Ok, with all the hoo-hah over season ticket installment schemes, people being banned and whether or not we're signing Skacel, I thought it's jolly well about time to lighten the subject matter somewhat...

I notice that whilst the likes of the Flybe logo have been removed from the 'official partners' banner at the foot of the saintsfc.co.uk website, Carlsberg are still listed as 'Official Beer Supplier'.

Didn't I read on here a while back that Cortese was going to terminate (or not renew) the beer supply contract this summer?

Does this mean there has been no change on the beer front afterall or just the OS behind the times?

Obviously feel free to turn this into a Cortese bashing thread at your leisure (but only after post #5 please)

Here you go:

My wife and i were given a tour of St Marys today as part of a present and although i had been around the stadium before,i was surprised by how many things are changing.

The home team changing rooms have been totally up graded with leather seats and above each shirt, there is a personal safe(BWPs beware).

They are taking out all of the seats that spell Flybe and seem to be putting some white seats around the stadium making a striped effect.

Was told that the beers not changing for another year because of a contract issue, but the food will be different.

There were also a lot of painters around spurcing the place up.

Not a lot to report, but at least its not a moan!

hmm, doesnt travel well though does it? now, if they got a supply from Ringwood.....

The pride tastes alright in the Avenue but I suppose that is a little nearer to Chiswick

Decent London Pride at the Behive White Waltham Dog and Partridge Sunninghill Prince Blucher Twickenham Green

I was impressed with the range of beers at Barnet last night - pretty standard stuff on tap but a choice of Spitfire, London Pride, Old Speckled Hen and something else in bottles. Admittedly it was effectively the directors bar but it was a very pleasant change to your standard football fare.

Please get some Speckled Hen in, then we can just forget about the football, I predict about 5 mins after half time

There is a flaw to this plan.....I sometimes have to drive home afterwards. With the current beer supplier I could drink for the whole match and still be under the limit when I drive home.............(not that I do of course).

It would be nice if they could still serve after the final whistle, guess all the fans leaving would cause an issue

If you like drinking in a concourse, break into a disused warehouse after the match and have a few tins there.

Any similarity between Carlsberg and Beer is purely coincidental.

Thinking back to The Dell and the big Watneys Red Barrel advert on top of the West Stand shows football clubs and beer aren't a happy partnership!!

I'm sure John McGrath used to aim for that with his clearances

Marston's would be a good option as they have created Fastcask - which means that real ale can be delivered bright and stable so that it can go to events and be ready to serve in decent nick. The aim is that outlets that traditionally haven't been able to serve and store real ale can. NC has to honour the Carlsberg contract for this year but Marston's in my edition of What's Brewing (CAMRA newspaper) suggested that they might offer the technology to other brewers, probably micros rather than Fuller's or Greene King, on licence so by 2011, it could be a real option.

Any ale would suffice compared to lager and gassy beers for me. Please no Honey, Christmas Special or Chocolatey ones though Nicola. Can I suggest a Saints Real Ale Festival with the top ale's getting the prize of a contract , hold it next summer on the concourse and get some local bands in.

I wish we were allowed to have the German "Ghostbusters" as I remember them so well from my time over there....the chaps with the beer backpacks dishing out beer and bratwurst AT YOUR SEAT!

Sadly we are all too immature for that and need to be herded up and told to drink our mass-produced fizzy beer-water downstairs where Mummy and Daddy can see us.

Lol on us eh?

I've watched a ffair bit of football in Germany and never seen beer or food brought to normal supporter's seats, wouldn't want that in the English game either.

Having said that the Germans are very good at making it easy to buy a wide range of food and drink at their games and while I'd never expect a wide choice of beers at St Marys there must be scope for a bit of a wider/better quality choice?

Fair dos - well I saw them both at the Olympiastadion for a Hertha Berlin game and also at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion for Kaiserslautern. Maybe I was just lucky, they were just normal cheap seats albeit not in the standing zones (which is another argument as well!)

Anyway the other point was that you could have a beer in your seat if you wanted to (and even if you had to go and get it yourself!).

Agree with your second point; the matchday experience over there is different in some respects but I'd agree the range of food on offer is fairly good (or at least it was when I was there). It'd be great to see a wider range at St. Mary's but I won't lose too much sleep over it I suppose...

The Flowerpots should be offered first refusal for any contract going, local beer, local pub, local jobs. Most importantly a great range of ales, wirh some right crackers in there too, something for everyone and as independant as you'll get in Hampshire. Them an The Itchen valley Brewery of course.

You'll be lucky. We'll probably go from the toilet water Carlsberg and Tetley to the equally unpalatable Fosters and John Smiths!
