Lowe - one of the UK's worst ever chairmen?

Peter Ridsdale did some outstanding work in f::cking Leeds up the arse

Yes but at least Leeds lived the dream & had the memories of good football.

All we could enjoy was some rather dubious catering and the fastest growing radio station in er ... Southampton.

As it says on the tin. Can anyone think of a worse chairman than Lowe during his last year in office?? Is Lowe the Fred Godwin of football??

Lets play Nineteen Canteen at his own game.

Would love to but I'm too busy playing marbles at the other end of the playground....

Do we really need to have this pointless and boring debate again?

It wouldn't be so bad if the majority of people posting about it actually had some sort of idea what they are talking about.

The amount of people on here who throw accusations and statements about without questioning thier own beliefs and views first is actually cringeworthy.

To be fair, there's probably been loads but none can beat Lowe for disdain to the fans twinned with such incompetent football decisions & blinded arrogance. Link that with his divisive, self serving nature & total lack

of respect & humility to fellow man, then you can understand why he's such a hated figure!

I wouldn't go along with that. I'm no Rupert fan, but St Marys was built during his tenure. Credit where it is due. Now Guy Askham is another matter.

My vote would go to Peter Winkleman for overseeing Wimbledons' move to errrr,60 miles away!!

Whilst I really didn't want to post on this thread as I totally agree with Hopkins, I actually agree with you on this one too - shocking decission.

This is a totally pointless thread: Lowe is gone and we can all be thankful for it. But, since you have brought it up, what a f*cking selective memory you have!! Does SMS mean anything to you? A state of the art training complex? One of the most successful academies in English football? Some good years under Hoddle and Strachan, including out highest ever Prem finish and the FA Cup final? Because all of that came about under Lowe's chairmanship: if your memory is not functuioning, you could look it up.

I don't mean to defend Lowe: I'm glad he's gone too. But I really don't see why people have to forget the good because of the bad, and fail to give credit where credit is due, along with the blame where blame is due!

What is it with some people? We haven't had a good old slanging match for a couple of days. I know, I'll post a thread about Rupert Lowe. That'll get the juices flowing.

I believe the term for that is Trolling.

Pathetic, ain't it? And some people ask why I'm not serious when I post anymore. Glad there are others that feel the same about how some just can't refrain from dredging up the dregs from the bottom of the cesspit. Cesspit trollops, all of them.

agree...not on just this though....anyone who dares to have a differing view against the grain about the team is called all sorts of names under the sun...

this place (because of these reasons) is slowly dying..

What a bizarre post.

Askham didn't see us relegated and delivered us Lowe. If you are going to give Lowe credit for the stadium then surely some of that is reflected on Askham for having the foresight to see that he could deliver it.

thing for me why Lowe was so bad...

he stumbled on or for what ever reason appointed Strachan (who never reallys has a bad word to say about him) and was on a real good thing..

the club was really going places...we had a manager we all loved, we had some good players...but we had a team going all out week in week out and that could not last..

for what ever reason, WGS left (another arguement) and the rest is history....

Has slippery Askham, the Monty Burns of Southampton, been seen at SMS this season?

Of course he has, Mr Askham (along with Messrs Lowe, Richards etc) remains a big Southampton fan. So he will have joined the paying plebs, in fact I believe he's been sighted sipping Carlsbery in the Northam, and trying to have a sneaky cigarette at Half Time...

Oh FFS calm down , calm down. What is it with some people?? Haven't you heard of irony??? Is it necessary to put smiley faces on a thread to show people that you are not completely serious??

Like so many people on this board I am tired of the trolls - in particular 19 Canteen's continual denigration of the club's heroes. MLT last month, Lawrie today, it will probably be Ted Bates next week. I thought that this subject might be a suitable antidote to Nineteen Canteen's upteenth thread denigrating our heroes. I didn't appreciate how seriously it would be taken.

So calm down, calm down. I always thought it was Americans who couldn't understand irony. Perhaps it is also some of the readers on this board.

