Bridge Posted 30 January, 2010 Share Posted 30 January, 2010 I was sitting in block 10 today and some bloke in his late fifties was just shouting abuse throughout the whole game. Oy Pardew this is sh#t, how much are you lot on and so on and so on.......... He was pi##ing and lot of others off around. Not one word came out of his mouth was positive in anyway. Ok it wasn’t the greatest game to watch and there have been a few new players that still need to jell and our midfield is missing Hammond. I think this sort of idiot at the ground is short sited doesn’t understand football and clearing cannot see what AP is trying to do. It’s enough to put you off going when there are kn#bs like this at the game.

Valesaint Posted 30 January, 2010 Share Posted 30 January, 2010 I can well understand the frustration of some. Our expectations are too high. The play offs are now unreachable by some inept displays of late. I can keep my anger and frustration bottled up but others cannot.

s0108787 Posted 30 January, 2010 Share Posted 30 January, 2010 it was a sub par performance, the team seems to be struggling with the pressure of needing 13 wins to be in with a chance of the playoffs. However in the 2nd half we were much improved when waigo came on and offered some more movement and pace. Mills who had a very poor 1st half seemd to relax more and improved too. I have to say wotton was the weakest link in midfield and looked confused with the ball at his feet, he lacks mobility and i would have like to see Gillett given a run out today. But as people have said, we will perform much better with Hammond back. Lee Holmes played quite well as did Antonio. Fonte looks class at the back and Seaborne looks solid enough and a definite improvement on lancashire.

Glasgow_Saint Posted 30 January, 2010 Share Posted 30 January, 2010 - Millions spent - Top player signed - 16 signings since the summer - Big crowds home/away - Playing sides that cost under 100k (11 + subs) all looks good, then.............. 11 wins (some very unconvincing) in 27 games. People will start to get frustrated. Imagine the expectation next season - no more excuses = Huge pressure.

These people are always slightly too far away for you to tap on the shoulder and ask if they can just keep the output down for a while, or they are so bloody p!ssed off, it's not worth the effort for the adverse reaction you're likely to get. Happily, they don't occur that often, and in any case, Saints usually play well enough nowadays to shut them up. Obviously, not today though. It also makes me laugh that someone can shout at an individual from 50 yards or so away, and expect their words to be clearly heard above the general hubbub. Even when we had a corner he was berating him for being out of his area... To show his level of intelect he claimed we "should have taken WHU's offer of £3million for him in the summer(!)" and screamed at a the lino for not giving offisde on one of their players from a throw-in... dubai_phil Posted 30 January, 2010 Share Posted 30 January, 2010 It has ever been this way with Saints in all the years I have been. Have commented about it many a time in many threads. At the end of the day as a mate once said. the world is full of people who either get it or it gets them. Some people were just born to be stupidly optimistic about everything and some the reverse. Next time you get annoyed by someone like that just smile to yourself and imagine how awful their life must be if their entertainment time has to be spent so negatively. Sure life isn't always fair or nice or right, but it's a bloody shame to spend it where your only kick out of it is ranting negativity all afternoon. What a waste

While others will see us in L1, see us spending millions, look at the squad and think "we can do this". Its this camp that will get frustrated 1st. There will be a bigger majority in the middle, that will say. Right, things havent been great - pleased things are better. Yes we have spent millions and yes we should be doing better, but I can live with it for 'now' This camp will join the middle camp next season if things dont go to plan. Watch this space. s0108787 Posted 30 January, 2010 Share Posted 30 January, 2010 Also aside from the Northam and the Kingsland corner next to it the place was like a morgue. I know the debate will rage long and hard about the need to actively encourage the team and make some noise, but i am astounded by the people who sit in silence like they're at a funeral. Part of the reason the players were looking edgy has to be becuase of the tension and atmosphere generated by a lack of active encouragement from all corners of the ground. We CAN do our bit to help the players by being more vocal in our encouragement. And the people who booed at half time need to think long and hard about how counter-productive that is, frustrating though the team can be they are only human. I was working yesterday, with Talksport's Hawkesby & Jacobs on, in the background. It appears someone has done a survey of sports fans, and how their expectations and reactions affect their enjoyment of their chosen sport. Apparently, it appears clearly that some football fans enjoy it more when other rival teams lose, than when their own team wins. Also, some fans are almost totally negative, and barely achieve any enjoyment of the sport they attach themselves to, yet are completely captured by the whole thing. It made me feel very satisfied with being average.

Genk Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 Fair enough people get frustrated when the team isn't playing great but there is no need to constantly shout abuse is there. Greedyfly Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 I'm not sure which irritates me most, 'their selves' who rightly express an opinion or those nicey nicey golden halo supporters who make up these threads. No, wait I do know which one irritates me more. Look people pay good money to watch football. We do at least expect a level of effort from those who's wages we pay. Without vocal frustration there would be periods of silence if we all took this 'if you haven't got anything nice to say' approach. If a game/player/manager is performing below expectation then criticism is to be expected. It's the same in all walks of life and quite frankly if you can't handle it then you really need to book yourself into a mental health unit early. I do appreciate that some go overboard, and sometimes they need to be told to STFU too but honestly I think it's more tedious those who whinge about it for days after. I can assure you they'll be the individuals with the consistantly higher blood pressures, not the guy that get's it off his chest.

spyinthesky Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 Happens all the time. Used to sit in the old East Stand at the Dell where we had a bloke (in late/away early) who used to slag Channon off every game. Also remember others who 'chastised' Alan Ball. Further back Jimmy Melia and Lew Chatterley used to get a load of stick We all suffer from frustrations on the pitch but not good to verbally articulate this on a regular basis.
