Flynn Downes quite clearly said he doesn’t want to be here and threw his toys out the pram. Joe Aribo probably doesn’t want to be here, but has never kicked off seemingly, it’s just been alluded that he had offers from abroad in the summer.

I don’t personally find that upsetting to the point that he should have been ‘finished with the club’ because of it. Whilst pissed (for context).

Bakovnetski Posted November 29 Posted November 29 (edited) Did anyone else think that Downes' reaction on Tuesday to getting booked was a little fake and ham acting at best? If Eckert had told him to not get booked then he was pretty reckless in many of his challenges up until that point. Maybe I'm cynical but it looks like warming the bench is currently his favourite position. Edited November 29 by Bakovnetski

Totally ridiculous challenges knowing you're a yellow away from suspension.
danjosaint Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Im not his biggest fan but I say that was genuine, he's a west ham fan and a good chance so is some of his family, a game against Millwall knowing the rivalry would've meant a lot

No. And as we go through yet another manager who picks him when he’s available I think we can continue to put to bed the idea that he’s not committed or a bad egg too. 2

Turkish Posted November 29 Posted November 29 He’s had more bookings that starts this season hasn’t he? Always seems to have fitness concerns
LiberalCommunist Posted November 29 Posted November 29 I really liked this guy, then he signed for us. What a change. A great man once said hard work beats talent..... Downes isn't even a mercenary, he's a coward. 3

HarvSFC Posted November 29 Posted November 29 He was very important to the side two years ago in that if he didn't play we lost as we couldn't defend with Smallbone in his role. He missed 13 out of the 46 league games that season through illness, suspension and injury. That hasn't proven to be a one off either with chunks of last season missed due to illness and suspension as well as his time with Juric. While, he's only started 8 matches for us this season due to illness and suspension. Downes' biggest problem is that he's just too unreliable for us to build a side with due to his unavailability. 1
saintwbu Posted November 29 Posted November 29 Personally think the fan base reaction to him just because he fell out with one of the worst managers we’ve ever had (Juric), is really weird. Even Juric brought him back in after a couple of games after realising how poor the alternatives were. He’s been injury and illness prone since we got him, he nearly didn’t sign for us because he was ill - he hasn’t suddenly decided to down tools just because Juric was shit. 4
hypochondriac Posted November 29 Posted November 29 A player who is hard to love. Too unreliable and I'd have questions over his attitude. With Bragg, Jander and Romeu I'm not sure we need him. 2

Bragg has played about 85 minutes in the Championship in his entire career, Romeu is 34 and hasn't played since making 10 minute sub appearances in Spain last spring and Jander is a completely different type of player. We need Downes. I don't really get the criticism of him TBH. Far too many people moan about how we're always a team of, "noddy son in laws, who are too small and skinny and afraid to get stuck in and they're only here as part of a player trading algorithm and they go to Anfield and they lose 1435-0 and they applaud politely because it's such a priviledge for them to play there and our polite fans cheer and clap them off etc." Then when we actually have a midfielder who puts a few dirty tackles in and gets booked, he gets slated. 1 1

He's out sick every other week. That's my main issue with him along with being a bit questionable mentally.imo
OnceaSaintalwaysaSaint Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Interesting find, SuperSAINT. That does make a lot of sense because he is regularly ill and he even looks unhealthy. Does this go back to his eating that dodgy chicken? After that, I'm sure he played a lot of games on the bounce and was one of our stars two years ago. He has a lot to offer and our medical bods should be working overtime getting him eating the right diet and match fit.
Lard Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago All points to IBD or IBS….Chrones,Ulcerative Colitis, diverticulitis etc. Can be debilitating when having a flare up. can be managed by diet, but not always. would explain a lot for his sporadic absence. 3
Fabrice29 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Complete cunt. Unreliable. Sack this guy off. Questionable attitude. Sick note. Only turns up for the big games. Coward. Etc etc apparently. 1 1

Challenger Posted 38 minutes ago Posted 38 minutes ago Had dinner around Flynn,s a couple of weeks ago, can honestly say he's a top notch bloke who wants to give his all for the club. Would have posted this comment earlier but I've been laid up lately with gut rot and the shits. 1
