um pahars Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 500 max as it neared the stadium. How many of those were just your average fan merging in as they walked to the stadium. We were at the back of the march and when we got going and entered Hannover Buildings, the main body was already at the roundabout by Debenhams. When we entered Hoglands Park, the front was already in Kingsway. And when we got into Kingsway, the main body were already in Old Northam Road. A very well mannered and well attended march with fans of all ages (and their pets) taking part. Speaking to one of the senior officers as we got into Kingsway, he commented on how well behaved and sensible the marchers were and estimated abot 1,500. There were more than sometimes go to watch Hampshire. Those that took part today should be proud of their efforts and conduct.
Gorgiesaint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Well done to everyone concerned with todays march, great to hear so many turned out & behaved in the way Southampton fans usually do. St Marco Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Was a great turn out. The thing that made me proud is that it was peaceful and was a complete mix of people across the south. The last few weeks we have had forum warriors claiming only a few would turn up, only chavs will turn up, no media would be there and so on. So it sticks 2 fingers up at those people who feel they must have acomplished so much sitting on their ass behind their keyboard doing nothing. The ironic thing is i spoke to one of the policeman who told me if he was not on duty he would of been marching along with us anyway. The other thing people can be proud of is that the energy from the crowd helped raise the atmosphere in the ground. Which goes against those saying it would have a negative efect. Minsk Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 It is great to hear there was such a good turn out and that it was trouble free. Well done to all involved! Which goes against those saying it would have a negative efect. Which is exactly what I said prior to the match. Anyone who can remember the Branfoot protests will remember that those protests actually galvanised the supporters who really got behind the team. Supporting the team and protesting against the Board are not mutually exclusive.

voteforpedro Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Definately 1,000+ of us as we marched from the bargate to the stadium, we must have stretch back a few hundred metres. The reason nobody can give an accurate estimate of numbers is because at no point was it possible to see both the front and back of the march
Pilchards Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 That march turn out so superb. I took my 10 year old and my 6 year old as they know how much I love my club. Anyway we started the march at the front and ended up at the very back thanks to bumping into to someone and my younger daughter not seeing a lampost near the ground. Easily in the region of 1500 fans and well done to everyone of them. Those that said it would be a major let down can go and stick your words right up your arse. StuRomseySaint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Hands up... proved me wrong. Fair play to all of you that went, seen a couple of video clips and looked like a good mix of fans, and so far have not seen a clip of mongs waving at cameras etc.... so will look good in the media. I am not sure it will be effective... but time will tell, I've been wrong once this week.
Norm Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 1000+ were in the march, without doubt.
StuRomseySaint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Oh.... and by the way, the most effective way imo would be to do the march again.... but have the starting point outside reception 15 minutes before kick-off and do the march in reverse, ending up back in the town centre..... or even better a big pub like the square for about 3pm. Would only need to do that once or twice before change is forced upon the current regime.
I 8 Skates Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Just got back. I was present on the protest march with my father in law. I would say well over 1000 supporters possibly more. We were right in the middle and when we turned off the dual carriage way people were still coming out of the park!!! Extremely well organised, the point was put accross very well, hats off to the nippers that organised it and also to all those that attended. Well done. How many of those were just your average fan merging in as they walked to the stadium. 500 more than the pro Lowe march attracted. Wes Tender Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 A really great event. I'd have estimated the 1500 that the Policeman said. It was an orderly march with a good cross section of fans. Although the curtains of the boardroom were closed, there was a lot of noise made on the apron outside and they can't have failed to hear inside. It was one in the eye for Nineteen Canteen / Sundance and his ridiculous assertion that only 200 would turn up and that they would be just the chav element. Also nonsense that the demonstration would affect the atmoshere in the stadium. The Northam particularly were brilliant at the match.
NickG Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Photos show good turn out, good support during the game and decent performance. Glad to see no in-fighting between fans this time. What was the second protect after the game about? Was about 30 to 40 crowded around tv camera outside the front entrance singing anti-lowe songs -looked very set up for the camera, or an alternative protest with embarassing turn out! Walked the last mile amongst the group, all very civilised compared to those muppets at the Doncaster game. How many exactly is always difficult to say, especially when you get near the stadium, but a good number. I don't share the views as I don't believe things are that simple, but well done for expressing your own views without intimidating or bullying others. Nexstar Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Thought it was a great turnout and very well organised. Must have been around 1,500 on the march to the ground with a good atmosphere Didn't see if anything happened outside itchen afterwards as the police blocked it off for northam fans and i had to get the bus. Here are my pictures: So a big well done to everyone who turned out and a great atmosphere to get behind the team for 90 minutes during the game. StuRomseySaint Posted 31 January, 2009 Share Posted 31 January, 2009 Oh, by the way, I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but today is the last day of the duck hunting season ( seriously ), is this where Lowe was today and the 'Ski Trip' was just a cover-up to save people from having even more of a pop at him? And wan't an apt day to have the 'duck off Lowe' banner out today! I hope the press take not of this, could make for a good story tommorow and saves them from doing their research!
