what will happen to him at the end of this season will he return to Saints if we still have a club left or will we be able to sell him to keep us afloat.

100K maximum, Swansea won't give any more. They knew in January we were desperate for money, probably offered 200K (despite protests that they offered 500K,if they had we'd have taken it,we now know that) He'll probably be back here with his n-years contract, same as Rasiak and Saganowski to continue to

drag us down forever. We'll probably have to sell McGoldrick,Surman and perhaps even James to pay for the old lags.

We'll if i remember right Lowe gave him a new 3 year deal soon as he took over. Some people said it was an 8k a week deal or something because supposedly other teams were trying to sign him? Wasen't he out of contract at that point?

If thats true then he will be gone if we get a buyer with no money. But i think even regardless of that Dyer is a CCC player. He has done very we'll at Swansea. So i would expect him to leave. Maybe has a relegation release clause or something.

He might not be the best, but he's still 10 times the player Ryan Smith is.

If we could afford to give Dyer a contract then surely we could afford to pay his wages instead of Smith's??

No, gates dropped remember. Plus we didn't shift Skacel or Rasiak or Saganowski for money. Rupert probably banked on that, he's always been so "successful" in selling players to North London yobbos and all that.Selling Deano went to his head, he thought you could sell any old pile of crap to anyone provided you made it look as if you didn't want to. Why he even got 6 million for Beattie.

He should not go for anything less than 1 million. That is what we would have to pay to replace him. Simple. Lets stop being a charity to other clubs and say that if you have a contract and other clubs want you, then they are gonna have to pay a premium.

No holds barred!

Is the fact we are in Administration and all of our assets are up for sale lost on you? If there was not a transfer window then half of hour squad would be out the door already!

What has eluded him is that dyer has been on loan most of this season and no-one has come forward to buy him. Kids like him are two a penny in English Football nowadays. Erratic and troublesome. £1 million is a lot of money, easy to say and write, hard to find, don't forget the club is right up sh*t creek because we couldn't find about 100K last month.

According to various Swansea sites, they seem to think £500k has been pretty much agreed

no whatever they say it isn't right. We wanted 500K, they weren't in any hurry to pay it. They had the rest of the season anyway and knew damn well we'd be in financial sh*t street a couple of months down the line.Probably offered 250K down with some performance related stuff tacked on.I'm sure we'd have taken 500K straight up.

Err...yeah. And just because we are in admin does not mean that there is a quick fire sale. Window or not. The job of the admin team is to find a buyer for the club in it's current state. Only IF a buyer can not be found then the fire sale starts.

But his contract does still lie with Saints and if there is a new owner place by the end of this/beginning of next season then he will still be Saints player. No player can be sold until the end of the season anyway (League rules) in which we will know more about who owns us or even if there will be an us.

Ift here is no us then all contracts will be cancelled anyway.

So it makes all points er..pointless.

We are a Charity to other clubs.

Just take a look around the prem. and how many of our former players are doing the business elsewhere and bought in most cases, for below their true value.

We have been a ****** poor run club for a good few years, seemily run for the benefit of other clubs and a handful of incompetent fools like lowe, cowen and askham.(all roads lead to those individuals and their tenure at our club)

Makes my blood boil.

  • 12 years later...

Was googling him randomly recently, surprised to find he was without a club.

a player I was really excited about when I first saw him and was really disappointed it all went so pear shaped here of his own making and Swansea ended up benefitting and getting that finished premier league product for a number of years.

Reckon it could have been different for him had he come into the first team in the Liebherr/Adkins era, had a lot of attributes and potential but like a lot of our youth players around that time suffered from the fact they were thrown in at the deep end by Lowe/Poortvliet/Wotte. Those 2 seasons of fighting relegation in the Championship and then going down with a squad full of youth team players - bar a handful of seniors - probably damaged a lot of them for most of their careers.

Quite right.  He turned into a very good player though - particularly at Swansea under that Belgian Manager whose name escapes me.   For some reason I always remember the goal he scored for us against Watford at Vicarage Road.

Had a look at the youth products careers after leaving us, some I had forgotten about.

Andrew Surman was obviously the standout star of the youth graduates at the time. Didn't realise there was only a year between himself and Adam Lallana given their different levels of development at the time. Only played Premier League/Championship since leaving us, until last year when he dropped down to League One at 33 with MK Dons.

Adam Lallana, obvious. Went up the leagues with us and then retired.

Nathan Dyer, obvious, robbed from the skates, never played below Championship level, seven Premier League seasons and a winners medal.

David McGoldrick, despite being nicknamed McGoaldrought, he's spent 11 seasons in the Championship post us, two League One loans and two Premier League seasons.

Simon Gillett, one I had forgotten about, in that he had a good career. Four Championship seasons with Doncaster and Nottingham Forest and then three League One and a League Two. Retired five years ago at 30.

Lloyd James, unsurprisingly never played at Championship level again. Five League One seasons, five in League Two. Now at Bath City in the National League South.

Olly Lancashire, again, unsurprisingly never played at Championship level after 2008-09. Six League One, six League Two. Now a Premier League player.

Jake Thomson. Knob. Again, never played Championship football again. Only made 46 league appearances across League One and Two before dropping into non-Legaue. Now at F.C Horndean at 32. Was capped twice by Trinidad and Tobago, though.

Joseph Mills. Did play Championship football again! With Doncaster, Reading and Burnley. Mostly played in League One, though. Now at Northampton in League Two at 31. Once scored against Ajax, but that was with us.

Jamie White, prolific scorer for the academy team and was named the 2006-07 academy player of the year, but it never worked out for him here. Dropped right down to Winchester City, where he couldn't stop scoring, carried the form to Salisbury City and eventually earnt a move back up to Bristol Rovers, but nothing happened for him there. Now in the Hampshire Premier League at 31.

Matthew Paterson. Never played in the Championship after us, was part of the Lee Barnard deal and did score eight goals for Southend. But, mainly a Non-League player. Now at Gosport Borough at 31 with Oxlade-Chamberlain's brother.

Oscar Gobern. The legendary tackle will never be forgotten. But, one thing I did forget was that he spent three seasons in the Championship with Huddersfield after us and another one in the second tier with QPR. Without a club now, but last played for Dover Athletic in the National League at 30.

Lastly, Kayne McLaggon. One, I personally thought would be a good player. But, he dropped right down to Non-League before playing for Welsh semi-professional sides since 2013. Now at hometown side Barry United at 30.

So, there's a mix of careers for those who made an appearance for us in that terrible season. Most weren't good enough for the Championship, but a League One/Two career is still good to bring through.

Fantastic write up.

I remember Joseph Mills also played a few years in the Australian A-League.

Simon Gillet I thought would’ve been one of those players we retained after the Leibherr takeover, shame his career never took off. He was the best of a bad bunch at that time.

Matt Paterson, was poor for us, and having watched him play non-league for the last few years, even that level I’d say is too much for him. Would be excellent at stacking supermarket shelves.

Jake Thomson - why was he a knob?
