Love the Sky Sports 'Live' Commentary: Final comment: 90 Leyton Orient are in control of the match. Key player: Lee Barnard WTF is all that about....!! lol

Sounds like we rode our luck a bit, 2 offside goals, hitting the post, everything else went our way in the other games as well. Mind you, away win, 3 points and a clean sh*t to boot - well happy.....

Shooting on/near HMS Astute alongside in Southampton
Micky replied to doubleonothing's topic in The Lounge
So in effect having an armed guard on board really appears pretty unecessary really. I have worked on many Military bases both at home and operationally, and while there is obviously a need to have armed guards, I cannot recall any instances where the weapon was loaded while inside a base or 'safe' building. Take normal barrack guards for instance - they too patrol with loaded (made safe) weapons, but on completion of their duty they report to an unloading bay, are met by a guard commander who supervises the safe unloading of the weapon, and who takes the loaded magazine from the guard before he enters the guardroom - hence no loaded weapon in a confined space. I have seen accidents occur in such situations, where weapons have been discharged in building (one a 'charlie g'...!) but these were caused by negligence and not observing the correct procedures. Don't get me wrong - if somebody wants to harm somebody else and they have access to weapons and ammunition, then it's likely that they will find a way. I just find it strange that a loaded SA80, basically an infantry weapon with an operational range of 300 metres is deemed necessary inside a nuclear submarine. -

Tragic incident, isn't the first and probably wont be the last time that this sort of shooting takes place - but the fact that the men were meant to be comrades makes it all the harder to understand. It sounds as though it was a calculated attack though, had the guy selected automatic instead of single shots, he could have emptied the full mag in under 5 seconds. In the confines of the Ops Room of a submarine that would have been devestating and many more could have been killed or injured. Don't know what level of weapons control is exercised on Navy subs, but suspect that procedures could well be reviewed in light of this. Is there really any need to carry a loaded weapon on board whilst docked in Southampton, who knows. Sad incident for all concerned really. -
Although probably posted in a flippant manner, you actually raise quite a good point. I have worked in numerous environments where mobile phones are banned and as such have had to surrender them at the company reception or leave them in the car. I have attended business meetings between different opposing parties where mobiles were strictly banned for fear of recording or relaying information for 3rd parties. I'm sure others have been subjected to similar measures in their working role as well. The point being - many professional companies deal with the issue of mobile phones and ban them from thier premises, thus we are not allowed to take them to work - yet our schools cannot ban our children from bringing them to their place of education, or control them once they are there - madness.

Couldn't agree more - I love my kids, but know that they are no angels. I have recently had issues with their schooling and have met with both the Headmaster and teacher to try to work towards a solution - both were very honest and helpful. Parents need to work in partnership with the education staff if they want their children to reach their full potential, as is borne out in your sons case. My first comment on this thread was along the lines of 'giving the schools back to the teachers', I stand by that, but we have an awful long way to go if this where we currently are: http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Teachers-Strike-Darwen-Vale-High-School-Staff-Walk-Out-Over-Violence-And-Threats-By-Pupils/Article/201104115967755?lpos=UK_News_First_UK_News_Article_Teaser_Region_0&lid=ARTICLE_15967755_Teachers_Strike%3A_Darwen_Vale_High_School_Staff_Walk_Out_Over_Violence_And_Threats_By_Pupils Quite sad, shocking and disturbing really.

The sash has served it's purpose, feel privilidged that you were around to wear it on our 125th anniversary, back to the closet with it now in preparation for those lucky folk who will don it on our 250th. Hail - the return of red and white stripes.

Gotta hand it to the guy, there are an awful lot of players who drop down a division or two in their twilight years and basically 'coast' - doing just enough. But, from what I've read, Radhi seems to be doing it week in and week out now. Perhaps he wants one more shot at glory and promotion would be a real bonus for him at his age - hope he achieves it. Top man. (Clean sh*t - my I larfed...!!!)

This. Coupled with the fact that the amount of fouls probably tells you something about the amount of challenges that we are making during the game, which in turn would point to a high workrate level. It would also indicate that we are making the challenges in the 'right areas' of the pitch as well.

I think that the only assumption that I can make is that if we have had the most amount of shots on target for all 4 divisions, surely it should follow that we should have scored the most goals in all 4 divisions as well. If not - it would point to the fact that our 'finishing' is not a good as some others.

I based my view on what was written on the match thread and a 10 word post from somebody at the match. That is why I use the forum - in order to try to guage (from afar) how we are doing.

Well said that man, it's time to give the classroom back to the teachers. I hear far too many horror stories of the state of our schools today - it's frightening. I was both caned and slippered - geeze it hurt - but I bloody well deserved it every time it happened. It taught me a lesson in life, be more respectful of others, especially your elders and don't act like a tool. Had we had them in my day - I'm fairly sure that had a teacher thought that my mobile phone was distracting me from the lesson - then it would have been confiscated, placed on a bench, hit with a hammer and returned in a bag. There is an awful lot to be said for 'old school' teaching and I take my hat off to you for supporting your childrens teachers, even when disciplining your own.

That was me being negative - we were two nil down, at home (allegedly in a 'must win' game). I don't have radio solent, so have to rely on this forum alone to bouy me - somebody at the game posted that the players looked lathargic and uninterested and that it was shyte. Therefore I reserve the right to be bloody negative - any fan would be - it sounded like a horror show. How many on here would really have put any money on us turning it around - honestly. Yes I was negative - I apologise - I am a negative ****. Mindy you - Deppo is still a mong (sometimes).

Deppo - you are being a mong.
