Former Premier League referee Mike Dean says he used to set himself mini-challenges during matches "as a laugh".

Appearing on Jamie Vardy's podcast, Dean said he would see how long he could go without blowing his whistle, or stay inside the centre circle.

"We used to say 'we'll kick off now. Right, see how long we can go without blowing a whistle'," Dean said.

"I've done that a few times in the Premier League, before VAR obviously - went 20, 25 minutes without blowing a whistle.

That's rather interesting. I wonder if he was indulging in one of his little mini games whilst being a part of the refereeing in both 9-nils we suffered.

A disgrace of a person, I recall when he said he didnt call a VAR decision as he didnt want to show up his friend Taylor. Why hes allowed to be on Sky is amazing, hopefully hese revelations get him fired

Retired which is why he feels he can say it. Other former referees calling his stories bullshit.

Feel sorry for any Tranmere fans having to sit next to him when he’s singing ‘the referee’s a wanker’ which he’s also admitted to in the past https://fanbanter.co.uk/referee-mike-dean-admits-calling-officials-wankers-while-watching-tranmere/

Rarely has a huge ego been so unwarranted.

I can believe it. A friend used to know Graham Poll who was apparently open about deliberately making controversial decisions in order to put himself in the spotlight and further his career.
