It's getting on for 25 years since De La Soul released their ground breaking album, '3 Feet High and Rising'.

United States of Audio have created a one hour mix that is essentially a deconstruction / documentary about the making of the album, that features original samples, interviews etc.

The mix includes about 100 tracks and took several years to complete. It's in the same vein as the incredible deconstruction of Paul's Boutique by DJ Food, DJ Cheeba and DJ Moneyshot, that appeared last year.

It's available as a free download here https://soundcloud.com/ninja-tune/solid-steel-radio-show-24-5-1

If you didn't catch the Paul's Boutique mix, it's still available to download here https://soundcloud.com/ninja-tune/solid-steel-radio-show-31-8-1

Both highly recommended.

Thanks man, I'll definitely give those a listen.

This has always been my favourite SWF thread. I love how it's mutated over the years, and how more and more videos are being posted.

I thought I'd post a couple of video mixes that have impressed me lately.

First up is a 10 minute video mix preview from Hexstatic.

This is utterly insane. It feels akin to something the CIA would use as part of their Rendition Roadshow.

I felt disorientated watching it, like I was experiencing sensory overload. At the back of my mind was the nagging feeling that I was being brainwashed.

I recommend watching fullscreen in HD with some headphones with decent bass response. LSD will be provided.

Nice mixes Block 5 - particularly enjoyed the Hexstatic one. Have they done any more mixes similar to that?

I believe that mix is part of a new forthcoming live show. Gotta be worth seeing live if they're playing anywhere local.

Here's another older Hexstatic AV mix:

In the mean time, if you like that kind of stuff then check out the Solid Steel Vimeo feed. There's some really clever stuff in there.

For the full tilt immersive AV experience, try DJ Food's Dome Club event at Birmingham Dome. It's not on for much longer and it's pretty unique. http://www.thinktank.ac/page.asp?section=968

Another Boards of Canada diversion.......

DJ Food has edited 'Reach for the Dead' into a 10 minute version. He did this for "purely selfish reasons - because it's so incredible and way too short".

You can hear it here https://soundcloud.com/strictly/boc-rftd-djfood-10min, but be quick, it could disappear soon and without warning.

That's a great extended version too!

Boards of Canada - 'Tomorrow's Harvest'.

Well it's great isn't it. More like the first album than any of the subsequent albums. And that's a good thing in my opinion.

They have a sound unlike anyone else; with a beguiling warmth that sits so well with those chubby beats.

When I listen to it I'm reminded of those 1970s 'futuristic' scientific research / corporate puff films that were mimicked by the Dharma Initiative in the TV series Lost.

One wonders if those two Scottish lads were abducted in the 1970s by some kind of benevolent, analogue synthesis-based alien life forms.....

I think it's their darkest, most frightening record to date, and also the starkest. It's almost like all the childlike melodies (and the children's voices) that we had on their first couple of records are invoked and mourned by their absence. All pretty brutal and post-apocalypse. In a good way...

So, to round off my temporary obsession with all things Boards and electronica, here's the latest edition of my podcast which is a Warp Records special.
