Remember him?

Just wondering if anyone else thinks he could do a job next season as CM cover or he could even be converted to a CB or RB due to his tenacity and size?

Knowing Deano, he'd be chomping at the bit to have a crack at the prem with us and he's got another solid season under his belt and is a good age to improve.

Sorry but no.

Decent performer, and good captain for us in the Champ & L1.

But like many others, he is not one to progress as far as the club wants to. Deserves to be playing, at best he will be a back up back up, and even then out-of-his depth.

Move him on, and wish him all the best. Same category as Chaplow and Sharp for me.

Captains of successive promotions IMO don't desrve just to be "moved on" like some kind of container shipment of knock-off trainers.

Cortese values achievements and IMO Deano will get a new deal, even if he is just loaned out each year. Would certainly like him to take part in pre season before nay decisions are made.

He isnt in the same situation as Chaplow or Sharp - he did far more.

If he isn't going to get anywhere near the first team, which he isn't, then why keep him?

Surely he would rather be playing regular football? We aren't going to start picking him out of sentiment. Would be much worse to waste his career here sitting on the bench, when he can get games in the Championship.

Burley is that you?

Either way I think you're aiming your sights quite astonishingly low. Hammond was a half decent Championship CM, he's not Premier League quality and he certainly isn't a centre half. We should be trying to bring in international class CBs who can take us to the next level. Forren (I have faith he will play and come good, now just isn't the time to throw him in the team) and Astori look like good targets to me.

Some people need to accept that some players, no matter how good they were last year and how much dedication they have shown, aren't good enough to take us where we want to be. Chaplow falls into that bracket too, so do Frazer, Fox, Sharp, Lee and Guly.

Agree with that, have always said that Chaplow would be a decent LB.

He is light on his feet, tenacious and can drift by a man. Only think of Chaplow is he is right footed. Would certainly make a decent RB - can see little in terms of ability between Chappy and someone like Seamus Coleman at Everton.

Sorry Saint Charlie...but what are you smoking?? there is no room for sentiment in football...especially not from the Don

The fact Hammond was in a few promotion teams means nothing...it didn't save Adkins

Hammond will be gone and rightly so...decent player but the Championship is his level...doubt Brighton would want him if they got promoted...

You like many other Saints fans need to wake up...the days of signing ordinary players are over...the club is looking to go places and you don't do that by carrying deadwood

I live in Brighton and surrounded by Seagulls fans - They generally cant stand him and is a bit of a scape goat with their fans - main criticism is that he is so incredibly slow and always looks for the sideways pass. Cant see him fitting into our style of play - Dont think Brighton will extend his contract

Sorry but this comment smacks of someone who has had their head up their ar*e for the last 3 years.

Cortese has displayed absolute loyalty to the playing staff who did a good job, and Hammond undoubtedly did and will go down as one of our most successful captains ever.

Jaidi has been given a new role at the club whilst Kelvin Davis recently signed a new contract despite it being obvious he will play an increasingly minimal part in the first team. If Cortese had no room for sentiment then why keep Davis, why offer Lambert a contract til age 34, why offer Hooiveld a 3 year contract when we could have terminated his loan in the summer etc.

Why don't you start understanding that the players love Cortese because he shows loyalty to them, and isnt one to just cast someone aside who has done a very good, loyal job for you.

Get with the times pal, and start looking at what is actually happening at the club rather than making lazy comments that you probably have taken from Alan Brazil's Sports Breakfast!

Jaidi has taken up a non playing role, so that is irrelevant.

Lambert probably got a new contract on account of the massive number of goals he scored and continues to score?

Hooiveld was initially on loan but then signed permanently in January 2012.

Davis started the season as first choice keeper, and is the clear choice at the moment for reserve keeper.

Most importantly, these three players have actually played and performed in the Premier League. They are arguably all certain to feature in a match day team/bench when fit. I'm guessing that's why they got new contracts, as opposed to Cortese getting all misty eyed over what they did when we were in League 1.

Right okay, so we are going to take back a player who we have loaned to Brighton for the past year, under the impression that he is now ready to contribute in the Premiership at the right old age of 30...this is coming from the person who thinks we should sign Pugh from Bournemouth...crikey im glad you are not on the transfer board, we would be relegated by now...

Sorry Saint Charlie but you speak absolute drivel....we are not going to give a new contract to a guy who we loaned out for a year to a lower division club...Davis actually played in the Prem

Please find a brain cell and think before you write this rubbish

To both of you above: Kelvin Davis has of course played for us this season in the Prem. However, if you think that he has been given a new contract because of his performances this season then you are sadly mistaken. He has largely been awful.

In addition, he had another year left anyway.

His contract is a reward from Cortese for his previous displays and his loyalty and professionalism.

Cortese rewards this in players.

Bit out of order mate. Saint Charlie may write some stuff you don't agree with but please debate without the insults. If he didn't write his "rubbish", you would have nothing to do at 5:15 on a Thursday.

Kelvin Davis rewarded for performances this season with new deal. ROFL.

I know who is coming up with rubbish!

Beat he goes to Reading. Think the Championship is his level. He really wouldn't cut it at this level.

We will never know because Adkins decided he couldnt. He also decided Gazza was better than Boruc....

At least Sharp was given a runout vs Wigan to be assessed but Hammond wasn't. Pretty sure MP will want to take a closer look.

agree with that...and HdidAJFU when it mattered, but if Brighton make the play-offs and the third spot, he'll struggle in the Prem. next season.

Sharp and Hammond at this level ? In this team ? Playing the way we do ?

Are you head mental ?

He'll be gone in the summer. Bought in to do a job for us, like Jaidi, Barnard, Harding, Richardson etc - they did that job and they were succesfull at the level we bought them for. So you've got to thank them for that, but now look forward to improving and upgrading on these guys.

Subtle wind up given fully away BY ridiculous comparison at end of post.
