the saint in winchester Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 A few comments on here previously that we shouldn't trust Bart and should have gone out for a loan keeper. Unwarranted, in my view. It's time Bart was given a run in the side, and Kel's absence gives Bart the chance to show he's up to it. I like his attitude (below) and I appreciated him coming over to fans and spending time with us. He will answer any questions he can, and those he can't he politely bats away with "I don't think I'm the one to answer that." All in all, although I'm sorry to lose KD to injury, I do feel we have a capable deputy who deserves his chance. So let's get behind him, give him the confidence he deserves, and take a pride in him. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1888115,00.html "I am looking forward to it," he smiled. "Apart from Charlton a couple of weeks ago it's a long time since I played for Southampton, because that was not the same. This is a big chance for me to show what I can do. "I will just do my best and prepare in the right way, I want to play well and save every shot because that's my job. "It's been frustrating for me because I train so hard in every single session so that I can play in first team games. It's been so long I'm just happy to play football again." It is almost four years since Bialkowski was forced off the pitch with cruciate ligament damage at St. James' Park in an F.A Cup fifth round tie against Newcastle United. Since that time, the recovery and form of other goalkeepers have limited the 22 year-old's number of games at St. Mary's, but the 'keeper bears no grudges and is just out to make up for lost time. "I played in the F.A Cup against Newcastle and that was a great experience for me. I really enjoyed that, but more importantly it's now time to show the gaffer what I can do. That's gone now I don't think about it, it was a bad moment for me as I was only 18 and playing well, but it happens in football, you get injuries and you just have to concentrate on games. "It's been a long time now since that game, the knee is fine and I am fully fit, so I am ready to play. "I'm really happy in Southampton," he continued. "I've enjoyed my time here and I just want to play games. A lot has changed from when I first arrived, we are now in League One, but we have a great chairman with ambitions to put us back into the Premier League which is where I think this club really deserves to be. "We have improved in nearly every aspect. The gaffer is spot on, he's a very good guy who manages well and I think everyone has improved including me in his short time here." The youngster also revealed that the form of the man he is replacing between the posts has made it difficult for him to dislodge the club captain as the team's number one, but is aiming to give the manager a headache between now and the time Davis returns. "Kelvin is probably the best goalkeeper in the league and possibly the Championship as well so it's very hard for me to get past him and play some games. Now that I have my opportunity though, I aim to show the gaffer that I can play at this level regularly. "Kelvin and I are good friends. He's a really top guy and he has helped me a lot in the past few years. "It is up to the gaffer to decide when we're both fit who the number one is, but I will do my best to make my mark in goal for Southampton. "That's why I train so hard in every session, and I'm happiest when I play football so I'm looking forward to it."
OldNick Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 I lost faith in him and thought he was overrated, and argued against him taking KD's placee whne the chips were down. I hope he takes his chance as that would mean we all are winnes. Good luck Bart

dronskisaint Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 Getting behind him shouldn't even need to be said - he's obviously got a lot of talent but like any young player his form while developing is going to have peaks & troughs - particularly given the nature of his injury. Nothing would make me happier than him giving Pards a real selection headache when KD is fit again...get in there Bart - make it your own!

Thought at the time how impressive he looked for an 18 year old. At 22 he is still young and has bags of potential - now is the time for Bart to show just how good a keeper he is! I would love to be in January saying "We cant drop Bart, he is doing a great job between the posts". This would mean that the team was winning and Bart was having a great time between the Posts. Whatever is good for Bart can only be good for Southampton!!!!

dubai_phil Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 Bart is 22, he has more than 16 years ahead of him in his career as a keeper. That is a LOT of learning still to do. He will not be perfect every week, he will not be Banks/Shilton/Seaman from the moment he goes on the pitch. But I have no doubt that he will do a good job for us, is far better than anyone else who is currently available to clubs at our level, his inclusion is a strong message that the new management trusts the younger players to step up when the club needs them, which will have a knock-on effect on the morale of the club. Shoouldn't have to go out of our way to get behind him, he's our number 1 now and it will be up to KD to get fit and then get his place back. As others have said, let's hope KD has a real fight on his hands as it means we'll be doing well
Block 5 Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 I saw Bart at the sponsors training session and he was excellent. VectisSaint Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 I don't have any concerns about Bart. If ever there was a good time for him to come in it is now. Already played about 30 mins against Hartlepool, next up Northampton which he possibly may have played in anyway, then 3 games against (lets be generous) mediocre L1 opposition followed by JPT which he would definitely have played anyway. 5 games to bed in, get completely confident and work together with our defence before the big test against Leeds. KD is a great shot-stopper, no doubts about that, as good as anyone. But that is not the whole story for a keeper these days. KD is not great at crosses/corners, does not command his area in a completely confident way, and his distribution is at best average (nearly always an aimless punt upfield to give opposition 50/50 chance of winning it). If Bart can perform better than KD in any one of these 3 areas, then the number of shots he has to save should be slightly less than KD, and as long as Bart is a decent stopper then he will be fine, indeed we may well find that he will be difficult for KD to shift. Then again he could also turn into a bag of nerves and be absolute ****

Clifford Nelson Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 Bart deserves our full support. Anybody thinking anything else must be mad. We shouldn't be quick to cut off the support for players the way it happens for some. One who deserves our support is Papa Waigo who reasonably must be getting a start soon. For talent he is head and shoulders over Antonio, who is playing a one dimensional game which was easily found out. I wish that Waigo can get the fans behind him again, because he has got genuine quality.
DT Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 I like Bart and have changed my predictions to clean sheets as a result of KD's time on the sidelines. Cue 3-0 loss tomorrow...(my bet is 3-0 to us)

Under Weststand Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 I have no worries about Bart, he had a good game against Charlton & showed no real nerves. His distribution was excellent helping set up the 2nd goal, & also another good chance for Antonio. He went through a very dodgy period when he came back into the first team after his injury. But we also have to remember that KD was not at his best & made several bad mistakes while playing behind what was a shockingly awful defence during that period. I for one hope he makes the No:-1 spot his own & we have 2 top class keepers fighting for that position. It would be good for us & the club. Arizona Posted 27 November, 2009 Share Posted 27 November, 2009 I think an easier song would just be Saganowski-style "Do do do do Bialkowski" Since we all sing Davis' song whenever he lines up infront of us at away matches, I think we should afford Bart the same courtesy. Your point is well made, as as we saw last season ANY keeper is only as good as the defence in front of him. Bart will learn, and now is his chance to show his best. As you mentioned Shilton, in his first 7 games( 1982-83) we lost 1-4, 0-5 and 0-6 and no thanks to the " defenders " who left him unprotected when visiting grounds White Hart Lane and Anfield !!. As we well know , Shilton stayed for 6 seasons and holds the record for the most clean sheets in a season - and that was in the Prem. days. I really hope that Bart does well. We need another dependable keeper, and taking nothing away from Kelvin who could be warming a fat wallet seated on the West Ham bench every week - if he had chosen to do so. CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 I'm sure we all wish the best of British/Polish luck to Bart but he does seem to suffer from a rather fragile belief in his own ability - he'll have to find the cure for that if he wants to make a successful career in professional football . doggface Posted 28 November, 2009 Share Posted 28 November, 2009 I remember when bart came in at 18yo and he looked like a monster for his age and his performances were exceptional at times if I remember right - he was even talking up a move to a "bigger" club. Since the knee and with the exception of the Charlton game he has looked a different player but not in a good sense! Let's hope the revival starts today for bart and that he has found a bit more maturity and can re discover the real promise he showed early on.
