Wes Tender Posted 12 October, 2009 Share Posted 12 October, 2009 I'm blissfully happy at our situation, compared to what we had to endure in the previous decade or so. Trouble is, our situation of management as a club by true professionals makes for a boring scene on here. I can't believe that many on here would envy Notts County over us. S-Clarke Posted 12 October, 2009 Share Posted 12 October, 2009 Notts county fans should be very nervous. They just seem to be a middle eastern plaything, as soon as they get bored (which they will, should they hang around in L2/L1 for more than 3 years) then they'll be left hung and dry. He was sacked from Wycombe. But this is an incredibly good shout. Taylor is pretty good at getting promoted from L2 so would be a good appointment for them. red&white56 Posted 12 October, 2009 Share Posted 12 October, 2009 No - I like the way things are being run now. The info NC gave out at the recent fans forum was down-to-earth, and gave every impression of being totally sincere and honest. Let's keep it this way!! Saint Fan CaM Posted 12 October, 2009 Share Posted 12 October, 2009 Bit of a mess really - got to pity their fans...one minute their on their way to the Prem in 3 seasons and the next everything is falling to rat poo. I think the "quietly quietly catch a monkey" approach taken by Nicola and Markus is working a treat. I still have to almost pinch myself when I think how good the club set-up is now compared to how poor it had become under the previous regime. And we're in League One with Alan Pardew as our Manager! How fortunate are we?!?

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 12 October, 2009 Share Posted 12 October, 2009 Notts County sacked their manager after 3 games, we sacked ours after a relegation. True , but the OP seems to be extolling the benefits of unending stability when the record shows that their first action was to unseat an incumbent manager . I think NC was right to replace Wotte for what it's worth .

Cortese reviewed the wreckage that was our relegation and decided on the path to take, that meant replacing Wotte with Pardew. Notts C reviewed and decided to go with McParland appointing Sven over him. Twelve games later & despite only being 4 points off the top, McParland is sacked - there is a bit of a difference and no irony whatsoever. Imagine what would have happened with the Notts County board in charge at SMS!!!!
VectisSaint Posted 12 October, 2009 Share Posted 12 October, 2009 I wonder if Charlie would have been sacked if County had gone on to win 4 or 5-0 yesterday as it was looking against Torquay for the first 40 minutes. It was so one-sided to be not true, Poke kept the Gulls in the game several times. Problem is for Charlie that he couldn't change things once Torquay got a goal back and changed their approach. In the end Torquay should have won the game comfortably, Notts County had no answer and it was quite evident that the County management team were completely clueless on how to change things around when Plan A was matched by a manager with a bit of tactical nouse (Buckell). Reminded me of a certain Jock who used to manage us (not to mention some Dutch blokes as well).

No, no, no, we have been their (apart from the money of course) before; Lowe sacking managers like it was a national pass time. At long last we have a real future with a great owner and a good manager, lets keep it that way all the way back to the premiership.

FWIW my OP was intended to compare a big spending volatile regime with our much calmer approach ! As a matter of strategy NC stated that he wanted to start the whole process with a clean slate therefore Wotte was released and a whole new backroom team was built ! The sacking of McParland would be the equivalent of us sacking Pardew today, which I personally think would be ridiculous ! However, if it makes you feel better, I did not consider this point when I made the original post but even now I don't actually think it is relevant in the comparison ! saintbletch Posted 13 October, 2009 Share Posted 13 October, 2009 ...all of this and his team is sitting 'a lowly' 5th in the table. McParland quoted as being on £80K per year. So Sol Campbell would likely have earned more in pre-season before he fecked off than the manager would earn over the duration of his contract. And the Director of Football won't go near the manager's job - not even on a temporary basis. All that money being spent on a League Two club - it's like some sort of ugly genetically modified Frankensteinian experiment. And it's not necessary or helpful. It is a reasonable approach I think keep the old manager bring in a DOF who then sets up the club in the way he wants it run. Not certain what happens at St Mary's if a DOF is appointed could possibly cause problems. Your analogy is slightly wrong I think because Wotte was in a similar situation to McParland

Not certain what happens at St Mary's if a DOF is appointed could possibly cause problems. Your analogy is slightly wrong I think because Wotte was in a similar situation to McParland Why? At the fans forum AP clearly stated that he would be in favour of a DOF in certaing circumstances and gave the 53 agents calling him as an example. Did McParland get a team relegated....has McParland a managerial record compared to Uncle Albert from Only Fools and Horses....sunk everywhere he has been? Did McParland saddle his team with 7 of the worst loans and players a side has seen?

In most cases when a DOF comes in over a manager it causes problems I dont see why we need one really Pardew is unlikely to say it is a bad thing to have a DOF I would have thought. If a DOF is required I think it should be his responsibility to run football at the club and appoint the manager like Notts County may have done
