Pitch invasion & end-of-season parties

The Northam will sing "on the pitch, on the pitch, on the pitch" fir the entire second half then when a load do go on they'll start singing "w*****s" at those that do.

The Northam and modern day barmies their finest. One of the many reasons I and many others no longer sit there.

I won't be running onto the pitch, but I might grab a girl's boob in celebration. (Without my missus seeing me do it of course...)

Hasn't the club said they'd try to ban people that run on the pitch in the past?

A pitch invasion at Plymouth is likely if we go up. At home to Walsall would be a definite too if we're promoted.

I'll most probably be having an end of season party for the rest of the summer, though.

would be tastless to do it on their own pitch on the day they could be relegated. cant we show abit of humility and not do it at there's and only at st mary's?

StuRomseySaint used to bang on about this, almost verbatim in fact. Are you him?

i love to see the passion when the pitch is full of fans BUT ....................... (and i am sure i will get slated for this) it ruins it for those of us that choose not to run on the pitch (or cant) and we then dont get to see the players lap of honour. so do it at Plymouth but stay off at St Marys please.

That would go down well with the locals. For us to go up there would mean relegating them. Imagine if the boot was on the other foot and they did that at St Marys.

Newcastle did it last season and Plymouth had no problem with it. They even played 'We are the Champions' over the tannoy for them. We'll have to see anyway.

why were they singing w*nkers at them? nothing to do with those going on the pitch ignoring the announcements that any pitch invasion would mean the players wouldn't do a lap of honour. also was it being chanted with real vitriol or in jest ? , as it was mostly the later were i was that day.

Dont pitch invade at plymouth, allow the players to come over and celebrate with the fans that go and the rest of us at SMS vs walsall, do a pitch invasion if everyone else is otherwise allow the lap of honour.

but im not thinking about the championship until saints have another at least 4 points from the next 2.

They might have a problem if we relegate them by winning or drawing.

Same happened that day, Newcastle won 2-0 - secured promotion but relegated Plymouth at the same time.

Always thought it was quite odd that Plymouth were so generous as to play that....although maybe they felt they were down before that game anyway.

Why do people feel the need to go on the pitch anyway? Why can't you celebrate in the stands? If Saints fans do it against Walsall it may end up getting the club in trouble.

I doubt it will tbf. The FA/FL knows that pitch invasions will happen up and down the country on the final day for different reasons, they're not going to punish anyone for it - they never have before.

Depends if it gets out of hand or not. There could be a pitch invasion from Saints fans at Home Park next Monday with Saints celebrating promotion whilst relegating Plymouth. Could turn nasty.

I still don't understand the need for the Northam End to celebrate on the pitch rather than in the stands.

Don't remember us getting in to trouble when there was a near-riot against Burnley.

And how did you come up with the delusional idea it's just the Northam stand that goes on the pitch?!

What if they are relegated on Saturday? Can we stick it to them then?

"I still don't understand the need for the Northam End to celebrate on the pitch rather than in the stands."

Why pick the Northam end, not just "fans" then?

Because in previous pitch invasions at St Mary's the Northam stand is where it tends to start from and a higher % of those in the Northam stand illegally enter the field of play than from the Itchen/Chapel/Kingsland stands.

Sweeping generalisations but...

Itchen - full of the posh seats and the old

Kingsland - full of the old

Chapel - full of families

Northam - full of chavs more likely to start chants of "on the pitch, on the pitch", and then actually run on the pitch and break the law.

I'm not saying people from the Chapel/Kingsland/Itchen won't go on the pitch, many of them will when they see that the stewards and police have given up due to overwhelming numbers. But I bet you it is the Northam that is at the heart of any pitch invasion.

I really don't see why going on the the pitch to celebrate is better than doing it in the stands. It will also delay the players coming out after the game for a lap of honour.

Invading the pitch is one of the best feelings ever, 10 years ago we were all on the pitch when le tiss scored last min v arsenal, it is nothing new and anyone who simply doesn't understand the enjoyment to be had is probably a boring bastard. Hopefully we get on at Plymouth and the walsall game.

