S-Clarke Posted 10 November, 2009 Share Posted 10 November, 2009 I think he will struggle to get his place back. TBH (if we keep playing the same formation we have been) i'd be inclined to stick Murts at RB and push james into midfield, in the place of wotton. SamKimish Posted 10 November, 2009 Share Posted 10 November, 2009 Fantastic news! But who would take corners instead of Lloyd James? I vote Adam Lallana. NOTE: I'm being sarcastic, I never want Lallana near a corner flag again... EVER.

Saint_clark Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 First rule overrules second. Indeed. Although I still maintain that Murty at RB and James in Wottons position is our best side.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 First rule overrules second. .......but not in this case . If you stand still eventually someone will overtake you . Teams must strive to constantly improve because you can rest assured the competition will be . Murty is the best Right Back we have and should return when fit I'd say . Dalek2003 Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 If the team is winning, why rush Murty back, give him time to get back to match fitness by bringing him on as a substitute, if we are winning comfortably.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Very difficult call regarding Murty - I like him at RB, but we've been winning while James has been in place and it might take Murty some time to get back to match fitness again given his age. I think on balance its a case of don't change a winning team until its absolutely necessary. Also, its good that there is a little competition for places. Wes Tender Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Fantastic news! But who would take corners instead of Lloyd James? Murty takes a far better corner than James and is also a better crosser of the ball from deep. I'd love to see Murty at RB and James doing the Wotton role as a sweeper in front of the back four. Toomer Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Place on the bench when he is 100% fit great option to have when we need to shore it up at the back to see out a game.
doggface Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 is james tackling strong enough to sit infront of the back 4?
SaintDonkey Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 Although I agree that central midfield is perhaps Lloyd James's best position, and that Murty is a better right back than James I wouldn't change anything. We've had a lot of success with a right wing (be it Papa or Antonio) going past defnders and then cutting the ball back to the oncoming rightback to deliver the cross. James isn't the quickest but he's faster than Murty and the tactic just wouldn't work with him. Changing James for Murty and Wotton for James isn't therefore just a position switch but a tactical one as well. And I don't think we should be changing that. opthomps Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 The competition for places is really good, something we've been missing for a while. If we can keep all the key players fit we should be in no doubt that from here on in we will be a major force to be reckoned with. I think our squad has more strength in depth than Man Utd's currently

Clifford Nelson Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 TBH (if we keep playing the same formation we have been) i'd be inclined to stick Murts at RB and push james into midfield, in the place of wotton. Seems like the only sensible solution, taking into account that AP will not drop him. I always wanted to see how he could cope with being the defensive CM. However, the consequence of that is to maintain the 4-5-1/4-3-3 system, unless he is to drop Schneiderlin or Hammond as well. Or he would have to drop Connolly! In view of all the upheaval it would cause it looks to me that Murty will have to look forward to a long time on the bench. Getting injured, I'm afraid, didn't do his career a bit of good. hutch Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 is james tackling strong enough to sit infront of the back 4? It ought to be. He is, after all, one of our full backs at the moment.

david in sweden Posted 11 November, 2009 Share Posted 11 November, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1872421,00.html Of course we all know the old adage " never change a winning side "... but Murty has SO much experience-it's difficult to think of NOT using him when fit. However, good winning form is one thing. Injuries cannot be forseen-but can be planned for. IF..(heaven forbid,) we have serious injury problems in the back line (or Trotman doesn't stay after January).. then I for one would be overjoyed to see him back in a start line-up.
