OS - Northam for more saints fans/moving seats update

Blimey...they didn't hang around and answers a few questions raised on here over the past few days.

Obviously our 'most' vocal fans are already set in their seats in the Northam which will now be further away from the away fans, will they try and move across? Hopefully the more lively types from the Itchen and Kingsland will fill these new seats.

Wonder what will happen with a max away contingent in the FA Cup?

That is a great news. Now can we kick to that end in the second half as well please?

...and...when the teams come out Saints should now turn right and warm up that end. Send the visitors away from their contingent, we need to make it as uncomfortable for them as possible - and that way we may finally get into the habit of attacking the Northam second half.

Attach, Attack, Attack-Attack-Attack...see, it's working already!

Well i know four fans who will not be renewing their season tickets ever again because of this move. After being chucked out of block 2 they are now being pushed elsewhere. They do not want to sit or even stand in the northam or kingsland corner. They like many have had season tickets since 2001 in the itchen corner. The facts are that the best atmosphere ever have been when Saints fans have been singing from either side of the away fans.

Instead of trying to increase the atmosphere the club have made it worse.

Titanic/deckchairs - you fill in the rest .

It doesn't really effect me so I don't actually care that much in all honesty but it's vaguely worrying that such woolly thinking has been allowed to permeate all the way up to the boardroom . I'd prefer the club concentrate its energies on what's going on inside our players heads rather than on fussing about where our fans happen to park their backsides - should they ever actually bother to sit in their seats that is .

A great move by the club. I'm astounded that there is a post stating that are some who protest that if they have to move elsewhere, they will not renew STs. Are they real fans, to throw their rattle out of their pram?

This is something that has been debated ever since the stadium opened and the vast majority were for it, but frustrated to be told that the Police wouldn't allow it.

Thanks again, Nicola and Markus for having an uncanny instinct for knowing what makes us happy (well, most of us, anyway)

From what they are saying, they are just re-opening blocks 36-39 in the Kingsland/Northam corner & closing blocks 4 & 5? Nothing about extending the Northam into the away section & moving the away fans round. Or have i got this wrong?

No you are right. Bad idea in my view. I think it is better to have two vocal areas surrounding away fans. Don't think it will improve atmosphere but may be wrong. Wonder if there is different underlying reason for this.

Ah, I may have misunderstood this then. I thought we were moving fans across behind the goal and moving away fans around the corner?

This, in my view, would be a good idea!!!!!

"Club Captain Kelvin Davis believes that the players being able to be able to run out of the tunnel and see the red and white army outnumbering away fans behind the goal will act as a huge psychological boost."

Erm, but Kelvin, you don't run out to that end either for the pre-match warm up or before the start of the game....

My guess is that it is to pave the way for the away section to be moved into Blocks 1-6 or so in the future, leaving the entire Northam end for home supporters. If so, this is a good move, even if it does inconvenience a lot of regular Itchen Corner residents.

If it was my seat they wanted to move, I'd be unhappy too, but if it is a way of organising the stands in such a way that the away fans are eventually moved to the side and away from behind the goal, this is a postive move.

FWIW - I always though it would be better to have the away fans where the original family section was - in the Kingsland/Chapel corner. The away coached coud use the Chapel Industrial estate and they could effectively close that corner off at the end of a game without affecting the pedestrian bridge over the railway too much. The stadium also has this area sectioned off with its own concourse (which is nice and small, perfect for away fans!) and they would be out of the line of sight of the TV gantry too.

Also having half of the Itchen shut now is going to look a bit weird.

it's not gonna be shut though! all the ST holders in those blocks will still be there, they are just encouraging the more 'casual' fans to go into the extended Northam (technically the Kingsland, but we won't dwell on that!)

i don't know how this will turn out, but time will tell, and i'm sure that if it doesn't have the desired effect then the club will either revert or come up with a new solution.

and as for the poster who said that he has 4 friends who won't renew their ST because of this.......WHY???? ST holders aren't being moved!!!! perhaps you (and ya mates) should read things thoroughly before getting on ya high horses!!!......

don't be silly, that requires intelligence, an ability to read, and gives them no excuse to moan! Most Saints fans these days can't cope like that!!!

great news imo, i always thought the view from blocks 3 and 4 was atrocious.

