I remember the days when we used to smash non league teams 8,9,10-0 how standards have dropped.

Must be the altitude.

Got to take into account the heat, travel, threat of a storm,  60 games a season.

Think that’s testament to how much grassroots has been funded since the 90s.

Think he’s got the mentality to want to play on knowing he can just use his face to make saves instead.

So Peretz wrist in a cast, Jander down injured after 8 mins and immediately knew something was wrong, Azaz missing from the squad altogether. This is a worrying start to pre season!

Rest of them Not fit enough to last more than half a game.  VERY worrying

Far better in the good old days of The Alehouse when they’d go somewhere and someone would spu their guts up after being under the guidance of Big Ron and the senior pros the night before on the piss.

Downs to get some game time one positive at least

For context, I think the skates lost 2-0 to Aldershot the other night. No idea what the team was though.

A strong West Ham side with Bowen, KWP and the strikers they signed in January for £20m+ each drew 1-1 with Southend today, now managed by Kieron Dyer. JWP got 25 minutes.

Full international is our Downs. Exiting prospect. Exciting I mean.

Introduce him slowly between now and the closure of the transfer window. A couple of goals pre-season and he’ll be at Chelsea before end of August.

Trademark Downs swing and a miss before Akachukwu saved his blushes.

It takes years of practice to build the confidence to perfect a dummy like that. You can’t coach it, it’s intuitive.

Akachukwu the brightest of the academy lads for me tonight. Last summer it was Sesay and he went on to do nothing in the season. Surprised Sillah Dibaga hasn't been involved, he looked good in the cup game last season.

Brilliant dummy that, the obvious thing to do was shoot but he deceived the goal minder and the defensive back to give his team mate an easy conversion. Double D is back!

Akachukwu, Scienza, Fellows, Archer stood out...

Would agree with that. I thought Manning was decent second half too, but those four definitely stood out. Dobbin looked lively

Dibaga is/was badly injured

Fine. Until they turn round. Just looking at the clips on here and the backs look dreadful, very tacky.

So you'd assume Ramsdale and Bazunu (Hooray) are both off. Doesn't look like BBD's getting another chance either.

Bit different to last summer again, in that Will Still spoke about leaving players whose future lay elsewhere behind and then when the official tour squad was announced, pretty much everyone went. Ramsdale played in goal for us last summer, when he was off, whereas Eckert isn't wasting pre-season minutes on them.

Good movement from downs there, and he could have taken the shot but good awareness to dummy it and wheel away - think he should take the next one though just to get the fans onside again.  Could be a valuable addition this season.

Completely agree. Big words last summer, yet they all played, ridiculous. At least Tonda has the balls to make those calls now and not waste time.

I'm seriousness, I know the opposition was Eastleigh but I thought he showed good movement throughout and awareness.

However he fluffed that shot and earlier had a good bit didn't seem like he wanted to take the shot on.

Accept it's low level opponents but Saints looked quite decent in those highlights. There were some decent transitions and movement. Fellows and Archer looked lively.

Yeah, watched the stream earlier and thought the same as you. Probably the benefit of coming into preseason in the rare position (in recent years) of not being in a period of total upheaval with new coaching staff, a hugely bloated squad with numerous unhappy players and Saints looking to totally rebuild the squad
