I've never known a team have so many cases of sickness, we've had multiple cases in just first few weeks of the season where players have been unavailable due to a "bug" 

My experience in business is when things are good everyone is there and wants to be involved, but when things start going wrong people go missing, something isn't right behind the scenes

My experience in work is that when a couple of people have a bug or virus, if you work in a close proximity environment others can catch it quickly.

No it's not normal 

"Downes has previously been forced to miss games with illness, and Ross Stewart pulled out of the squad against Northampton during the warm-up back in August.

Tom Fellows came on against Bristol City on Tuesday evening, despite feeling rough, while Damion Downs did not travel to Ipswich earlier this season due to illness.

Asked why Southampton have suffered with so much illness during this campaign, Still added: "I'd love to give you an answer to that.

"I'd love to have a doctor's degree and understand it, but I'll be honest with you, I don't at all. But it is a recurring theme, and it's something that we need to fix"

I think it's a lot easier to fake a muscle injury or the like as opposed to some kind of sickness, so it probably is legit on this occasion.

That said, of them certainly should feel sick after yesterday

You can’t fool a scan for a muscle injury , and I was a master at pretending I was ill to get off school.

Probably COVID or Flu, they are rampant in the country at the moment. Players are often in close proximity so that's no surprise. Any form of respiratory infection is going to wipe out a pro athlete.

It happens but with such a big squad, it should be easily managed.

Not anticipating this issue, and getting Aribo/Matsuki on the bench ready to cover is poor management imo.

The two questions for me are:

- When Jander and Robinson were named as illness doubts but were still going to travel were they then separated from the rest of the squad to stop others i.e Flyn  Downes from catching it?

- Given the above why the hell were Aribo/Matsuki not asked to travel up with the squad to provide cover? Additionally, given their lack of football why wasnt one or both down to play for the U21s anyway?

To end up in a crucial game with a player who is miles away from the first team squad coming on after being sat in a taxi for 2 hours prior to kick off is just awful planning.

Will still clearly never chooses the send the player home option in football manager when illness strikes

Or Sesay who played pre season and did pretty well yet nowhere near squad and we take Bragg

Sesay was also in Leicester and actually scored for u21s , could have shared the cab!

Aribo still one of our highest paid players 

None of it makes any sense

Could br saving getting injured before transfer window in Jan. Lots of player need to avoid playing if agents calling.

On this note, at what point can we just sack off Downes? If I had as many sick days as he did in my job, I'd have been out of the door last week.

The guy is a big, big, big part of the toxic rot in this club.

Yeah there's definitely more to it with him than just feeling a bit poorly, since he tried to force a move to Ipswich he's hardly played. 

Lack of leadership and authority within the club leaves us with high earning players never actually playing, I know Aribo isn't illness but that also requires some explanation,  I believe he's still one of our highest paid

Which is another damning verdict on SR - no way an experienced manager like Cooper would have tolerated that interference. Let alone the likes of Warnock 10-15 years ago. First team managers are meant to be first team managers.

Added to the cryptic comments on Solent post-match (didn’t hear it but others did) about Spors complaining of regular interference in his role and obvious who it is despite having ‘stepped back’.

Agreed. I’ve said before that if he or Stewart were with me they’d be on a fitness to work plan, to determine whether this job is for them.

That would depend on whether or not he has some sort of underlying health issue, which we the public don’t now about.

I haven’t seen many other teams having so much lately, perhaps it’s Southampton flu.