What a total crock of sh1t!!

There's has always been an opportunity to sit where ever you want to sit @ St. Mary's. There is a reason why a lot of the older element of Saints lads choose to sit in the Itchen North and it isn't because there is no room in the Northam! Leave things alone, by all means open more blocks in the Northam, hand out song sheets and put the words on the screen with the tune playing to help fans out, BUT all you'll do is stop fans attending if you force this sort of policy through! We have chosen to sit in the Itchen because we do not want the constant "stand up if you love the Saints" or "lets all have a disco"!!!!!!!!!!!

This does not affect me as I'm a season ticket holder, but what it does now do is alienate me, my friends and family. On evening games I like to take my 8 year old daughter as she can't make Saturday's because of dance commitments, obviously now I can't. This also applies to friends now as well, no longer can they CHOOSE to sit with me and my group.

Surely we should be encouraging more and more fans into St. Mary's not alienating fans even further.

Mr. Cortesse, you've been poorly advised!!

does it really matter? the stadium wraps all around the pitch and there are no pillars blocking your view anywhere. wherever you sit in the ground, you can still get what you paid for....a seat from which to see the game...

Great stuff - this is about making it more uncomfortable for the away fans - I hate seeing the Northam being filled mostly by away supporters, not to mention being out-sung. Although I don't sit there I always thought it a bad policy to move fans who had aid for a seat in the Northam to be moved just for a few more visitors - bloody imposition frankly and I would not be happy having to move from MY seat! This to me seems like a really good idea - now Kelv just needs to take up my idea of kicking towards the Northam in the 2nd half and its sorted. hehe

to potentionally have more singers in one place is good news..

if this meant that one day (in a higher division) the WHOLE northam was allocated to home fans and away fans had the itchen corner...(if that could be done) then again...good decision....

one thing they will have to do...for FA cup games (thinking in the future here) they the away allocation will go back into the northam due to the extra ticketing requirements

Has anyone else spotted the slight flaw in Kelvin Davis' comments:

It's an old cliché but supporters really can be the 12th man. I can remember playing in front of a full house for the Sheffield United game a few seasons ago, and the support that day was phenomenal.

Strangely, I remember Richard Wright playing in front of a full house at that game...

What a load of cr4p.

I don't want to sit with a load of kids, I don't want to sit behind the goal, I chose to sit in ther Itchen North for that rerason, what makes me less of a fan than someone who chooses to sit in the Kingsland or the chaple? They choose those stands for their own personal reason's as do I??

Ps. this has been debated since the ground opened???? When was that then my friend? Considering the ground was selling out every week it would seem unlikely that the club would be looking to stop selling matchday tickets for the itcehn corner!!

Here's a question for all you fans that think this is a great idea, if this is for the benifet of atmosphere why not close all matchday tickets for the entire ground only allowing tickets to be sold for the Northam and chaple, that way creating two solid home ends???

One more question for you, why closing the itchen north something that will make everyone happy, except us erational, selfish, rattle throwing fans that enjoy sitting in the itchen north??

There are plenty of other places for them to go.

Plenty of other places to go except the Itchen North!!!!!!

I thought the point of this exercise was to encourage fans that want to go in this corner for them to go to the Northam, now you say if we don't want go to the Northam then go somewhere else??????????????

St. Will if it makes no difference why change it???

You and I are obviously different types of fan (nothing wrong with that) I enjoy the banter with the away fans, I enjoy sitting with the 'older lad' I enjoy singing and cheering, this my friend you are not going to get in the Chaple or kingsland, no matter how good the view!

Please note, you have not answered my point about me not now being able to take my daughter to any more games this season, am I not being alienated???
