dronskisaint Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 I had a frustrating evening on a 2 hour conference call (US time!) so had to 'watch' the first half on the Saints Player text updates...difficult to shout when Lallana's goal went in. The second half I listened to on Saints Player's Radio Solent link (still lots of cutting out) but I just wanted to pay tribute to the travelling support - from what I heard on the radio it was fantastic! Work got in the way of my intention to travel up but it felt like I was there - great to hear!

MorningtonCrescent Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 The away end holds around 900 in total and there wasn't much room for more! Great vocal support for 90% of the game. Very suprised how quiet the home fans were, even after their goal! Did they actually get a single song going?? Some really good chants too and some of the usual 'away' songs! :-)
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 The Rink End stand has 967 seats and looked packed as i had to go to near the far corner to stand at the back so definately more than 635.

RedAndWhite91 Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 Just woken up after getting home at 4am Next time I'm flying up... I must admit our support was absolutely terrific, on a wet and windy Tuesday night in Hartlepool we made loads of noise for 99% of the game and top effort to all of us that went up there. I'm still buzzing from it, it was a top away day. Thedelldays you will be pleased to know we sung more than 4 songs, and the Lambert song sounded really good, so different to when it's sung at home, in a good way. It doesn't matter how many we took up there because we could have been at home with the level of noise we were making. Hartlepool fans made more noise than us on one occasion, and that's when they scored, but even then we immediately started singing again.

Adam Lallana duh duh duh duh doo (Don't know the tune?) We started the Lallana one, it's some Dexy's Midnight Runners song I think... might be from "Jackie Wilson Said", not that that's going to help 90% of people ! Just for Delldays, some muppets started "we're the middle over here" at one point. We also started a brief chorus of "we've come a fcking long way" 6 minutes into injury time. PS Got back at 3:20am, absolutely torrential rain for at least half of the 5½ hour drive back. Edited 25 November, 2009 by The9

yorkie Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 It was a top day out. For me it was only 73 miles tonight - unlike the drive home after the Charlton JPT game arriving home at 2.45am. The day was made even better by spending time at Sedgefield races with bungle, stockportsaint, andynorthernsaint, S & Michelle. HAd some luck on the gee-gees (well not me I could back a winner in a one horse race!). Got to Hartlepool just as it got dark. Ended up at Johnson's Quay for some half decent pub grub in a 2 for 1 bonanza! Strange to see Rigwood Best on tap so far north! Then went across to The Causeway picking up Granty from the station on the way. The Strongarm in their looked more like a Mr Whippy than beer - they do like their heads up north but this was rediculous - it looked like a hairstyle out of X-factor! Then to the match itself - someone has already commemnted the chips on sale looked top notch! Not much of the "we're the left side" etc but plenty of the old favourites... "I've got a shed" "Woolston Ferry Song" "No.1 is Perry Groves" "Goal machine" as it should be sung "Paul Wotton football genius" "Super Kelv" after that save from the corner - breath taking. The header was so clean I could only see it bursting the net! "1-0 and you still don't sing" "Shall we sing a song for you?" shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! "OWTSGMI" Lots of good humour and banter with the stewards - and not told once to sit down! Got it was windy though...it's not many times you see a keeper kick the ball up over the half way line - only to see it run out of puff and start coming back to him! We played a lot better in the second half into the wind - I think even Hartlepool struggled with the wind in the second half. Bit annoyed with the "Disco" when only 2-1 up...but it all added to the party atmosphere. People of Hartlepool were friendly enough. I think they were truly taken aback by our turnout and noise. Not sure if anyone heard us at the other end - the wind would have taken all our noise to Seaton Carew before they could hear it! I look back fondly on clubs in the Premier League who ridiculed our away following - the Uniteds of this world who have plastics from all over. We met Saints fans from all over last night - a gent from Carlisle for example in one of the many MacDonalds in the vacinity after the game. We may only take a few hundred - possibly a couple of thousand tops - but while we fall short in number we make up for with heart. A truly good evening with a lot of good support. The Rickie Lambert song sung at a sensible speed sounds terrific when it is done properly. It seems a shame to pick one player out like that - but he is the catalyst. It would be nice to have something original for Hammond - a truly unsung hero last night. He got stuck in and they didn't like it. He is an inspiration to our midfield and defence. Dean Hammond Dean Hammond Who needs Gutusso We've got Hammond! The next episode on Saints on Tour - The Awaydays 2009 - Wallsall. Let's just get out of the relegation zone before we start talking about the play-offs - but the really big test will be at Leeds. I hope they don't ruin my Christmas with another last minute goal...perhaps we'll break their hearts with one of our own! Being a Saints fan is something to savour at the moment...I am no longer the laughing stock up here!

stockportsaint Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 Which comes from Dexy's midnight runners - Jackie Wilson said. The tune for the Adam Lallana song is from the intro to "Jackie Wilson says", originally by Van Morrison in the early 70s, covered by Dexy's Midnight Runners in the mid-80s. Good example of the intro can be found here:

JRM Posted 26 November, 2009 Share Posted 26 November, 2009 There were a fair few spare seats dotted around, but excellent support, Hartlepool's crowd looked completely disinterested. If that end holds 950 there is no way there was 300 empty seats, 1/3rd of the stand, every block was used, and despite a fair few seats being empty I reckon is was 750 minimum, if not closer to 850. The 635 might not include those that paid on the day.
