Gemmel Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 55,000 of us were basking in the Wembley sun. Markus looked like an excited school kid and Waigo pretended it was the World cup final. Happy memories

saint lard Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 What a step backwards we have taken. At best we are standing still and lacklustre performances. Limping to promotion will go some way to making amends. What a really smashing day that was, full of optimism for the future, excitement and a dominant footballing side. Very rarely went into a game expecting anything but a win.
Matthew Le God Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 You were right though - happy memories. Such a shame this is the high point of what Markus saw us achieve before he died. At least he witnessed it, but hopefully we will see bigger and better achievements in the coming years all thanks to him.

I imagine he is referring to his opinion that we have failed to kick on from last year. Whilst my feelings are not as strong as saint lard's, I think if most people were honest, they thought we were going to **** the league this year and totally dominate teams in the aftermath of the excellent wembley display. Now I don't agree with that. I think this year, second seems mediocre, but I don't think if we are promoted that you can say with certainty that 'we will have mediocrity.' There are so many factors that we don't know about next season, chief among them is the size of the transfer budget, so it is much to early to assess how well we will do in the NPC should we get promoted. I miss waigo - Saints have played 36 games. - Peterborough have played 38 games. - Huddersfield have played 38 games. Peterborough and Huddersfield after their first 36 games had a poorer record than Saints. A 36 game league puts Saints 2nd, behind Brighton. Yes, it is not the Championship winning season many expected. But it is far from "mediocre".

In the dictionary it is defined as average or ordinary. In my opinion, the expectations I had for saints following wembley were realistic. Our position and our performances as a whole have actually been below what I expected and so mediocre sums it up well I think.

I liked him, I liked his attitude and I actually thought he was a really good and charismatic player. I think we have missed him this year and he would have been a fantastic option to bring on in place of Chamberlin. Has the ability to change a game which we don't really have off the bench this year. If the same had happened to Brighton I doubt they would be where they are now. Before someone has a go at Cortese for being the reason why we had three managers - none of us know why Pardew was sacked. It may or may not of been for good reason. Before someone has a go at Cortese for being the reason why we had three managers - none of us know why he was sacked. It may or may not of been for good reason. I wasn't arguing that. Whatever the cause (and there are people on both sides of the argument on that one as you well know) our performance for the season as a whole has been mediocre. Limping to promotion will go some way to making amends. What a really smashing day that was, full of optimism for the future, excitement and a dominant footballing side. Very rarely went into a game expecting anything but a win. Little did we know that the start of the following season would be so poor and that we would part company with a decent manager after a few games, then have an awful run under the caretaker, which has defined our season (meaning we did not compete for the title). But still although we may not have played champagne football (indeed some of our displays of late have been quite poor), nevertheless our manager has a win percentage of well over 60% (I think its 62 but can't be bothered to confirm) and the likelihood is that we will be promoted. Hardly a step backwards, but maybe not as much of a leap forwards as most of us anticipated a year ago. If we get promoted, no-one (except Lardy) will care though. I got up an hour early after fearing some sort of malfunction with the clocks in my house as the clocks went foward the night before. Ended up 2 hours early some how?! Getting on the first train at central, the green man, the way we won, Markus taking photos was truely a day to remember.

hypochondriac Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 I stayed in London for the weekend. Great place to spend an evening but bloody expensive. The last bar we went in was downstairs and jewish and was the last one open. Spoke to a load of Carlisle fans and they were good lads. It was a cracking but expensive weekend even though I was ridiculously hungover for wembley.

True, but I don't see how challenging for automatic promotion can be described as midiocrity, that's is what Charlton and Sheff Weds are experiencing. dubai_phil Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 Ah, back to the OP. It may have only have been the JPT, but having 55,000 of us all in one place and with one voice and one belief - The Saints are Coming... For THAT to ever happen again has to be right up there with winning the Euromillions as a dream. Mediocrity is defined in the dictionary as average or ordinary. In relation to my expectations following the JPT final, I think we are doing averagely well in terms of performance at least (and this is taking the entire season into account, not just the Adkins bit.) Anyway it is a side-issue, I do really miss Waigo. Do we hold the record for the most supporters of one team at Wembley?

S-Clarke Posted 27 March, 2011 Share Posted 27 March, 2011 Twas a great day, although I was screwed up by the clocks. Missed the infamous 6:50 train at Soton Central....but managed to get the 7:30 one. I didn't think I'd have fond memories of standing up for an entire train journey but it was a real good laugh, great atmosphere and great banter. The day at Wembley was great, my first time at the new Wembley and we had a great view right from the top (can't remember the block name!) It's a shame we didn't bother trying to retain it!