It is an act that is against the law. Why is it "boring" to not get your thrills from breaking the law? You will just delay any lap of honour that the players do, or even cause it not to happen at all.

Agreed. Can't wait for Plymouth, think we're on the same train down.

The Northam at their finest. One of the many reasons I and many others no longer sit there.

To be more specific, about 30 people at the back will sing it, loads will sing along with no intention of going on the pitch unless hundreds of others do, then a few will get persuaded into following them because they have even worse judgement, that will escalate or not depending on the crowd control (dogs and the like will wind up the nobbers who will then be determined to get on JUST to annoy the people who dare to stop them), and the people who think they're acting like childish bellends showing off and stopping everyone else from enjoying themselves properly will boo the shart out of them, and rightly so. Personally I'd rather the pr1cks stay off the pitch and give all of us the chance to see the team celebrate.

Mostly because the crowd has initially gathered at the front of the Northam.

The crowd control (stewards / police /dogs etc) gathers there, leaving those in the side stand (which includes people who've snuck under the barrier from the Northam during the second half, and don't tell me it doesn't happen, I've watched them) a relatively clear run.

How about we get the points first? Threads like this could well end up making ourselves look like utter divs.

As opposed to the "completely justifiable" pitch invasion against Burnley which didn't make anyone look like a div as it was to celebrate, um... nothing.

Practically all pitch invasions are started by people with the mentality of children just showing off. There's then a pecking order of peer group pressure and acceptance which gradually encompasses practically everyone, depending on how likely it looks that there will be any repercussions, and how interested in being on the pitch they are - rather than just going home.

With that in mind, here's a photo of the centre spot from after the Sheffield Utd game under Pearson. :D

Why are you insulting me when you've just given proof that you've done the same thing, then?

To answer a couple of points:

1- Why can't you just celebrate in the stands

That's what I do EVERY other time in the season when celebrating, hence it being a bit more special to celebrate differently.

2- You will delay the lap of honour

Honestly, boo f**king hoo. Do you really think after the players have just been promoted (IF!) they will be bothered if they get home 10 mintues later than planned. Probably not. And as for the fans in the stand waiting for it, just enjoy celebrating in SMS for another 10 minutes seeing as you will not be there in the summer. OR just join us on the pitch and don't be boring.

For me, watching any pitch invasion on the TV always looks like the fans are loving it and it is a much more ecstatic way to celebrate than watching a stadium politely applaud and cheer a promotion/survival. I will always join in a pitch invasion at SMS (when CELEBRATING anyway.....I thought the angry "we've just been relegated" one was cringeworthy). Make the most of it while you're allowed to, which you will be after 30 or so fans are already on. Saves spending 300 odd quid to play on the surface anyway!!

Exactly this. I didn't understand the Burnley pitch invasion and didn't go on myself, but for a promotion it's a bit of fun. Doesn't harm anyone.

MLG - it's called having some fun, nothing to do with breaking the law, try it sometime, you might just enjoy it!

People are getting their fun because they know they shouldn't be doing it and get a buzz from that, so it absolutely has something to do with breaking the law. In the event of Saints being promoted I will enjoy celebrating from my seat in the Kingsland and then I will go to the pub and celebrate some more, I have no need or desire to go anywhere near the pitch as it adds nothing to the celebration.

Celebrate with some cocaine in the toilet no doubt...it adds nothing to the pub experience MLG. I know you think you're being a little bit naughty breaking the law and all. But just say no.

There is no feeling in the world that compares to being amongst thousNds of fellow fans on OUR pitch if you are celebrating something, somincan understand why people feel the urge

For those lucky enough to have actually played on it, it brings back happy memories.

I remember when it was actuLly encouraged and the players would throw their shirts down from the West Stand. I still have a shoulder from Danny Walace's shirt that I fought over with about twenty others.
