Easy to look at the weird GK sub on that game, but fuck me that first pen was awful, especially from one of your most experienced players. Thought he played well otherwise.

The young lad was always going to miss, he didn't look at the keeper/goal once we noticed during the whole penalty routine.

Doesn't matter anyway. Sides like Australia have no place beyond the group stages of the WC. Back to 32 teams, top 2 in 8 groups of 4 to progress. Some of these games are an embarrassment.

Just read on the Beeb that no asian zone side has ever won a knock-out game outside of Asia. They're not football nations although Japan do at least try.

That was a horrendous thing to do--breaking the solidarity of the team in the last few minutes of extra time. Beach had an excellent game and was in the zone. Popovic should have stayed with the goalie who got the team to the verge of victory. Terrible decision.

So you’re not sat watching the Capo Verde game hoping that they can pull off a miracle? As was said in build up commentary, whatever happens, Capo Verde win. If they somehow get through what is probably their ‘final’ they’ll be celebs for life.

I'm not staying up to watch, no. Be nice if Cape Verde won, but almost certainly won't happen.

If it was Argentina v a top team (e.g. top 20 in the world) I'd have been more inclined to watch as a neutral.

No, if there are good goals i'll look at them on the rediffusion. Don't watch night games live.
