Brendan Rodgers Leaves Liverpool

Thing is for Lallana is that he's competing with Coutinho and Firmino for a place in the starting lineup.

Klopp nearly always plays 4-2-3-1 with 'inverted wingers' or 'inside forwards' IIRR

So he could go with all 3

Lallana Coutinho Firmino

Sturridge or Benteke up top

Henderson with Can/Allen/Lucas holding

He's got a job on his hands sorting out the defence though which had always been Rodgers's problem even when they came 2nd.

Lol ffs. That entire city is so deluded. My facebook timeline is full of stupid Liverpool fans now thinking they're going to push City for the title (I'm a member of that Sportsmania group, so I get a lot of that waffle!).

Such an entirely deluded fan-base detached from modern reality.

But hang on, don't you remember they won the league a few times in the 80's???

Strange bunch they are... But I guess Klopp will do better for them than brainless Brendan as he's proven he knows something about tactics. On the other hand, as we like to say in Holland: "a manager/coach is as good as his material allows him to be..." So Klopp will be needing to buy some enforcements... What's the current pricetag on Mane?

Not sure but if Liverpool are ever interested, I'd use Andy Carroll as a benchmark.....so roughly around £100M

Absolutely, and that "annoys" me (I put that in inverted commas as it is a football annoy which in the real world isn't an annoyance at all as I am completely ambivalent about it). The media and many others think that we all want Liverpool to do well because of their specialness. Well I like many others really don't. When they fluffed the title I was delighted.

As for Klopp, I really don't care too much if he succeedes or not. We have never finished above Liverpool, and the aim is to finish above them and everyone else. How he progresses will be viewed with more curiosity than anything else, and if he does badly then there will be a wonderful schadenfreude as the Scousers moan and go into meltdown.

" I think that’s why he wanted our job. He is a man who will have done his homework. He will know the history. He will have researched our sub-cultures and customs."

Whilst their supporters are deluded, I actually quite like Klopp.

The the way he came across today in his presser, especially when he totally debunks the above by saying (not word for word) - he's a normal guy, Liverpool's history is history, their supporters are not particularly special and the same as countless clubs the world over and so the pressure of coaching liverpool is no different, the all the external hype is superfluous and he doesn't really give a sh*t about it.

They were special for a period of time in the last century and did the country proud. You might be too young to remember the forays into Europe by Celtic, Leeds, Liverpool and Forest but we were all rooting for them in those days. How things have changed!

Agree with this - nothing against Liverpool, who were an awesome side in the 80s that I grew up watching. Rodgers was a tit, now he's gone, Liverpool can go back to being like any other football team rather than hoping Rodgers failed with them.

No one is doubting their history.

I first got the hump with them when we were banned from Europe. It might not be a big deal for them, but for a smaller club like us it is. But that was a long time ago.

But since then, their arrogance almost (although some will say it does) comes across as a sense of entitlement, and boy aren't we all reminded of their history. Man Utd who have more reason to crow about success aren't half as bad as the Scousers. Then there is the fawning by the press. And recently Rodgers hasn't endeared the club to Saints. I'm sure others have their own reasons. But that view might be jaundiced by the presence of Rodgers so things might change!

This sort of sums it up for me.

Why should those non-Liverpool supporters be glad that Klopp is going to Liverpool and whether or not he can make them box-office again?

"Klopp appeals to a wider audience than Gerard Houllier or Rafa Benitez did" - so ****ing what?

"People will hang on his every word. Everyone will be watching Liverpool" - I for one won't.

Arrogance.

The only thing ever special to them for me is how cringeworthy they are. Beyond any club in the world for me. Those 'special' nights at Anfield, that fcking whiny awful song, not actually having to win anything for decades to be a massive club, producing lots of local players who mysteriously all look the same. Can't stand them.

This.

And the fact I'm suspicious of anyone who smiles so broadly you can see all their teeth.

I just hate that they still talk as if they are European greats, belong in the Champions League and should be competing for the title every year.

They've not won the league for 25 years.

One European Cup in the last 30 years, same as Partizan Belgrade, Marseille and Steaua.

They talk about how they did the treble 15 years ago, without actually winning the League or CL.

They've won 1 League cup in the last 10 years.

They're a big club no doubt but as big as Spurs, not Barcelona.

I will add to that is the amount by of ex players they have as pundits and the love-in we are all supposed to have with them.

I have heard how Rodgers can leave Liverpool as a huge inspiration to other British managers and how special they are..!!!

Really?!?!??!?

You get the impression from the media that ALL fans in England will want klopp to succeed.

It is amazing how the "it's a huge blow to British managers" has been wholly replaced by "It's a gift to the whole Premier League" bull's hit.

Why is it a gift to the PL? It will be interesting to see what happens if he cannot bring any success to them.

perhaps because...like Spurs fans....they go on about past glories like they were last season and we're supposed to hold them in higher regard because of that ....

I like history, but it's about stats. and a good memory. The reality of football is where you finished last season ....and what was the result of your last match.

Big time owners come and go ....and spend money like water, in an attempt to re-live old glories.

I enjoyed May 1st 1976, but it means very little to my grandson.

Read that Klopp has told Liverpool players that ...." it's my way or the highway " and anyone who doesn't play accoring to his strategy will be ignored / sold / out in the cold.

.....well can't be clearer than that - can he ? Wonder who'll be first out of the door?.

Does he always speak in rhymes?

I was never impressed with Rodgers to say the least, I thought he was very lucky with Suarez when Liverpool came in second and the interviews with him at Match of the Day gave me the impression that the man was clueless when it came to tactics. However, last night I saw a documentary about Swansea and how close they were to enter oblivion and bounced back. After the departure of the manager Martinez they chose Brendan Rodgers who presented the board of Swansea a 'complete dossier' with his vision on football. Too bad there weren't any details told of his vision and I guess Rodgers didn't want to co-operate with the producers of the documentary as he wasn't interviewed like Martinez. Yet, as Swansea made it to the PL with Rodgers at the helm, he surely must have some abilities?

Hate Klopp being there, one of my favourite characters in the game at the club I like the least. Kind of want him to do well though. Or maybe it just be a really bad fit, he ends up sacked as Koeman is leaving and he can come here to restore his reputation at a sensible club.

Shouldn't this be P*mpey? :mcinnes:

I like the comment:

Rebeckah Vaughan, who posed for a photograph with the 48-year-old, said: "He was really nice and friendly. I spoke to his wife a lot about Liverpool, they were both really happy to be here."

... should have added not that his wife understood a f^ckin word of their accents though..
