Murty back in training

Very difficult call regarding Murty - I like him at RB, but we've been winning while James has been in place and it might take Murty some time to get back to match fitness again given his age. I think on balance its a case of don't change a winning team until its absolutely necessary. Also, its good that there is a little competition for places.

Although I agree that central midfield is perhaps Lloyd James's best position, and that Murty is a better right back than James I wouldn't change anything. We've had a lot of success with a right wing (be it Papa or Antonio) going past defnders and then cutting the ball back to the oncoming rightback to deliver the cross. James isn't the quickest but he's faster than Murty and the tactic just wouldn't work with him.

Changing James for Murty and Wotton for James isn't therefore just a position switch but a tactical one as well. And I don't think we should be changing that.

The competition for places is really good, something we've been missing for a while. If we can keep all the key players fit we should be in no doubt that from here on in we will be a major force to be reckoned with. I think our squad has more strength in depth than Man Utd's currently ;)

TBH (if we keep playing the same formation we have been) i'd be inclined to stick Murts at RB and push james into midfield, in the place of wotton.

Seems like the only sensible solution, taking into account that AP will not drop him. I always wanted to see how he could cope with being the defensive CM. However, the consequence of that is to maintain the 4-5-1/4-3-3 system, unless he is to drop Schneiderlin or Hammond as well. Or he would have to drop Connolly!

In view of all the upheaval it would cause it looks to me that Murty will have to look forward to a long time on the bench. Getting injured, I'm afraid, didn't do his career a bit of good.

Of course we all know the old adage " never change a winning side "... but

Murty has SO much experience-it's difficult to think of NOT using him when fit.

However, good winning form is one thing. Injuries cannot be forseen-but can be planned for.

IF..(heaven forbid,) we have serious injury problems in the back line (or Trotman doesn't stay after January).. then I for one would be overjoyed to see him back in a start line-up.
