This thread is a real rollercoaster of ups, downs and lengthy periods of tedium where nothing much happens. A bit like watching an actual game I suppose. 😁

My only assumption here, if this is true, is that the total package exceeds. Usually, release clauses are to be paid in full upfront.

That makes sense, thanks.

Would be nice for this saga to end in our favour for a change, would do well to boost Spors reputation amongst fans. Can he deliver a player we shouldn’t really be able to attract at championship level?

They didn’t get him for peanuts. £7m for a Championship LB back then was a very good price.

But we got £1m rated Tommy Fourpast as part of the deal.
A hell of a bargain!!!!!!!!!!

The old Arsene Wenger special 😂

I never understood why this got so much criticism. Why would you offer more than you have to? What was I missing?

I’m not saying I don’t think we need one, just saying there’s no way we’re signing another centre forward this window with current numbers we have.

We have Stewart, Downs, Armstrong, BBD and Archer. It would take two, maybe three of those to leave for us to bring in another.

Always injured, young prospect, 4ft tall, donkey, 4ft tall

I also think we need another striker, personally. I’d be happy to let most of ours go if we can bring in one more good one.

He's also saying he hopes the owner accepts the offer which just contradicts this because if he had a release clause it wouldn't matter what the owner says.

He has said the report of the new bid came from Ivan Karpov - an apparently reliable jounalist in Russian football so added to the extensive quotes from the agent earlier it probs has truth to it.

The release clause was mentioned by Armeniefootball in a reply to someone so separate source. I imagine he is a fan who might have some limited info but mostly aggregates others as is the case here.

Seems clear we want him, he wants Saints but unsuprisingly a Russian club isnt easy to take their best player and captain from.

Did that stop him from scoring 24 Championship goals to help get us promoted?

Who doesn't want a "good striker", but I am not sure the club is fighting off bidders, so "letting them go" is harder than you are making it sound.

Interesting comment from Still in today's pre-macth press conference: "It's difficult when you've got international managers telling players they need to play in a higher league than the Championship" (paraphrasing)... not sure who he's talking about there?

Will Still on Issa Kabore...
Yeah, we have spoken to him. I've had quite a few players from City over the past couple of years, I've always worked well with them. He is an option, but again, we're just negotiating and trying to find a way for it to work for all parties. Issa is a good player, he's got a few qualities. It's ongoing.

Not a Top league according to this vodka breather.

Below all the teams in Champs that have a higher av attendance than Krasnador (plus the league overall av is 13k  - 2nd pic) and secondly our dug outs are older than theirs !!!!!!

Does he not know how this works, we are a bigger club and have the older dug outs !!

I had no idea Krasnodar was that big a club and got that many fans through the gates. Give us a season or two in the championship and that 27k average might be similar. Bigger ground than ours too. TV money on a different scale of course.

Here's a type up of all of Will Still's answers on transfer-related questions in the press conference just now

on the pace of progress in the transfer window...
I feel as if we've had the same conversation since the start of pre-season. It is what it is, the market is what it is. There's stuff being worked on and there is stuff moving but it's just taking longer than most of us hoped and longer than Johannes hoped as well. The situation is what it is, we're waiting and hoping to unlock things and make things happen but it is a bit of a fight at times, yes.

on the frustration of waiting for new arrivals and players to leave...
I'm ignoring it, to be totally honest. As difficult as that is, I'm only focusing on the players that are here, the players that want to play and want to win games for us and parking that side of things to one side of my head and letting the people upstairs crack on with that. I can't control it anyway.

on trying to get players out of the club almost being more frustrating than incomings...
Yes, that is moving. There will be stuff that happens before the end of the week but there's just a load of things that you have to face and a load of situations that come up and you think 'okay...' like national team coaches telling people that they need to be in first division clubs or top five leagues to be in contention and thought about for World Cups and stuff. The transfer window is what it is, it creates a load of situations. But we're working on it. There is activity within the club, it's just a complicated market at the moment, I think.

on the Championship being equal to some of the top five European leagues...
Yeah, that's what I don't get. But that's for other people to debate about.

on Issa Kabore...
Yeah, we have spoken to him. I've had quite a few players from City over the past couple of years, I've always worked well with them. He is an option, but again, we're just negotiating and trying to find a way for it to work for all parties. Issa is a good player. He's got a few qualities. It's ongoing.

on Finn Azaz...
We've got a new name every week, don't we? The list is long and we want good players and we're looking at good players. But we want good players in the right conditions and that are going to fit what we're trying to do, not just on a footballing level but also on those human skills. Finn's scored goals, he's a good player and he knows he is. Yeah...

on whether that has been any progress on Eduard Spertsyan...
Slow. It's just that people have got agendas and negotiating skills that can be difficult. We're being open and very honest with things but people tend to struggle with all of that.

on whether Eberechi Eze's move opens up the market for Tyler Dibling...
I don't know, I've no idea. You'd have to ask Crystal Palace, Arsenal or Tottenham. I read all of this stuff at the same moment you guys do and I saw on Sky Sports News at 8am this morning with breaking news, but yes, it is what it is. Tyler's fine by the way. He's trained really well, he's totally fine and he's relaxed. Same thing goes for Mateus. If something does happen, you'll probably know before I do!

on whether MF and TD continue to be available for selection...
Yes, 100 per cent. We've got a squad of 24 players that are fit and are ready to play. We know that we can only take 18 on our team sheet, so we're going to make choices about the football side of it and ignore the rest of it. Players need to be ready, they need to be fit and they need to be wanting to win football games. We'll base our decisions on training and football and not all the speculation.

So the price was comparable then to the Dibling move. Excellent. Helps with the comparison. Any insight as to how Spurs fans felt about the Bale signing?

Nah Lighthouse is real, I played in midfield with him for one of the Saints fan games once 😂

Fernandes...

By my reckoning (courtesy of Wikipedia), 17 out of the 36 players listed in the Portugese international squad play in leagues ranked lower than the Championship. You can therefore understand Still's obvious frustration that you've got Roberto Martinez seemingly / effectively attempting to encourage Fernandes to leave the club....

Assuming its due to the club being russian and the issues surrounding the war etc

Issue, not an issue. Who knows!? Sunderland were able to sign Wilson Isidor from Russia, so it is possible.

Hello,

Long time reader of the forum, first time poster....

There seems to be a slight pattern in Saints' recent transfers...I noticed with that Finn Azaz is represented by Unique Sports Group, an agency which also represents Will Still, THB, Archer, Quarshie as well as recent players such as Adams and Cornet (lol).

TransferMarkt lists other players represented by Unique Sports Group

https://www.transfermarkt.com/unique-sports-group/beraterfirma/berater/4142

I am not ITK - but maybe something to keep an eye on re other potential targets for this window and next?

I said the other day I wonder what the situation is with giving money to a Russian club.

It’s hardly surprising.

The most surprising thing will be if they didn’t foresee this as an issue in the first place.

All I will say re Azaz, quality player at this level. Good signing.

On a non footballing level, i hope Saints evaluate the religion factor too, specifically during today’s world context, of having people from different religious backgrounds (jews and muslims mixing together) and its not going to affect squad morale.
Have had the case at work and they just ignore each other.

Well that is quite the first ever post….👀👀👀

Not the point. I distinctly remember him missing at least 20 open goals from crosses that were 4' 6'' off the ground. Any other striker gets us 44 and automatic promotion. He's a liability.
