Thanks Rivers. Your two magnificent posts will stay with me long after this match. A heartfelt, emotional and beautifully written piece of prose and an inspiring  tribute to your Dad. 

I lost my own Dad, also a long term Saints fan, after a 5 year battle with grade 4 prostate cancer.

One of my greatest memories was when he took me, a teenager, to Wembley in 1976. A day we would reminisce over thereafter.

After he retired, we sat together at Saint Mary's from the relegation to League 1 until he became too ill to attend in 2022. 

Together we cheered on the Saints to two promotions back to the PL and a Wembley trophy. 

Sport and especially football bonded us throughout our lives and we even played senior football together. I was at his bedside when he passed.

One of my besties now sits on the seat that was his and I wear his scarf to matches.

What a fitting final tribute to your Dad if we thrash the fishy f*****s this weekend. 

I know one thing, your two posts on this forum should be printed in their entirety and pinned to the Saints dressing room this week.

Who couldn't be inspired by those words to give every last ounce of effort 👌

Sorry for the melancholic interlude. Focusing back onto the topic itself, there is something else I have found to be quite special about our Derby with these filthy fish fucking cunts. There is a kind of "possessiveness" about it that has developed over the years. With Bournemouth and Brighton both trying to stoke their own competative rivalries with us in recent times, in particular the Cherries, seeming almost desperate for us to hate them as much as their irrational and highly manufactured 'hatred' for us.

Yet we wanted none of it. Insisting on our hatred only for the fishy few. As much as we cannot stand them, and vice versa, it is almost a grudging acceptance that the existence of the other somehow actually enhances our own footballing existence. As much as a part of me would have loved to see the cheating cunts get the justice they truly deserved for their temporary ill-gotten past successes, and have gone to the wall -- how much richer are our Saints supporting lives, to experience the indescribable passion and fervour that only the sheer intensity of these special derby games bring about?

And the knowledge that (until last week at least) the only times that low-life bottom-feeding scum of a club have been above us in the league system, was due to the sickening trail of "collateral damage" left in their wake, makes victory even sweeter. As they gleefuly burned their way through the the seedy coffers of the loan shark and russian mafia, pissed away the life savings of those poor Lithuanian pensioners, dipped into the Public Purse to the tune of a few hundred million for written off taxes and bad debts like it was their own private equity fund; and of course not to forget the legacy of all those poor maimed African kids from Arcadi Gaydamak's land mines.

They didn't give a fuck where all that filthy lucre came from, just so long as they could splash it around care free on players they could never afford, to get some shiny tat they didn't deserve into the trophy cabinate.

Filthy festering cesspit of a club. Cannot wait to smash the fuck out them next Sunday!

the main man at the time was docker hughes & was him with around 25 skates Waiting wen we got off .. 

what the cunts didn’t realise that earlier train saints fans hung around outside in the Duke of wellington & Made their way up to meet our train .. we were together at least 75 strong & skates faces when the saw the Calvary walk back on Waterloo station .. all Mayhem broke loose & it was carnage .. saints again victorious ! 1974 - Jim Steele , got sent off in the match at The Dell. Took on real hero status for me at the time.

Mick Channon ; regularly scored against them in Division 2. Hattrick I think in one match, 1975, then April 1976 on the Monday or Tuesday after the FA Cup semi final, he scored a late winner against them at Fratton Park. A goal which I think sealed their relegation. (Imagine what those cunts would make of that if the other way round... puts David Norris in the shade).

Mark Dennis - didn't allow being hit by a coin to affect his game in 1984.

Not sure this merits hero status in itself but Steve Williams made his debut at the 1976 Fratton Park match.

Hammond was definitely that, a proper captain for the level we were at. Credit to Pardew for bringing him in and knowing what he would offer.

Agreed. Never quite got the same limelight as the likes of Lambert, Lallana, Fonte, or even Guly, but arguably one of the most important players during that era.

Yep so did i. But not hero status goals. I've gone nuts at all goals against them but they weren't match winning or game changing goals, they weren't a Moran 84 or Crouch 05 winner for example. Lambert is a hero at Saints but it wasn't for those two goals

Marian under heroes, was sat behind his goal in the 3-0, lovely technique and a really classy player before injuries ruined him. Oakley’s 30 yard monster in the 2005 cup game was memorable as well.

Dennis is proper proud of taking that coin to the head and getting on with it. That long throw leading Moran's goal is pretty much an assist imo.
