stevegrant Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 This round, like the first round, is seeded, based on last season's league position. Even though there are three games still to be played in the first round, the seedings are already confirmed as all six of the teams still to play would be unseeded regardless. Seeded Teams Birmingham Blackburn Bolton Burnley Hull Man City Portsmouth Stoke Sunderland Tottenham West Ham Wigan Wolves Newcastle Middlesbrough West Brom Reading Preston Cardiff Swansea Ipswich Bristol City QPR Sheff Weds Watford Unseeded Teams Doncaster Crystal Palace Blackpool Coventry/Hartlepool Forest/Bradford Barnsley Norwich Saints Macclesfield/Leicester Peterborough Leeds Millwall S****horpe Tranmere Southend Huddersfield Bristol Rovers Leyton Orient Swindon Carlisle Hereford Gillingham Rotherham Accrington Port Vale The draw is at 10.30pm on Sky Sports News. Saintjersey Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 There's only about 4 teams there which I fear we wouldn't be able to beat at home. Bring on all the rest, would love to play Pompey at home though.

Torres Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Couldn't really think of a better time to play Pompey Really? Not even a few years ago when we were demonstrably better than them? Or in a few years when we will be again? Both would be better times than now, when they'd cruise past us with ease.

Both would be better times than now, when they'd cruise past us with ease. In the real world i'd much prefer playing them in a couple of weeks, rather than last season when we were a division higher. If they are to enter admin within the next month then they aren't going to be adding players to their skeleton squad, morale will be at an all-time low and Paul Hart will be worried. I honestly believe with 2 or 3 solid signings we could beat them.

I'm sorry, but not matter how much crap they're in off the pitch, their "skeleton" squad would still have more than enough to see us off at the moment. Let's wait a while before we reassert our dominance.

You seem to be focusing on the fact that they are in the premier league for them being 'so' good. Their players are either ageing, fighting each other or looking for other clubs. SW11_Saint Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Couldn't really think of a better time to play Pompey, but wouldn't mind Spurs away. I think we're getting ahead of ourselves. We're not quite ready yet, and whatever their state, Pompey ARE a Premiership side. Pompey is the last draw I'd want - rather wait to meet them next year in the league, when we're on more of an even footing...
St Marco Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Probably the best time to play Pompey so would love that. A tie at home with the skates would be a sell out for sure. However that said i think i would like any top team we have not played for awhile. If we got one of the top four and they put out a gash side and we beat them would do wonders for the confidence of players and fans. Which in turn could see us really push on in this league. We are not going to win this cup, or any cup (except the Paint one perhaps) so would rather lose to one of the big names and have fun then lose to a **** team like Carlisle and be ****ed off. I'm afriad that despite all that, a side of: James, Finnan, Kaboul, Distin, Hreidarsson, Krankjar, Diop, Mokoena, Belhadj, Nugent, Piq/Kanu/Utaka up against Davis, Murty, Perry, Thomas, Harding, James, Wotton, Spiderman, Lallana, Lambert, Rasiak. ? They'd tear us a new one, I'm afraid. See the problem with Pompey and why a lot of bookies have them as down is simply because they are no longer a team. Krankjar has said he wont sign a new contract and wants out. Utaka thinks the club has conned him into staying as they promised new players etc. Kaboul, well he is a ****, Finnan limped off injured, Nugent had a fight with some of his team mates supposedly, Kanu is a free agent and in any case is waaay past it, he scored 1 league goal last year etc etc They are a team that has fallen apart and do not get on with each other by the sounds of it. Most of them looklike they want out or will be sold to keep the club going. Where as we have now got a new manager and new owner etc so confidence is high. A team spirit makes a massive difference, we know that only too well.

notnowcato Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 Pimpey could not afford to play their strongest XI in the Carling Cup with the risk of injuries to hinder their most important objective which will be Premiership survival. DS Posted 12 August, 2009 Share Posted 12 August, 2009 P**pey away please. Reason being: they'd be strong favourites, if we lose it won't be a surprise BUT if (and it would be a big if) we win they will never hear the end of it: losing to us at Notarf whilst two divisions higher.
