Wonder if Tonda will try to fit jwp Downes and Jander into one team if they are all fit and firing. No doubt they are all in our top eleven best players.

Peretz

Bree - Wood or Abbott - Schlot - Manning

JWP - Downes - Jander

Azaz - Scienza

Larin

Our best 11 players... That would work, wouldn't it...?

I think we play like last season - enjoy having quality with fresh legs to bring on. Means Tonda will be less tempted to bring on a third CB and surrender the initiative.

I hope the lack of competition for Brees place isn't making him complacent. Thought other than the assist he had a poor game tonight and hasn't looked the same this season so far.

I thought he was decent enough,  good overlaps with Fellows first half. If anything he has more competition this season because not only do we have Roerslev (whom I'm assuming is still alive somewhere) but also Abbott and even JWP if needed.

Not going to lie I would love to see that. Probably unbalanced and see us get spanked but it would be exciting.

contraversial:  if we must play Edozie, shouldn't he play on the right?

Thought him and Mubama actually did what we needed them to do tonight.

Maybe in some away games but too defensive against a lot of teams in this league

Being able to bring on

Jwp/jander

Matsuki/fellows

Abbott/woods

Would at least be an improvement on Dobbin (so far), Bragg, Mubama.

Well, that was enjoyable. Three great goals, and for all their possession we didn't really let them create anything of note from open play. Their penalty was soft.

Schlotterbeck, Azaz, Leo and Larin were all fantastic tonight but wow, what a game from Downes. He was absolutely immense, I think that's one of the best games I've seen him have for us. He was everywhere, and provided a real attacking threat as well as winning everything. Really, really impressed by him tonight.

Need to keep it going with another home win on Saturday and then we'll be in a great position going into the break.

Well done boys

Is it too much to just enjoy putting 8 goals past the league leaders in consecutive home games without slagging a player who has been virtually faultless?!

He'll be delighted you've taken his bait though... ;)

Jwp has done remarkably well considering he's barely played for two years, is over 30 and was thrust into the team with little introductions or chance to bed in.

The reason for last year's second half charge was the strength or our squad. Not many teams have JWP as 2/3 CM.

if Schlotermisspesing was the replacement for Quarshie I dread to think how good our proposed replacement for THB would have been in this league.

Nope.

Jander being back just means we get to rotate our midfield more without dropping in quality.

JWP, Downes and Jander are all capable of transitioning into attacking midfielders when we're on the attack though? Just needs one of them to hold the No.6 role when we're in the ascendency, with the other two slotting into a more advanced No.8 position, and visa versa when we're needing to defend...?

That was a fun one to watch... 3 good goals, decent enough performance and happy fans. Lovely.
Doesn't hide that we're two first teamers short of near unstoppable but hey, let's stay positive...

I don't know if anyone mentioned it but we'd be top if we didn't have the minu......etc etc. 🍾🍾🍾😜

Overall whilst slightly inconsistent,  we've been decent this season. We lost to Watford through a worldie and a horrific miss by THB at the end, beat Millwall, Swansea and Stoke, got a decent draw with Brum too. Really the Lincoln game is the only one you could say perhaps we should have done better and that was down to some iffy subs by Tonda, but if we keep playing like tonight and Millwall we should be pushing for autos at least.

It does help that nobody has run away in the League yet with 18 points from the first 6 games available and so far nobody has more than 11. Obviously that could change tomorrow but this was always going to be an season where we will be playing catch up for a while.

I thought that too, I think he's the natural THB captain replacement and he seems to revel in it. Fair play.

I was explaining to my son in the ground that Stephens has done nothing "wrong" to Saints as he's been loyal for years and now he just needs to be a back up player, Downes should be captain.

I’m happy with the win but trying to claim that jwp has been virtually flawless is having a laugh.

He's been pretty good for a bloke who we paid 800k for, or made 29.2m on depending on your perspective,

Yeah I imagine that’ll be treated a bit like the Larin and Stewart rotation. 60/30 and 30/60 minutes every game.

Although JWP has clearly still got the legs to play every minute this season.

I see what you're saying but it also pushes Azaz wider when really he needs to be in the centre of the pitch for me.

Probably. He did say he was considering three in the middle at some point.

Might be him just putting out to confuse opponent manager.

I think Downes is starter with either JWP or Jander, giving good sub option

Decent result, feared the worst after Saturday which felt like a loss.

Schlotterbeck and Downes were different class tonight. Good to see the old Leo back again, and good to see Larin amongst the goals once more.

Negatives, what the fuck is going on with Peretz’ kicking? Also James Bree is having a very poor campaign compared to the high standards he set himself last season, that penalty was ridiculous and he got caught in possession a couple more times in dodgy areas, including just before our breakaway for the third.

Really hope we can get a result Saturday over one of our bogey sides.

Downes captain for me too. Heartbeat of the team. JWP, Schlotterbeck, the team has a lot of potential leaders all of a sudden.

Thought Azaz had another very good game for us including a superb goal. He really makes us tick and takes up clever positions which give our opponents problems. He is a vital component to the team.

Willing to eat a bit of humble pie as I thought JWP put in a great performance tonight. Nothing spectacular but he was always in the right place and kept things ticking over so the likes of Azaz and Leo could work their magic. Put in some good dead balls as well.

I'm still holding out hope that Dobbin can do something. He was obviously decent last year and 9 million is a heck of an amount so we must have seen something too. Him showing some form may be incredibly important for him but also to allow some of our other players to have a rest. At the moment we are too reliant on our first eleven to play the majority of minutes.
