to comprehend this season.

I'd be quite pleased if we managed another away win this season - and if we don't we may even kiss the play-offs good-bye.

We'll bottle any play-off games anyway so it matters not.

I'm not even gonna bother looking for the 2-0 defeat against Colchester United until I accidentally see it on Saturday (trawling teletext about 11 o'clock at night)

Quite frankly I'm starting to get well and truly sick and fed-up to the back teeth of this club....
