RedWillie Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 Anyone else catch Beattie's reaction after scoring for Stoke yesterday...the usual 'SCUMMER,SCUMMER' chants at him from the blue few when waiting to take the penalty and then him running alongside them with his hands cupped to his ears and then screaming in delight...he still has a soft spot for us...!!! Fan The Flames Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 I thought his reaction was good, it certainly seemed a bit more intense but that could be a reaction to the chants rather than any anti-pompey/pro-Saints feelings.
Andy_Porter Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 He definatly enjoyed scoring that penalty, loved the reaction on MOTD.

Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 After he left us he's been so under-rated. He really was a first class striker for us, far more cultured than people give him credit for. Personally, for me he's a bit of a legend. Beats, Beats, Beats. Bailey Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 Still got alot of time for Beattie. I think he's a top quality striker and he's proving at Stoke that he can still cut it in The Prem. Thought his celebrations yesterday were brilliant too. Such a good penalty taker as well. What I'd give to have him back now!
redorwhitelion Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 A lot of people within the game seem to regard him as a one dimensional old-fashioned targetman, but he's always had quite a bit more than that. Perhaps not enough to take him to the very top, but certainly enough to play in a team in the top half of the Prem. You just have to look at his free-kicks to see he's not just a burly aerial threat. Having made his name at Saints, played his best football at St Mary's, ****ged the local female population and scored a couple of derby goals I can only imagine he still has a soft spot for Saints and enjoyed his brace yesterday afternoon! Robsk II Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 Of course he was more than a target man. Anyone who saw 'that' season saw a few special goals, and a generally consistent level of good goals. Remember the one where he took a shot off the toes of.. I think Philips? What a finish. Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 Genuine question. Has Beattie ever missed a penalty? I can't remember one. At one stage I think we went through a run where we hadn't missed a penalty in 7 years or something like that (Jim Magilton was the last I think). SFKA South Woodford Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 I saw it on football first last night, and you could see him say 'have that you skate bastar*s' just as he was running over to them with his hand cupped to his ear. Loved his reaction. As we all know, if he'd stayed rather than left for Everton, we would have stayed up that season. He and Kenwyne have always been under rated, especially by some Saints fans. fareham saint phil Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 Beattie does still have a soft spot for us and has said that on many occasions, and it seems hes going to get into trouble for his celebration of "have that you skate ba5tard", so the blue few shouting scummer scummer all day must have been so upset that apparantly a few complained to police what a shame!!!!! Shame they didn't hang on or he had scored a hat-trick that would have made yesterday even better
Chorlton Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 I think he is a very good forward who as someone as said, has been under-rated since he left us. think he will do well at Stoke as they will play to his strengths. I also think he was a fantastic defender for us, who helped out as the first line of defence (ably assisted by brett), and was very good when he came back to help out (freak goal at Derby apart!) Seems a top bloke as well, bar a few mistakes made a few years back

Chez Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 Reminded me of the first SMS drby game with the cupping of the ear celebration. Great to see tapered only by the thought that we are a long way from seeing that sort of thing (Premiership relegation battle). never seen him miss a penalty and never seen a keeper even get close either, they nearly alway are top corner or into the inside netting. Greenridge Posted 22 February, 2009 Share Posted 22 February, 2009 In todays transfer climate that has to be considered a great buy for Stoke, something like 2.5m rising to 3.5m depending on maintaining Prem status I think.
