Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
the saint in winchester replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
Should have sold him for anything above £15M. And kept Yoshida instead. -
Imagine having a Merc in the garage but commuting to work in an eco car because it gives better fuel consumption. Then your neighbour says "come on mate, let me have the Merc off you for free as you're not driving it". You'd be prepared to accept market value for it, maybe, but give it to him for free? I think not. This seems to be the line Celtic are adopting. "You're not playing him, so he's worthless to you. Give him to us for free" (Some even saying give the player some money as well.) I agree with above. If Celtic don't want to pay market value, then bring him and back to sell to highest bidder (if offer acceptable) or retain. Can't see why we should give him away.

A reminder this is supposed to be Video Assisting the Referee (VAR) not Video Replacing Referee (VRR). Pitch referees do seem to be leaving it to the Video Technician to make decisions now. "Bottling it" to quote Garth Crooks. If the pitch ref isn't prepared to take the decisions himself, then they're little point in him being on the pitch. May as well give the whistle and loud speaker to the Video Technician. I had been expecting the pitch ref to use the monitor pitchside to see contentious decisions played back, and then that ref to make the decisions HIMSELF. Can we just have that, not the man in the studio talking in the ref's ear and making the decision for him?

I love (as in 'balk at') all this talk of "the club will do everything in their power to turn the loan into a permanent deal". Everything except pay the fee that we are asking in order to facilitate that wish of theirs.

It's distasteful and inappropriate language even for the Lounge. How about you just say "I find Pritti Patel to be an attractive lady". Then I can say "and so do I." The chancellor's wife is also attractive in both a financial and artistic way. I also like Ranvir Singh on ITV News. But keep the mouse in the hole, fella. Treat ladies with respect, me old fruit.

Simple yes or no...Lallana on a free in the summer?
the saint in winchester replied to SNSUN's topic in The Saints
I think that's the point of the thread, Tajjuk. Press rumours that we are interested (may just be clickbait) yet the fanbase emphatically turn their nose up. -
I saw it too. Amal is easy on the eye, hope to see more of her. Um, ex-Saint? Can't find evidence of that online and I have supported Saints 50 years, so remind me?

Celebs airing their political messages
the saint in winchester replied to OldNick's topic in The Lounge
Sad isn't it, but it does seem social media has that hold on people. Jesy Nelson was the Little Minx referred to above, Caroline Flack and now Billie Eilish burdened by feelings of abuse. They used to say "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me." That's no longer the case. -

Yes. But it won't happen. His wage expectation would be out of our budget, so yes, Wet Spam to accommodate him. -
Guys, be careful what you write on here. MSN are reading what we write and telling the world. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/newsbirmingham/championship-standard-at-best-what-southampton-fans-really-think-of-aston-villa/ar-BB109pfa?ocid=spartandhp Direct quotes from this thread. You heard Dycke say the program notes wound up Burnley players. Now our boasting could fuel Villa.

Mario Kempes Licka, now 37, and still playing in the Czech league. I have no update on Mrs Licker however.

Impact of poor home form on fans
the saint in winchester replied to Nordic Saint's topic in The Saints
I was disappointed with Ralph's comments, if indeed they were Ralph's literal words. We've been here before. I remember the Dutch Duo (Poortvliet and Wotte) saying home fans put the team under too much pressure to do well. I don't scream at the players or shout abuse. I'm happy to internalise my frustration but I do cheer and celebrate good play. So I'm happy to not renew my season ticket next season, and if the club would like to refund me £200 now, I'll not darken their doorstep again this season too. The shouts from others to get it forward are based on our tendency to fancy-dan around at the back and concede. We/they just want the ball away from danger. Other teams are simply defending away from home and we don't seem to have the creativity to break them down. Instead passing around midfield and recycling from the back. We don't see Liverpool having that issue, but we don't have their creativity. -
Is it normal to get a deep cut from a momentary tap from studs? Or was Sessegnon wearing blades? #EdwardScissorfeet

Spurs 3-2 Saints - FA Cup Reaction
the saint in winchester replied to ALWAYS_SFC's topic in The Saints
My comment was focused only on the finish, not the build up. I think even a pub player would have (1) taken the shot with his right foot, his preferred foot rather than try to move it to his weaker foot and then issue a tame shot straight at the keeper, and (2) lifted it over the keeper rather than blast it. But I do agree his movement to get in those positions is quality. Just want him to finish with quality when he gets in them. Imagine how many goals he would have if his shot conversion rate was better. Ingsy is a mobile striker, going deep to collect the ball, going left and right. He's not a fox in the box that buries everything. That's all I was saying. His goal was exceptional finishing though, after am amazing run from Redmond. -

Overall review. We dominated but lost due to : * poor finishing from Ings first half. Should have scored 2 in the first half. A pub league player would have put them away. * ref dishing out yellows to key players (was it 3 in 10 mins?) causing them to hold back * we looked nervous at 2-1 up and couldn't close out the game safely * Son is a diving git that VAR should have picked up -

Completely agree. So, I read independent review comments (ie non Saints fans) and their line of argument seems to be that Gunn's foot caused Son to take evasive action (jumping) causing him to land awkwardly. That if Gunn hadn't been there Son wouldn't have jumped/dived. It's not a view I share. Prior to last night, I thought Son was an honourable player. Last night I saw two reasons to reverse my opinion - the imaginary card brandishing and then the dive. He should be ashamed of himself. -
So we're expecting Valerie at RB tomorrow? Over WP1 and WP2?

Spurs interested in PEH according to SSN
the saint in winchester replied to Behind Enemy Lines's topic in The Saints
Their interest is for the summer. We now have Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton all putting in a note of interest. And we thought no other top club would want our players. We don't need to decide on PEH now, that's one for the summer. We seem to have decided Cedric can go (logically) and we have a decision to take over Vesta. Adams is clearly staying put. -
January Transfer Window - 2020 Edition
the saint in winchester replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
It's YAN Valery, so please use the initials YV for Valery, then we don't get confused. -
So we don't actually need an option to buy clause, as he is a free agent in June? In that case, we are doing well if we can get £5M for Cedric as he is similarly in his dotage with us.

Would explain why we are reportedly interested in both KWP now and Frimpong in the summer. -

I would imagine that's what the negotiation is about. We will want the option to be our call ie. if he's good, we buy him, but if he's not them we send him back. Spurs will not want to offer us that. They will want us to have a compulsory purchase agreement or it to be their option whether to sell or not. We have said we don't want to take a player on loan, develop him, and then the owning club take him back. If it's a loan with a compulsory purchase term, then we may as well just pay in full now. We don't yet know if it's our option to buy or Spurs option to sell or keep.
