MK Dons - Build Up Thread

Blimey - still no build up thread to post on! Oh well, I'll do the duties again.

Really looking forward to this one - mainly to see if we can mix it with another in-form team and come away convincing winners. I'm feeling either 2-1 Saints or perhaps 2-2 (prediction league score is 2-1). Would love us to hammer the Dons 4 or 5 nil though.

COYS!

We gotta start becoming one of those teams in the lower leagues where winning becomes a habbit and very regular. We're on the brink of such a position now. A draw or loss today would be hugely disappointing (he said stating the obvious!)

Saints to win 2-1

Dons are a good side so...

Optimistic version

On the back of recent success, everything clicks and we destroy the Dons 3 - 0 wondering how we didn't score 8 or 9.

Realistic version

1 - 0 to Saints. We score early and then cling on in the second half by the skin of our teeth.

I will take either.

My "match-going buddy" has just told me he can't come so I have two tickets for todays match (Kingsland North) but just the one derriere to plant.

PM me if you are ticketless but wanna go.

If i get swamped I don't guarantee to reply to all PMs....

A bit wary about their pace - Trotman and Jaidi manhandling ain't going to get us very far. Looking forward to today - think its great footballing weather (provided it doesn't p iss down too much). Air in the lungs, box-to-box action hopefully guaranteed - none of this lethargic, stop-for-a-swill-of-lucozade-every-5mins malarkey.

Agree with what TDD said about winning our homes games, but don't forget that MK Dons are a team in form and confidence is high in their team.

I think it'll be a scrappy game, but we'll scrape it 2-1 in the end. We really need to watch Jermaine Easter though, because he's bloody quick, and could worry Jaidi and Trotters at the back.

It seems that where we should gain encouragement is Ince saying that MK Dons need to start scoring through other team members and not just Jermaine Easter. It therefore makes it easy for us tactically to attempt to keep him quiet, as we can clearly identify their main scoring threat. I suspect that our current formation with Wotton acting as a sweeper in front of the back four might with luck snuff out that threat.

On the other hand, IMO Ince has a bit of a headache with us not having any problem with scorers throughout the team. He might assign somebody to try and tie up Lambert, only for Lallana, Papa or Harding to score from open play, or one of our big defenders to score from a set-piece. And if Connolly is playing too at some stage, it could be that we have too much firepower for them. MK Dons haven't let in many goals recently, but what would they do if they let in a couple early on?

It will probably be a dour, tight game with little between us, but it is possible that we could run amok, as MK Dons have not been playing the in-form top teams so far and we are becoming one of those teams ourselves.

This being Saints, I don't rule out the possibility of the wheels falling off and them hammering us. But with each passing week, the confidence grows that we are less likely to do that.

Need to get a good start. I don't want to be chasing this one.

If we win today then I will truly believe that we have turned the corner. We have had an excellent mini run but, so far, that's all it is and we are still in the relegation zone. Let's not get carried away with ourselves.

I believe we have an excellent squad for this league but, ultimatley, the 10 points and a bad start will mean mid table is the best we are likely to do.

I think AP might actually go with the 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation again as a precaution. As much as I want to see Connolly up front with Lambert, I still think he will come off the bench.

(PS: Connolly is scoring great for me on FIFA08 in CCC at the moment alongside Lopez - about to be promoted as champs).

Here at West End, there is a breeze and a little drizzle. Not too much to concern us about the match being postponed IMO. It looks as if it could have stopped and brightened up in the next four hours if anything.

Was 32C here yesterday, gentle onshore breeze, great day to go out on a 36ft Catamaran for a chill out day...

(But you didn't really want to know that with the clocks going back & all  :p)

Not yet got over the "It's Saints so something will go wrong" mindset yet.

Everything points to a good game, pretty much settled side on a run and with confidence and a good crowd, so should be expecting to win this one.

Hope we do and I can move into arrogantly confident mode for next week!

Worried about an all "over them and stupid late goal" game resulting in a loss or a draw.

I shouldn't, but I still do, takes a while to get 6 years of stereotyping out the system