Sometimes it is difficult to spot a rose in a thorn-bush.

Maybe consider a topic less poisonous for your next foray into the realms of perversity.

Why on Earth do people keep going on and on about Mr Lowe ?? For goodness sake leave him

in the dark past and look forward to the bright future thanks to Mr Liebherr and Mr Cortese.

Fully agree. Saints have won 3 games in a week (when did that last happen!) and someone opens a thread on Lowe. He is gone (thank God) and this is a new and brighter day for Saints. It's time to look forward not backwards and there should be no more threads about Lowe.

Search up the fine work of signor Luciano Gaucci, formerly chairman of Perugia.

He sacked Ahn Jung-Hwan because he scored for South Korea against Italy, "biting the hand than feeds him" according to Gaucci.

He also gave Jay Bothroyd a dressing down for not diving, signed Colonel Gaddafi's son and also tried to sign two female swedish players (which may have had it's upside!)

Perugia eventually went bust.

Based on all the evidence available in the public domain today Lowe.

If I had to vote today, certainly as others say in the top 10 or higher.

If we look back at a snapshot of today from 10 years in the future. May find other candidates and may tweak the search to include owners.

Not defending Lowe, but history may show Gaychap, The Iceland bloke, The Liverpool duo and others being up there.

Hopefully though, this will be the last time anyone ever opens a thread on here knowing the bleedin obvious answer to a debate that has been done to death.

If your life is still worried about Lowe I suggest a call to the Samaritans

Just thought i would point out to those using St Mary's as his defence.

He got a loan for that. That loan crippled us.

Anyone can get a loan and put it against a club. If he raised that money in a way that meant we would not have £30m over our head to pay back then praise him.

Rupert Lowe didn't get St Mary's the fans did. We would of moved to a new home regardless of Rupert Lowe.

It did, but it is not an achievement.

Taking out a loan and then getting everyone but yourself to pay it back is not something to praise him for.

It is no different then a guy taking out a loan to build a house, then lose that house because he could not afford to pay the loan back. We almost lost that house.

ML practically paid the £30m off himself, if anyone deserves credit for St Mary's he does, seeing as he paid the loan back.

if it was that easy...why did it take us 20 years..?

if 'anyone' can rock up to natwest and take out a £30m loan..why didnt they..?

how many grounds circa 2000 were paid for out of someones pocket...?

not many at all...

lowe has many wrongs to be beaten for...but sorry, you look like an idiot for choosing sms to do so...

How do i looklike an idiot exactly?

Maybe you should think a bit more TDD before you jump in there head first like you do.

The reason we did not get a new stadium in 1981 was because we developed The Dell....Remember the east and west stand? The family enclosure?

It was not until the outlawing of terracing did we look at moving. 1-2 years after the Prem League started we developed the dell into full seating creating the two end stands. 3 Years later we were all set for Stoneham. How did that turn out? Almost 5 years after that we then moved to St Mary's.

So TDD after all that developing before 1996 what was the next natural step? We had the smallest stadium in the Premier League. It took Lowe 3-4 years before he even got to talking about St Mary's.

Whoever was chairman at that time would of got the club a new stadium.

i cant be arsed to go over the same old arguement..

we got SMS in lowes watch...therefore he must take some credit...sorry if you dont like that but it is true...

there are plently of things..PLENTY to utterly bash the man till next century but SMS is not one of them..

you will feel you have won this little tittle tattle but cant be bothered to go on about lowe and get into a drawn out debate about such a pr1ck

Lowe was our worst chairman but there are far worse overall. That Tisdale guy almost destroyed Leeds.

And i agree with St Marco. The natural evolution of the league and football after the Hillsborough disaster meant the club was going to get a new stadium eventually. If you look at the period between 1996 to 2003 a lot of new stadiums were built in that period. Many by clubs similar to Saints. Teams who had smaller sized stadiums that would not fit with the modern demand to watch games. Very few stadiums like The Dell are still around in the top flight of football.
